Went to Ruth's Hallmark in Ocean City this week to exchange or get store credit for two baby gifts…read morethat I received doubles. Because it was a gift I did not have a gift receipt but our baby is only 2 weeks old. Both items had the tag on the back identifying that it was purchased at their store. A nice young girl at the counter said she couldn't do returns and need to get her manager. She came out of the back and said "my manager said we can't exchange the items since you don't have a receipt". I then proceed to ask to speak to her manager who was tucked away in the back room. Hopefully, unpacking some new items as their shelves were bare. Out comes the store manager "Lisa" who immediately said "I can't exchange or give you store credit for items you don't have a receipt for." Ok, how about we started with a friendly hello how can I help you and let me explain that the items were a gift for our new baby and we received two of one item and 3 of the other. She wasn't having any parts of letting me explain just kept repeating herself that she would not allow me to make an exchange or give store credit. I had a few things in my hand to make the exchange and she could care less. Didn't care that the back of both items identified that they were purchased at her store. Said she that the customer could have used a coupon etc. I told her I could give her the customers phone number if she would look it up on her computer. Now all of a sudden she couldn't do that as she would need to go back to the exact day it was purchased. Needless to say, I told her I was very disappointed with her lack of customer service and asked if I could speak with the owner. Her reply "I can not tell you the owners name. I am not allowed to disclose that information". Again, not listening to the customer as I didn't ask who he / she was just wanted to speak with owner. I thought maybe she would take my name and number down to pass along to them to see if they would authorize an exchange, but NO never offered to do that either. If your planning on shopping locally on Asbury Ave you may want to skip this store. I will never go back into that store. I will spend extra time, gas, miles to travel to Somers Point Hallmark Store when I need cards, gifts etc. WARNING....Buyer beware! This Hallmark store does not have good customer service nor care about their customers needs. Lisa, take a course in "customer service" during the winter when you are slow and relying on us locals for support. Enjoy the rest of your summer and may you receive the same customer service you gave to me someday when your looking to exchanging an item that clearly says it was purchased at that store!
