They're rarely out of stock in the tipple department, and I have only been disappointed once when searching for an unusual Irish Whiskey at short notice. It's a nice wee olde worldy type shop, where the assistants and booze are safely barricaded behind a full sized wooden front with serving windows, obviously they know that the Motherwell clientèle can be a little over excited at the sight of such an array of bevvie. The assistants are usually wee older ladies who are lovely, or an older man who I would guess runs the place. They have to put up with a lot from what I have seen, teenagers usually target this place for some underage WKD purchasing, but they aren't slow in telling them where to go. I wouldn't mess! They also sell wine, beers and juices, as well as a few groceries and tins of essentials. They make some pretty amazing soup and sandwiches for a cheap price, and they sell the biggest chocolate fudge muffins I have ever seen. They are out of this world! It took me three days to eat one once, and I'm not shy when it comes to cake. Yum. Great wee newsagents-deli-off licence right across from the bus stops and train station.

It's a bit of a smack in the face walking in here. The music is REALLY loud (alright, alright old man) and the walls are stocked to the ceiling with glass fronted shelves full of cigars on the left and smoking paraphernalia on the right (yes that means pipes and bongs). The cigar collection was pretty extensive, as was their pipe arsenal. It did seem a little expensive, not to mention a little intimidating. Probably not somewhere you'd take your mum.

I remember the days when you could go into any corner shop on the street and they would have loads of plastic tubs of different penny sweeties, just ready to be popped into a little bag in exchange for a shiny ten pence piece. My boyfriend commutes to Uddingston everyday for work, and he kept this place a secret until we went the other day. The mix ups were sitting on a tub on the counter, and I picked a 50p one. It was a proper mix up, in a stripy paper poke, and made up of one and two penny sweeties. There were mini jelly babies, foamy strawberries and rhubarb and custard straws. Amazing! As for the rest, I have no idea. My eyes were on one thing, and one thing only! The return of the Mix Up! I'll certainly be back!

Not unlike Gerry's in Leeds/Soho or Astor Wines in NYC, this shop offers enough variety and substance to satisfy most any liquor lover. Beyond a product selection that could leave me browsing the shelves for hours, the staff is knowledgeable (and trying to become even more so!), welcoming, and the space is noteworthy in its own right. Ask about the cashier's counter sometime - it's a piece to be pondered and appreciated. I'm excited about the forthcoming tasting room to come, and hope that local Glaswegians come to admire and adore this liquid gold outlet for the treasure it already is.

The shop can only be describes as a treasure trove for all things Whisky, Cigar and tobacco. Not being smokers I can't really talk too much about the smoking products but there seemed to be an extensive collection and they have a humidor located at the back of the shop. The whisky selection was absolutely brilliant, with lots of bottles I had never seen before. I could have stood and looked at the range for hours but my attention was immediately pulled to their small selection of gins and wines. Deciding to treat myself to a little bottle I started looking at the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. After picking up a tasty looking little number a member of staff saw me looking at it and said it was the only wine Victoria Beckham drank and it was very difficult to find in Glasgow - SOLD! Who cares if it's true of not I still feel now that VickyB and I are now destined to be BFFs. As you would expect in this type of shop the staff are incredibly knowledgable and helpful. The owner was very nice and had an in depth understanding about whiskey and cigars.
