I truly loved all of the exhibits and interesting facts about our Louisiana Governors. This site is in walking distance of many other attractions in the downtown area.

Supposedly, Long, who wanted to be President, wanted the front of the building to look like the White House, which it does. Is it worth a visit? Well, sure. It's free and it's a part of history. Located just outside of the LSU campus, it has been a mainstay in the area for decades. While it's mainly concerts that rock this venue, I've attended corporate events, watched LSU Tiger games, and enjoyed a show or two in years past. I've always enjoyed my time here. Not to be confused with a cinema, this multifaceted venue has played host to a number of events and has partnered with many organizations both local and national to feature great acts and some for great causes. My favorite event in the past was a Saints game night, where for $12 one got unlimited beers (Bud Lights only?) and all the hot dogs one could eat, as well as red beans and rice. If that deal is still available, I'll be floored. The parking isn't the most friendly. Street parking is usually that is available and it's more luck than anything else. The Varsity is in good company with a number of other super famous establishments located within the same block. Figuratively, one could chow down at Chimes, play games at Barcade, drink their face off here, and then head to Louie's or Raising Canes for some late night food. This is such a prime location that it's great for a solid casual night out. From concerts to comedy nights, there is literally not a thing that this place can't host. While I do wish for a slightly better men's bathroom, unsightly conditions do happen at places that holds hundreds of people at a time. The parking lot is behind the building and is not big at all. Fortunately we were able to park across at LSU visitors parking lot and walk about 3 minutes down to the venue. The line was wrapped around the building but it moved quickly. I did will call tickets and had no problem with my name being found on the list. There was a bar with about 10 barstools set up but those were taken. I would suggest being first in line to get a seat at one of these. Upstairs had a few tables but once again those were taken. I ended up watching the show against the wall next to the railing and had a good view of everything. I had a Basic Bitch drink which was surprisingly good. Drink was huge and was only $11. I will definitely look for more events at this venue.

I, myself have taken advantage of the weekly adult classes and art journaling! I love having time set aside just for me! Add to that enhancing my artistic eye and abilities! We've also had the rare occasion of a PNO & early release classes. My kids have always come home with incredible projects and an earful of how much they loved that days teachers. All the teachers we have experienced are kind and informative when teaching a class. We've experienced FULL classes and smaller classes and I have felt the attention given has been on point every time. So glad we've found a place that has helped up grow artistically

This is by far my favorite parade in Baton Rouge, and in 15 years, I have only missed one due to a…read moremedical emergency. Held in Mid-City and the Garden District area, it is embraced by the residents in those neighborhoods. The fact that it is NOT held in downtown Baton Rouge is a HUGE draw - I stopped going downtown for most of the parades during Mardi Gras because there is no flavor to the route, and it doesn't feel like it's anything special. For the Wearin' of the Green, families along the route open their homes to friends and even strangers. While parking can be a bit difficult, I have always been able to find a spot no matter which area I planned to watch it in, or have only had to venture a block or two out of the way. I make it a point to plan ahead. Plan to arrive early to ensure you can find a spot. Don't plan on rolling in at 9:30 when the parade rolls at 10. And just plan to have a fun morning visiting with your fellow BR neighbors. For the past two years, we have hosted a float and ridden in the parade. That's been a very wonderful eye opening experience! I love seeing friends and family out in the crowd, and it's fun to watch the lawns full of people. You see a true representation of this amazing city, and just about everyone is polite, enthusiastic, and thankful for the throws we spend our own money on. Some logistics - if you have small kids or aren't into the crowd scene, plan to watch it toward the beginning of the route. As it rolls down Terrace, there is so much open space in the median area. If you area more adventurous, setup alongside City Park on Perkins. And if you're looking for a true, crazy, wild parade experience, head to the Perkins Road Overpass and join the restaurants and bars for some good fun in the crowds. Rain or shine, the Wearin' of the Green parade is a MUST DO! I look forward to throwing you all some amazing stuff again next year!

As you can imagine, it's a party for almost every holiday here. So, I consider my daughter lucky for getting to spend most of her pre-teen life here in Louisiana where parades happen left and right. You think Mardi Gras parades are extravagant, well this one is right up there with those. Floats are big, beads are abundant and just as many hands are up in the air ready to catch whatever is thrown at them. This time, it's not the bight purple, gold and pink colors you see. This time it's a sea of green: beads, cups, shirts and even beards. The parade is not too far from where I live and it can get crazy. If you're a visitor and you think you'll be here for it, definitely worth it. The aftermath of the parade is definitely a sight, too. Parade route travels through the Garden District and on Perkins/Acadian area. Any of the plazas in that area become party central. It is definitely a family-friendly parade, so don't miss out and get your spots early.

This year they will be having 2 performances and both will be at The Suma Community Hall in Summa Louisiana. The first night is a Charity Event for The Food Bank so admission is 1 canned food item per person and that will be on Friday December 6th 2019 at 7Pm. The second performance will be on Saturday December 7th 2019 at 2PM, admission is $20 per person. Love this Nutcracker !
