The food here was better when they first opened. We've been several times and our experiences vary widely. Sometimes the food is on point. Although owned by the same person, the two Mexican restaurants in this town offer slightly different fare. Papi's is more upscale than the standard Mexican restaurant. For instance, the Ahi Tuna tacos, when made well, are a delicious diversion from anything you can order at the other restaurant. However, sometimes they are overcooked and dry. If dining in, try the bacon wrapped jalapeños, but if the cream cheese feels grainy, don't feel obligated to eat them--send them back. I suspect they pre-make and freeze them. The salsa verde is good, but tomato salsa is pretty pedestrian. It's awesome to have another spot in the Pearl District for quick counter-service Mexican food. My go-to order is the shrimp burrito with black beans. It's a good-sized meal and I like that they use rather large shrimp. They seem perfectly cooked and have a great texture to them. Writing this out makes me want one, now. It's a $10 burrito, which is reasonable for the size, quality, and their commitment to taking care of their employees. I'm also a big fan of their nachos, though I haven't ordered those since dine-in services have closed. I personally don't think nachos travel well, but if you feel less strongly about that, I encourage you to give them a try. When I do get them, I get them with cochinta (pork). Came here with friends before the Room and Board Yelp elite white party. It wasn't too busy at the time. My boyfriend ordered a chicken and shrimp taco, then my friend ordered 4 tacos. We both got our numbers and sat down. About 5 minutes in I decided I also wanted tacos so I went and ordered a shrimp and fish. My boyfriend and I got our 2 tacos each after about 10 minutes. Pictured is what I got. Not only do they have false advertisement, notice there is absolutely no Mexican slaw like stated on the menu, they ALSO got my order wrong. The worker dropped it off and said "one shrimp and one fish taco." I thought I was going crazy and had my boyfriend try it because I swore it wasn't shrimp. We both tried to distinguish the two to find out which one was fish and which one was shrimp, and concluded that they messed up the order. No big deal though I told myself. However, 20 minutes later, my boyfriend and I have finished our tacos, and my friend STILL hasn't gotten her order even though I ordered AFTER her. We waited around 40 minutes total until the worker came up to ME, not my friend, and told me they're out of one of the meats. I felt like they could've navigated that situation much sooner. I told her she got the wrong person and to talk to my friend. We waited and waited, and still no food. Then we decided it wasn't worth it because the tacos were nothing but unflavored meat drenched in sauce on a tortilla. The fish was overly drenched with sauce and my boyfriend said his chicken had little to no flavor. At least my friend got a refund though.
