Consistently slow drive thru, overpriced, rarely good service, and always out of something. Seems like poor management

It's about time that Zanesville gets some "healthier" fast casual food options and I'm so glad this restaurant chain made a home on the North end of the city. I've eaten at tons of Panera Bread establishment over the years, some in Phoenix, some in Chicago, others here in Ohio, and the experience I had here was very similar to the norm. There's plenty of parking at this location (score) and they have a rather large patio out front with tons of tables and umbrellas for shade. Although the fake plants can go, no need for that. The place is kept clean and the staff was cordial. They have a lot of vegetarian friendly options so and I'm so thankful for that. I usually get the pick two and I always get the Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich. When I visited PB in Zanesville, it was no exception. It's honestly the best vegetarian sandwich I've ever gotten at a chain establishment. They start this sandwich on tomato basil bread and add peppers, feta cheese, cucumbers, greens, tomatoes, red onions, a delicious cilantro-jalapeno hummus. While it can be messy, I always eat every bite. Lastly, when it comes to the price, everything here is really reasonable. There's a few other reviews that complain about it being too expensive but honestly, its higher quality food then what you get at McDonald's so of course it's going to cost a little more. I get my meal for under ten dollars so I'm always happy walking out the door. Toss out the staff having random bad days (we're all human) and the occasional sloppy sandwich and this place is cool in my book. read more

The food has went down in quality. Maybe need to scale back to the items they can do best and stick with that. Nice atmosphere though.

I'm not sure if all Panera locations are as poorly run as this one, but I hope not. The overall management is very bad. I don't dine in much primarily use the drive thru. I've never seen a place like this, when an item is out of stock they just substitute something else. No notice or asking if that is ok they just do it. I might prefer to just cancel the out of stock item rather than get something completely different. Something as simple as ordering a bagel sliced can be a frustrating experience. I've received sliced bagels so poorly sliced they can't be used. Of course I don't see that until I get all the way home. If the slicer doesn't work properly then hand slice them. Your staff should not send subpar unusable food out your drive thru window. It's just unacceptable! They just need to do a better job and care more about the product they are providing the customer. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED! Over the last few months I have had several orders delivered with missing items. I called and let the manager know each time. The manager was extremely polite and indicated that she would let the workers in back know and apologized. She offered free meals which I kindly declined. Today I placed another order and my driver was waiting for over 20 minutes, so I called. Again, I received an apology. The driver just arrived and he apologized and it wasn't his fault. I personally think it is shameful that the workers at Panera continually drop the ball. What ever happened to taking pride in your work? read more

We bought a dozen and a half bagels with cream cheese to go and had them sliced to be served at a large family gathering. Unfortunately, we didn't realize until we got home that most were ruined because the slicer had barely shaved off the top of each bagel rendering them nearly useless. There's no way that the employee doing the slicing did not realize that. Such laziness and neglect is inexcusable. As seems to be the case with most Paneras, everything about this company - from food, to cleanliness, to service - has deteriorated over the past two years. This once excellent restaurant is excellent no more; in fact, it has fallen from an easy 5 stars to 2 in my book. As a result, we have gone from eating there twice a week to only once every blue moon, and that is only when there are few other options. What a shame. read more

First time at Zanesville Panera. I didn't know Panera has drive thru in some locations. Would be great if Columbus has some. I bought sandwiches at drive thru for my Mom's first visit and as a treat a cinnamon roll for her. She loved it and loves the cinnamon roll. Sandwiches are good and my only complaint is the sauce on mine was just on the leaf outside edge of the sandwich. Still a little expensive for what you get and portion small but tastes great. I wish we could have sat down in dinning area or patio. read more

I order usually the same thing every day! I thought that when I ordered that the person making my sandwich knew how to read . I keep ordering extra onions and everything else that comes on said sandwich! I'm being charged for extra onions but keep getting extra lettuce and no mayonnaise and double mustard. On some days I don't get tomato. read more

TOO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT YOU GET. With that said, the food is delicious. The outdoor dining patio is very nice. Not bad for a every now and again meal. read more

I love the food, but I always have to be careful to check my order because it's happened more than once that something is left out of my order. Last time I had to go back and ask for the bread and chips my husband and I had ordered in our takeout order. Food is good, but the service is often just so-so. read more

