Because of the wonderful reviews given this restaurant, I drove 8 miles to get the "best authentic" Chinese food. I got the sesame chicken. The menu said the batter has sesame seeds in it. There were none. There were a few sesame seeds in the sauce (which was separate from the chicken). Both were meh. The crab rangoons were beautiful and crispy, but the filling was only cream cheese, not even a taste of crab. Egg drop soup was k. I truly hope this was just a bad day. read more

I don't know why but I keep forgetting this place is here. They have the best food. Many places have ok crab Rangoon but often the shell is dry and chewy and they have very little filling. Not here! There's have plenty of gooey filling and the shell is so fresh and crunchy. Every thing I received was fresh and delicious. The service is friendly and I learned how to say thank you in Cantonese. So good!! I've been going here for years and it always hits the spot. The waitstaff is very cordial and I appreciate that they are keeping covid precautions (wearing masks, and sometimes even gloves) while working. I usually get the hunan chicken combo with another half order of crab Rangoon and an extra egg roll but everything I've ever tried is good! This is the location of one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Memphis. It used to be Formosa before Formosa moved to the Quince and Kirby area. Panda Garden largely kept the same Formosa menu from yesteryear. I think they do American-Chinese very well. I would recommend this place if people feel like having American-Chinese or just come here for nostalgia. But between Mosa, Formosa, and its other "children restaurants" Royal Panda and Mulan, I would say this is probably the least impressive one. I do feel bad to give them just 3 stars, but 4 stars also gives them way too much credit. If I could instantly teleport to any of these Formosa restaurants, this would be the last choice on my list. I wanted to love this place. It's off the beaten path. Its a home in the wall. The service was ok. We had a meal for two. I had the wonton soup and it was great. My significant other had the hot and sour soup and he liked it. The egg rolls were up next. They were vegetarian. They were good but I'm not a vegetarian. Our main dishes were severely lacking. Everything was like warm. It came with broccoli beef. It was ok. The sweet and sour chicken was the best but it's nothing to write home about. The fried rice was ok. If you like Mosa, you will like the favors offered here. The atmosphere and location can't compare with Mosa, but the recipes are said to be the same and it certainly tastes like that is the case. Fast service and always predictable food. The house fried rice is delicious. These people rank among the best carry out in the city. You will nearly go insane if you have a long drive home with the delicious food steaming nearby in the carry out boxes. You may want to bring a designated driver if you are overly hungry. read more

In my opinion, Panda Garden is the best Chinese in Memphis after A-Tan. The ingredients are always good quality and fresh. Their vegetables are crisp yet tender enough not to use a knife. I've been driving by this place for years and have just never had the courage to give it a try. It's on the less appealing end of Summer Ave., however I'm finding myself more and more in and around this area for great food. My Co-workers and I were in the mood for some Chinese food that didn't include the dreaded buffet. After looking at several places on Yelp we decided on Panda Garden and we were glad we did. We all ordered a lunch special and it was an abundance of food. For starters the Spring Roll and Chicken Wing came out first and were very tasty and not far behind that came our soup. I had the Hot & Sour and it was delicious. Everyone else had Egg Drop Soup and they all enjoyed it as well. I ordered the Crab Rangoon's. After reading Justin B's review how could I not! I was prepared to be disappointed after that review but Justin was spot on with his assessment and we were wishing that the order of eight was closer to eighteen. They were so light and flakey, definitely some of the best I've ever had. The main course came out and was a hit with everyone. We all had the General Tso's Chicken and it was unlike most Chinese Restaurants, It wasn't over battered and over fried pieces of chicken drowned in a super sweet and spicy sauce. It was almost all white meat chicken cooked to perfection. The sauce was great and the onions and peppers were so well seasoned and fresh. The only reason I'm not going a full five stars on this review is the Fried Rice. It was at best two stars. I love Fried Rice and this was pretty far down on my list of good Fried Rice. That being said I can't wait to try some other dishes at my new favorite Chinese Restaurant. read more

