Delicious! My new favourite dumpling house. Fresh, great service, very affordable. We left with big happy panda bellies.

Other highlights were the chili prawns, and the shitake mushrooms with spinach. Usually Chinese food leaves me feeling bloaty, but this was really lightly cooked and very flavorful. The service was great too, we had a very friendly and funny server.

Sorry to have to give this restaurant only 3 stars, but there is no way around it. Went for dinner…read moreand ordered the duck crepes for a starter and the "three time" chicken as a main. Overall the food was very good. It didn't make me jump for joy or strike me as some of the best Chinese I have ever had, but it was good. The duck crepes were a little measly for the price, but more importantly the just didn't seem "ducky" enough if that makes any sense. The covering dough and the sauce where in charge on this dish and the duck was merely a bit player. the chicken was good, although it was a little sweeter than I would have thought. A healthy amount of ginger really set this dish apart and overall I was pretty happy with it. 4 stars for food. I wouldn't go back (at least for dinner) because of the price, however. I know Melbourne is expensive, but with 100k Chinese places to choose from, I think I will spend my money on excellent rather than merely good Chinese food. In addition, the service was very bad. I waited for at least 20 minutes after I was finished for my food to be removed and then waited for another 15-25 minutes to get my bill. I never did get the bill. Eventually I just decided to go downstairs and ask for my check and pay myself. Bad service on one occasion does not necessarily mean that service is always or even mostly bad, but with so many other options to choose from, why risk it?

"...LOVELY LITTLE CANTONESE MEAL IN CAULFIELD SOUTH..."…read more Sunday before Chrissie we took advantage of a '3 course meal with a drink' Groupon Deal at PRINCESS @ ELSTERNWICK in Glenhuntly Road, Caulfield. It was truly lovely... nothing to rave to anyone about, but thoroughly enjoyable... -Food was timely, generous and good - none of us could really fault anything we had.. -Service was impeccable - patient, attentive.. -Restaurant is small, but very light, airy and actually quite feminine in decor - not at all expected - a nice surprise... -Papers, magazines and books to read - a great idea for grumpy teenagers, denied their devices for an hour or so, to flick through whilst eating.. or waiting to eat.. or deciding what to eat..!! Anyway, from the 'traditional Cantonese menu' we chose 4 entrees, 4 mains, 4 desserts and then chose 4 cold drinks from the fridge.. ALL for $58..!! We added 4 soups, 1 large Special Fried Rice to share and another round of drinks for an extra $40. We'd all been VERY WELL 'fed and watered' for just under $100...!!! Will definitely go again.. Yes, without a voucher.. Menu and Take-away prices are very reasonable and good value for family dining. PS. We took BYO wine, not sure if it's licensed. Visited on Sunday 20 December 2015 for Dinner.

So much to unpack here ... There were four of us for dinner and they seated us at a strange table…read morefor six, and so we were kind of spaced out too much. They gave us only two menus for the four of us which was annoying. The soup came out first and the other three of us had to wait so much longer for our entrees to come out. They too came out staggered, and since the chicken ribs came out SO late, they were still eating them as their main meal came out. I hate that. Cutlery was practically thrown at us. No class or care. Didn't find any of the staff warm or friendly at all, sadly. The one redeeming feature is that the food is nice. Is it the best Chinese food I've ever eaten? No. But it would scratch an itch if you're craving it. Also, just pray that if you order the Sweet and Sour Chicken like I did, that it's not drowning in sauce, as the batter then goes soggy and the cutlery gets sticky and sauce ends up on the table. Sadly, I wouldn't return here. There was no warmth, atmosphere or anything inviting, and some dishes were dirty. Yes, the food is ok, and reasonably priced, but there are so many other places one could go to. Sorry, but just being honest.

To put this into perspective, next week we're travelling to asia to do just that. Anyhow, I digress. The point is we get through a lot of steamed (and fried) parcels of deliciousness. Ripples in Bentleigh (not the other Ripples which I'm lead to believe is less than fabulous) is rather tremendous. Take a look at the pictures I've uploaded and you'll see how fresh everything is. This is now amongst our new favourites in Melbourne. So why only four stars? Well... the debate at our table came to the conclusion that you can't give a place 5 stars when you've only been once. Surely at least a star should be reserved for consistency. Anyone can have a great experience once. It's really not my thing, but I'll also say this - Ripples is extremely child friendly.

I loved how this dishes had lots of colour too them. They looked really appealing and portion sizes were generous. Atmosphere/Service: Kotaraya is a fairly large restaurant, and offers a good number of tables for larger groups. It always seems to be busy in the evenings, and has a pleasant atmosphere. Service is a little hit and miss, they really need to work on their organisation with this and ensure they are approaching tables in the order they arrived, but staff are nice. Would I recommend it: Yes, I was surprised given the variety of food available how well cooked and well presented it was. I also thought it was very affordable for the portion sizes given. I'd recommend booking if you plan to go in the evenings, particularly at weekends.

When we lived in Elwood, we ordered from here at least fortnightly. Their delivery is very quick and the food was always hot and tasty. Their won tons alone are enough to tempt us to go back now that we're out of the area. The five spices calamari was always fresh and tender and the battered chicken with choice of sauce rounded off our favourites.
