Man who goes by the name of "John" and his business card shows Panoramic Irrigation and Landscape (with his number on it: 604-653-5603) was hired to raise the control box for my home irrigation system and replace the main supply valve. He originally quoted $400 then midway through the work he claimed the control valves needed to be replaced for an added cost of $300. (Later I discovered those valves only cost $16 each at the local hardware store.) What was meant to be a one day job stretched out to 2 weeks because he kept doing things part way. Finally when the work was supposedly done he asked for final payment but I noticed the main supply valve wasn't changed. I asked him why and he claimed the valve is in perfect working order so didn't change it, and yet he still expected the full payment. He also removed the water bib that was in the original control box because he claimed "I didn't need it". I paid the full amount when he promised a 5-year warranty on the control valves and a free winterization of the whole system in November. We made him sign a written agreement he would do this. Come November and I contact him and he says he will come but claims to have never promised a free winterization. I showed him the agreement by text and then he suddenly remembered promising it and agreed to do it. But suddenly he had a full schedule and said will come a week later. He also said he can't honor the 5-year warranty even though he signed the agreement which says exactly that. After several missed appointments over the next several weeks where I had to take days off work to meet with him, he kept canceling at the last minute and stalling and promises to come "later". When later stretched to December and resulted in freezing temperatures and a strong risk of frozen irrigation pipes, I had to call someone else to do the work. When they did they tried to turn off the water source from the supply valve (the one "John" said was in complete working order), it was obviously broken and we had to pay extra to have the supply valve and the check valve replaced in order to do the winterizing. A new water bib also had to be installed (the one that "John" claimed was unnecessary) in order to do the work. To this date "John" still hasn't contacted me to arrange the winterization time, even though we have already had many nights in negative temperatures. This "John" is a complete scam artist and I am appalled that someone is able to conduct business in this manner. read more
