I know its inflation and cost of ingredients, but when a sandwich is $25-$30, that's a bit much in my opinion. So since it was a nice day i decided to take walk to Chinatown to grab some banh mi. Worked out since before this trip, i did have a craving for banh mi before this trip, but Ngyuen Hong is too far from my house! I read some reviews about Hoang Oanh saying the sandwiches have gone up in price, or that the bread was soggy. But my experience was the bread was fresh with a crispy exterior and soft interior, and this was without asking to have the bread toasted. I ordered a chicken, 2 sausage, and 1 meatball, and it came to $28. Size of the banh mi was quite large (the bread i mean). The fillings was barely ok. But still 1 banh mi was enough for me for lunch. Note that if you ask for spicy, the hot sauce or chilli oil they use is HOT.....and they don't spread it out. So while i was eating the sandwich, i thought they forgot i asked for spicy. But there was one bite where the chilis were all concentrated at. I was gulping down the water like crazy after. The food: Poulet Grillé- This was grilled chicken and was a recommendation from the cashier and it really worked. It was a nice light protein that went well with the the standard fixins on the sandwich. Jambon et Fromage- This was a ham and cheese and the French and Canadians really do them well. Amazing, welcoming service. Staff were so so so friendly. Restaurant is more "hole in the wall" lots of wear and tear on the seats. It had charm and probably lots of stories to tell. Restaurant is right by the water, and has a small patio. Small parking lot. They serve ice cream, soda, poutines, burgers, greek food. Its a cute place.