This place is usually the best but today was not that. I ordered what I always ordered and that's broccoli cheddar soup. Well after waiting ten minutes or so they call my order and tell me that they don't have the soup and I would have to get something else. We I ask core cream of chicken and wild rice. As my fiancé goes to get it and brings it back, it looks like chicken morsel soup. So I walk up to the counter and ask, they told me that the soup is just extra watery today but is still good. After eating it I have felt sick most of the day.. let's hope this never happens again. read more

The prices are outrageously high for the portion sizes that you get. It was honestly kind of shocking and I felt ripped off. Between the two of us, we didn't even get that much. Everything I ordered tasted good, but not crazy good. Will not come back to Panera Bread locations unless it changes someday. It's a shame. I appreciate healthy food options on the go, if only it were cheaper, I'd be going here. :( read more

We are avid Panera goers. The food was average, or in other words not the freshest, but acceptable on a road trip for something healthy. Huge Plus: The customer service was very good. Friendly staff, and the woman at the front desk made us fresh coffee and had a great smile. They were very willing to help with what we needed. read more

Service is slow. I waited at the cash register for about five minutes while three staff members walked by but nobody took my order. Then it took 20 minutes to get a bowl of soup to go. And when I got it home it was the wrong kind of soup. They were out of their bread that came with the meal. They did offer to substitute. This was a non-busy Time. Stopped by with a couple new friends last week for lunch. Had the tomato soup and 1/2 grilled cheese and an oatmeal raisin cookie. No disappointment there. Shouldn't be with such a simple order. Love their vanilla iced cinnamon rolls, their bagels, most everything they bake. Bread is not cheap tho. Service is good and no delays when not too busy. Will be back. read more

Had lunch at Panera with my wife today. She ordered broccoli cheddar soup with 1/2 chicken salad sandwich. She said both were very good. I ordered the chicken noodle soup that was good but not outstanding. I also ordered 1/2 toasted cheese sandwich that was the driest that I have ever eaten. There was no butter or margarine on the bread. It was not good at all. They give each a chunk of baguette wit nothing to spread on it. We also had one pecan roll,one cup of coffee and one cold drink. This is a very overrated, eat at home place you get buzzed to go get your food, have to get your own coffee. Disabled people hate these type of restaurants. They did deliver my salad, Asian chicken, fought dressing, no butter for a 4 inch price of baguette torn buy hand . If I want to chew on a huge piece of bread in public ( wait) DON'T want too. Had paneras today here in Ohio and the employees were so great and so awesome. Food was great and just their whole way of taking care of the customers was amazingly 10 stars. Nothing at all like the one in Lake City, FL. Everyone the doesn't take a minute to actually think of the customer that always comes in. They always act like it's my first time there. So thanks to their staff if I ever come back thru I sure will visit again. read more

The food is good, but the issue I have is they are ALWAYS out of something. The last 5 times I've been there they are out of what I order and it doesn't seem to matter what time of day it is. If they offer something on their menu and they are open until 9 they should have those things until close to closing time. It's just ridiculous! read more

So they opened about a month ago so it is only fair to give them some time to burn everything in. This being our 3rd visit it is time for review. First of all the property is very well done. The building is fresh ,clean and inviting. Since our second visit though when you enter you get a strong smell of sewer gas. It has diminished in the last couple of weeks but still very noticeable. I have inquired but not gotten any answers as to why. Either way should identify the source and fix it! On all of our visits we have entered to a back up at the register with only one cashier and several customers in line. Now this is right at dinner time so really more resources should be allocated in order for me to feel that good service is being provided. The food is consistently good which is to be expected but again the cook time is slow. Tonight it took more than 15 minutes for a salad and flat bread. They could easily jump to 4 stars in my book with just a little more attention to detail. read more

I understand that this is a new store however it needs some work. I experienced something that will keep me away from this place. While waiting for my take out order at the food delivery window I observed a woman slopping food onto trays as she delivered them to people. She spilled soup over the edges of bowls and did not clean it up. She tossed bread onto trays from a distance, bouncing it off other items. Also, I ordered the "Take 2" - a Fugi Apple salad and Italian sandwich - the sandwich was correct however I received a basic vegetable salad rather than the one I ordered.