Stopped in for a midweek lunch. It had been ages since I'd had Chinese and I had a craving. Service was prompt and efficient. I ordered General Tso's chicken extra spicy. Lunch started with hot n sour soup which was very good. My lunch came out shortly after that and in total didn't take very long. I was disappointed by the food prep and presentation though. It appeared to be a plain chicken breast cooked, cut up and ladled with sauce. There was no breading on the chicken for the sauce to cling to so it was simply chicken meat in sauce, and the sauce wasn't spicy, let alone extra spicy (hot). It seemed too rushed. I have only ordered takeout from Panda Garden. But it looks like they have ample seating inside & the staff are always helpful and efficient when I pick my order up. This is our go-to Chinese food in Memphis. We usually order typical American type Chinese food, but every time our order is correct, the food is hot, and the taste never disappoints. The portion sizes too are large. We have also ordered from another popular Chinese takeout restaurant in Memphis, but when they got the order wrong, they did not apologize or offer anything to compensate us for the time & inconvenience. So, we default to Panda Garden now every time. They have yet to ruin their reputation in our eyes. It's not only a safe bet you'll like it, but a good chance they will become your go-to as well. read more

Can you give a restaurant 5 stars for good service and a single delicious appetizer? I'm tempted to for Panda Garden's crab rangoon. Panda Garden is set back off of Summer Ave in a small-ish nondescript building. You're greeted as you enter a small vestibule, then led around to your table. The inside is nicely laid out with booths and sort of an intimate feel to everything. Most of the menu is pretty good, and while I've always been satisfied, nothing has really stood out to me. The service has always been friendly and prompt. The one really exceptional thing, as I mentioned, is the crab rangoon. You can get them as an order - I think there are 8 - and when you eat those, you will want another order. You may decide to just eat those and forget the entree. They're really, really good. If you're a rangoon lover, or even just like Chinese food in general, definitely check this place out. read more

By far the best Chinese I've had in Memphis. I've tried various places for Chinese from downtown to midtown, but it took me forever to find one that was both delicious and worth the price. The wonton soup is great to start and has lots of veggies in it. Sweet and sour chicken, broccoli and chicken, and general tsao chicken did not disappoint at all! Still love the Szechuan chicken...but. We mostly order take-out and they have changed the food containers. Instead of styrofoam for the entree, they now use a black bottom, clear top, plastic container. This is good. You can reuse the container, but must remember that it has two steam holes in the lid. Here's the bad part. It appears to me that the portion is smaller. The rice is in a traditional paper container. This container gets smaller and smaller with each order. Why? Rice is cheap. A pleasure boat of Chinese goodness. It's like you step into a portal that sends you to a Chinese fairy world where everyone is nice, service is great, and donuts. The General Tso's chicken is lightly-colored and saucy and does not remind you at all of something you might stumble upon on a forest floor by a tree. The Hot n Sour soup was not as awesome as everyone says because it wasn't very hot and not very sour. But I imagine those flavored can be difficult to combine so I'll give a pass. Sort of like when your wife asks you how she looks and you say "corduroy." My tongue is just not that advanced. i'm late on this review but we loved our food so much i still wanted to post! we ordered takeout a little less than two weeks ago and were so happy with our dinner! everything was fresh, packaged nicely and tasted AMAZING! we have definitely found our favorite chinese place! and the lady in charge of the drive thru was so sweet! i didn't catch her name but she recommended the brown sauce to us for our fried rice and we loved it! thank y'all! highly recommend the lo mein and general tsos! This is the closest restaurant to our house, and it happens to be one of our favorites. The soups are always good (wanton, egg drop, hot & sour). Surprisingly one of our favorite appetizers is the "hundred flower chicken" which is like a fried chicken breast badderd with a type of dressing (like turkey dressing!) It's really tasty and the full order is just like 2 chicken breasts- plenty for 2. Our favorite dish is the combination rice noodle.. It's chicken, shrimp, pork, beef, and veggies stir fried in super thin rice noodles. It's very clean and flavorful and there isn't any overwhelming sauce covering it all up.
