I dropped a relative off at this spot to buy an item and do a little window shopping too. Be mindful when shopping to check on the label on how to clean the garment before leaving the store. After we left, she was just curious on how to clean the garment and found something on it that said "California Proposition 65 warning" with a description after it. After reading more information on it, she wanted to return the item immediately. We returned the next day and she was able to exchange it for something else. They did inform her (over the phone) that not all the clothing in the store has that "California Proposition 65 warning" on it, which was good to know and their return policy is only for exchanges or store credit within 14 days (they can explain the return policy to you). I decided to check out the place myself as I noticed they had some cute clothes. You certainly want to make sure to try on everything you plan to buy. I found a cute top and it fit great, however on the same visit, I tried on a jacket in my size in one of their changing rooms in the back and it did not fit. So I tried the next size up and that didn't fit either. In the end, I just purchased the one item (great price). When it was time to check out, I and another patron found ourselves waiting at the cashier area, with no cashier or employee in sight (there were 3 employees in the store when I first arrived). I think I waited around 3 or 4 minutes and by this time, the other patron decided to go back to shopping (I guess). Someone who works there did eventually appear, apologized, and even wondered where all the other employees were. It was not until after I left the store is when I saw one of the employees dressing a mannequin at the front of the store (I could see her from the cashier area, so I am sure she could see the area from where she was located). I guess she couldn't stop to help us or alert someone else who was working there that folks wanted to check out. Overall they do have some bargains, so it is worth checking out. read more

This store had stylist options but seemed to be cheap material. However, God forbid you return or exchange your items. The female manager of the store barked orders at my sister and I in line while waiting to make an exchange. We didn't know we were to supposed to see a certain person once someone asked if were making an exchange/return as we waited in line. As if they used their ear pieces to pin point who we were and probably were nasty abou it. The manager (I assumed) had a nasty tone saying not to go the other cashier but to see her. NO ONE TOLD US THAT?!?! Idk why she was making deal about that when she should've told her other employees to inform us. Yet, she made an effort to have excellent customer service with every individual in front of the line before us and have a long social conversation. When she finally got to us, on her own time, she was rude. Her overall demenanor and tone was completely unnecessary. Just because My sister wanted to get a refund but wait, that's not possible with them. You get store credit on a piece of paper or exact exchange which isn't a big deal. But like she said, to the manager you're highly inconvenient and a waste of her time. Her overall presentation of behavior was completely unnecessary and once She restores her credit, we will never go there again because of terrible customer service. Both of us wouldn't even label it customer service. If you go there, make sure you dont have any issues with the clothing or manager because it'll waste your time and energy. Yet, they will waste your time as they have side conversations with other employees or with customers that already paid in front of you. Never again. read more

Y'all , don't sleep on this store ! It's one of my favorite stores and I'm sad the ones In Virginia Beach and Chesapeake closed . The tables are always set up beautifully and the manikins give you all the outfit inspo you'd ever need . The store is always so welcoming. Yea some of the quality can be cheap but if you look you find gems for a fraction of the price you'd pay anywhere else ! I'll be making another hour trip back way sooner than I planned . The ladies who work here stood in the dressing room area four at a time and talked about the intimate details of their dating lives while my 14 year old daughter was in the changing rooms. Then when my daughter asked if I could help her I was told it was against store policy for two people to be in the dressing room at once. We immediately left. Will not be returning. read more

I had never heard of Papaya until moving to Williamsburg. The clothing is very affordable and fashion forward.

I was just in there this past Saturday evening shopping with my daughter. Great selection, but poor customer service. The employees that were working were too busy chatting away, shaking there butts, and on their cell phones posting this online because they were laughing. When we tried to get some help we had to go to them & it seemed like we were interrupting them & they put their phones away. When we spoke to one of the ladies to complain she said I'm sorry but right now I'm on break let me get one of the others to help you; when I asked her position she said she was the manger but her name tag said Supervisor & her name was Moira. The whole time we were there she was just walking around telling others what to do & her on her cell phone playing around on her cell phone. The only one that seemed to be serious about her job was the young lady at the register because she seemed like the only one truly working. She was very polite & showed proper customer service. Sad thing is that your other employees while on the clock not working too busy on their phones, talking, shaking their butts, were actually posting what they do online. The reason I know this is because my daughter is friends with one of the employees in Snapchat & posted what they were doing. Like I said before great selection but these employees that night are pitiful & make this company look bad. read more

My friend and I were standing in line for the fitting room for about ten minutes, trying to get the employee's attention to let us in. Two or three employees came by, looked us in the eye, and left just as I opened my mouth to ask for the rooms. In the end, we just went into a couple fitting rooms that had the doors left unlocked. A simple acknowledgement of allowing us into the open rooms would've been acceptable, but no one gave either of us the time of day. Anyone could've stolen clothing by the lack of monitoring, no wonder they're hiring. No matter the job title when hired, if they can't open a door for paying customers, they shouldn't be working there. read more
