They're tacky, obnoxious and high maintenance but you can't help but love a good cuckoo clock and…read morewhere better to purchase one than the city of cuckoo clocks? (Lucerne, Switzerland) They did it. They took the leap that they had been mulled on for nearly three years. We opted to return to the exact shop that had been helpful and friendly in explaining the world of cuckoo clocks so many years ago. This tiny corner shop has everything from wrist and pocket watches to manual clocks and batter operated versions. My sister opted for a vibrant-colored batter version; whereas, my father chose a surprisingly pricey and ornate manual (not shocking on the manual note because like his clock, he tends to be a pain in the ass himself from time to time;). If you're looking to take the cuckoo leap, I highly recommend this spot. Insider's tips: 1.) barter! And 2.) When you go to sigh the credit card receipt, take note of the nice pen. I fancied it so much I asked if he'd throw it in (this is where I get my dad's asshole bartering tactics) - the owner didn't even blink and brought out a packaged pen for each of us. Writes like a gem.

The Swiss are known for making dozens (don't quite remember how many) of brands of watches, and…read morethis is a great one stop shop. You get the ultra high ends brands like Rolex, Tag Heuer, and Tissot to more affordable ones like Swatch, Wenger, and Jacques du Manoir. You can also purchase Swiss army knives by Victorinix in more sizes and colors than you can imagine. Free engraving that's done very quickly! I got keychain size ones (with five functions) for only 15 Swiss Francs each. Note that the WHITE ones can only be purchased in Switzerland! The main store has a great showroom, but go across the street to Harry's other location where they have all the watches that have been discounted! I wish I had done my research on the price of some of these watches, because you truly can get a bargain. I bought two Jacques du Manoir watches for 100-130 Swiss Francs (which converted 1.14 to US American Dollars) each at the discounted store not realizing that online the cheapest you can get it for is over 200. Also, you cannot buy this brand directly from outside of Switzerland. This was one of those rare times where I wish the saleswoman had convinced me to buy more! She was friendly, but no-pressure, laidback compared to a salesperson I would encounter in America. I had to ask her questions about the products more than her telling me. Also nearby is Harry's souvenir shop where you can buy cowbells, fridge magnets, and other cute souvenirs. The prices listed included tax. If you purchase 300 Swiss Francs or more (cumulatively at all three Harry's stores), you can get your VAT (sales tax) back and the best part is Harry's does the forms for you!

However unlike other shops we visited, the isles at Casa Grande felt wider than most other stores, everything was very neat and well organized, and the establishment was fastidiously clean. Overall we found the staff to be polite, friendly, and fluently multi-lingual. Best of all, almost everything was reasonably priced! Two items of special praise for the inventory at Casa Grande: their selection of chocolate bars was expansive (we purchased several multi-packs), and they had virtually every model of Swiss Army Knife in stock with on-site engraving available (we got one for every member of the family). Additionally the store had very nice, free restrooms.
