I thoroughly enjoyed painting my custom sign. With guidance from Ashley, the owner, I felt confident to create my masterpiece! Plus the benefit of leaving the mess at the shop- it's a no brainer! While I was there I picked up a few trivets with a southern flair as well as prayer books to gift out. I will be returning as often as possible! I know my way around the glue gun and a Silhouette machine but not a palette of watercolors or charcoal pencils. This was the perfect class! I got to create something without any real preconceived idea of how it "had" to look and for me, that was refreshing! Rhonda was informative and patient in explaining why were doing things a certain way and she left the artistic part up to me. She covered all the different materials she commonly uses. I appreciated all the recommendations and useful info on the materials. I feel confident I could create another geode all in my own now. Truly a relaxing process and a great self-care experience. Going to try to make it a girls night next time!

Revival Art House is the perfect shop for any gifts you need or home decor, etc. One of the two owners, Dana, was in the front when I entered and was so patient to answer my questions. She shared that Revival had been open for just over 3 years and sell/display art from over 200 local artists (Louisiana and southern region)! They offer interest free layaway, so if you have your eyes set on something a little over your monthly budget, they work with you to make it yours. Once upon a time, I designed and sold jewelry, and Dana was very encouraging with the idea of me becoming a vendor. She explained that the artists make 60% of their sales while the store gets 40%. Seems reasonable to me, and I'd be proud to have my jewelry on display with all the other local treasures! Overall, I absolutely loved Revival Art House, and along with Berry Town Produce, will likely make a point to stop in every time I'm near Ponchatoula. Beautiful setup in here and reasonable prices (set by the artists). I highly recommend!

I've loved art all my life, not just painting but all the mediums. After moving to the bayou just…read moreafter Katrina, I searched high and low to find a creative place, sadly none existed. Then one day I heard a gal taking at an Art Versus event that she would be opening an art studio and gallery in Thibodaux. It took me awhile to search it out. Then in April of this year I visited Stephanie Donaldson's space after an art walk in downtown Thibodaux. The Purple Penguin offers both classes for the young and young at heart (adults), as well as open studio time or a space to hang or display your art for sale. Stephanie and her staff offer group or private art classes, Corks and Brushes painting, paint your own pottery, hand building and wheel throwing ceramics, mosaic stained glass projects, raku, glass fusing and crafty projects. They also host Birthday parties, Bridal and Baby showers, Date nights (yep drop off your kids and they'll feed them, create with them, so you can sneak off for a few hours), Ghost nights (channel your Demi Moore/Patrick Swayze with this hot and heavy throwing night), Kids camps and more. As an artist i am always looking for new ways to bring my creative dreams to fruition. In California, I love working in ceramics and when I moved here I tried to find someplace that I could buy Kiln time. I searched high and low and eventually gave up. After discussing my needs with Stephanie, she explained that she offers several options to outside artists that allow them to work in the studio or in the comfort of their own studio and bring work in to have it fired. Her studio seems to be all one could hope for if one had an artistic bent...the studio contains several rooms devoted to different artistic disciplines from painting to pottery to glass work....They have already made pottery for you to purchase and paint/glaze or whatever you do with it...They also have some Oyster shells that have been glazed that one could use as serving trays for shucked raw oysters or for doing chargrilled ones...pretty neat! This seems like a real cool place and the people seem genuinely into having people get into & love art! Whether it be beginners or people with more skill!!
