Although he had some discomfort after the first three, it was of short duration. Unfortunately, when it was time for another lithotripsy, the fourth one, the urologist he had been seeing for many years, Dr. McHugh, had retired and a new doctor, Dr. Elena Gimenez, performed the procedure. This was done in November of 2013 and resulted in two large hematomas, one in his right testicle and one in his groin. His penis and testicles turned black, which alarmed us since this had not happened with his past lithotripsies. When he called the after-hour doctor (since this was on a Sunday night) it turned out Dr. Gimenez was the doctor on call. She told him, and I quote, "I might have killed your nut." Besides being very unprofessional, this alarmed my husband. She told him not to go into the emergency room, but to wait until the next morning and have an ultrasound and to come in to see her, which he did. She was very defensive and said it was not her fault and must have been caused by a small hernia he had. He has had this hernia for many years and it never gave him any problems. She referred him to a hernia surgeon. When he was examined by the hernia surgeon, she said the hernia had nothing to do with his condition and that it was definitely caused by the lithotripsy. Another doctor also examined him and concurred. The hernia surgeon also told him that, when Dr. Gimenez called to say my husband would be coming in to be examined, Dr. Gimenez told the hernia doctor that she was afraid she had really screwed up. We were surprised that the hernia doctor was so open with him. My husband still has the hematoma in his groin, which is pressing on his right kidney, which contains a large stone that never gave him pain in the past. It is also pressing on his intestines. Now he is suffering to the extent that he had to retire early from his job. When he went back to see another urologist, he was told it could take until this November, a year since the procedure, for the hematoma to go away. It is smaller, but not gone yet and he is still in pain. We just want to prevent others from going through the same thing. Do not go to Dr. Gimenez!
