History
Established in 2008.
Living and traveling throughout Mexico i was exposed to the fine craftsmanship of artisans practicing their crafts from remote villages to urban settings. Mexican folk art, pottery, glassmaking, jewelry, ceramics and home decor/furniture is often too large or cumbersome for visitors to bring home with them. My goal was to bring these art forms to the USA and make them available to everyone with an appreciation of Mexican art which in many cases has been practiced and refined for centuries. Papaya Arts carries the largest inventory of some of these forms in Western NY.
Meet the Business Owner: Kenia C.
After 24 years in Banking i've spent the last 3 years living on the Mayan Riviera and Mexico City. I've explored many beautiful and remote places throughout Mexico and discovered unique and beautiful art forms created by artisans practicing their crafts which date back to pre-Hispanic times, some of which have never been seen by the casual visitor or vacationer.
We've gathered some of the best of these art forms and created Papaya Arts, where one can find handmade silver jewelry from Taxco, Black Clay Pottery and Alebrijes from Oaxaca, handblown glass from Tonala, Certified Talavera ceramics for the home and garden from Dolores Hidalgo, Blue Clay Figurines from a remote village in Guerrero, stunning pottery from Tlaquepaque, wood carvings and tin/talavera mirrors from San Miguel de Allende, and many other unusual and unique pieces from all over Mexico.
