This little cafe was situated in Mercat de Colon, which was very close to my hotel. During my travel in Valencia, I was having a hard time finding coffee shops that were not sit-down places. Being a caffeine-addicted American, I am used to grabbing my cup of Joe and move on with my busy day, so I somehow managed to skip coffee for a day after having trouble finding coffee-to-go places, and sadly developed a massive headache after a day at the beach. My mission for the next day, was to have caffeine in my bloodstream as soon as possible, and to have some fresh fruit smoothie hoping that the vitamins would reverse the dehydration. My hotel had recommended that I visit Mercat de Colon for food, so when I got there I was pleasantly surprised by not just the incredibly gorgeous building, but also all the coffee shops inside. I walked around to survey my options, and when I saw that this place has coffee, pastries, and a full menu for fruit smoothie, I was sold! I grabbed a table, and started to study the menu. Sadly, there was no English translation, and the waitress spoke zero English, so I ordered the only items I recognized: cappuccino and chocolate croissant, plus a guava smoothie. The waitress took my order, brought everything to me relatively quickly, but was not particularly friendly nor helpful. She paid very little attention to me so I ended up waiting for a long time before I was able to get the check to pay. I did enjoy everything I ordered, it was everything I wanted/needed for a light breakfast, so the less-than-ideal service was fine. The atmosphere nearby was very relaxing. Overall, I am glad I found this nice little spot. read more
