Probably deserves only 1 star based on my experience below, but it brings back such fond memories of college that I'll bump it up to 2 stars. Plus I freaking love that garlic dipping sauce.
I recently received some coupons in the mail from them, including some that said that they were valid for any pizza with up to 4 toppings for £8.99 for collection only. There were no other restrictions on the coupon, with the exception of an expiration date of February 28.
Tonight I called them and ordered a 4-topping XXL pizza. Originally the man on the phone told me that the pizza would cost £11.99, but then I explained to him that the coupon clearly stated that it was valid for ANY pizza with up to 4 toppings for £8.99. His English wasn't great, so I just assumed that he was confused. I asked him to please confirm that the pizza would cost £8.99, which he did.
When I went to the store pick up the pizza I was told by the manager that it cost £9.99. I tried showing him the coupon, which again clearly stated that it only cost £8.99. He then proceded to argue that the coupon didn't state that "any size" pizza was valid on the coupon.
"But doesn't 'any pizza' by default imply any size?" I contended.
"No, it only says 'any pizza' and not 'any size' pizza" he argued.
That above exchange would be repeated half a dozen times.
I also explained to him that the gentleman with the bad English with whom I spoke on the phone even confirmed to me that it was £8.99, but he argued that he didn't answer the phone himself, and that the pizza cost £9.99.
I would expect this kind of crap in the third world, but not in the UK, and not from an established brand like Papa John's. read more
