Usually when I travel to Workington, I stay at the Hundith Hill in Cockermouth. This time, I decided to stay local and went to the Green Dragon (review to follow).
I decided to walk around town and then sit for dinner when I bumped into this restaurant called Paprika. It was quite quiet, maybe because it was a Monday evening. It is a Bangladeshi restaurant with all the usual suspects listed on the menu alongwith Kingfisher and Cobra on the tap.
I had a seekh kebab to start with, 2 garlic naans and a chicken rezala. The kebab was a disappointment. Normally I don't talk about the price but for ca.£3.75 I was hoping for two regular size seekhs, but they took one seekh, cut it into half and brought it. That's wrong on so many different levels.
Then came the mains. The rezala was flavoursome, but it had a generous helping of chillies, which seemed to kill the other spices and flavours. Still, not bad for a Bangladeshi restaurant in a town not exactly famous for is culinary diversity. The naans were fluffy and well made.
The service was good. It was not exceptional, it was not horrible, either.
If I am here in Workington again and if I feel like a curry, I might pop into this place again. read more
