Ajiic Tango, Ajijic…read more
After a long day of hiking and walking around Ajijic, I was absolutely exhausted and waiting for my ride back to Guadalajara when I came across Ajiic Tango, an Argentinian restaurant. Being Argentinian myself, I thought, "Well, why not? A little taste of home sounds pretty good right about now!"
The restaurant itself is lovely. It has a warm, inviting atmosphere, with lots of leather, comfortable seating, and an open, lively feel. The place was packed, and people seemed to be having a great time enjoying their meals, especially the meat dishes. It definitely had the feel of a popular local spot.
The service was excellent, and I really appreciated the attention they gave me. They brought bread to the table right away, and it was warm, tasty, and wonderfully comforting. After a long day on my feet, that little touch was especially welcome. Sometimes, it's the simple things that make you happy!
I ordered two empanadas. Now, here's where my Argentinian credentials come into play. They were okay, but just okay. Let's say they didn't quite meet my expectations. When you've grown up with Argentinian empanadas, you develop certain standards, and these didn't quite hit the mark for me. But that's my personal take, and someone else might enjoy them more.
I finished with a special serving of ice cream and asked for dulce de leche on the side. They happily accommodated my request, and that definitely earned them extra points! Because let's be honest, dulce de leche makes almost everything better.
I also enjoyed a very cold beer, which was excellent and exactly what I needed after all that walking.
Overall, I really liked the atmosphere, the attentive service, and the welcoming feel of the place. Although the empanadas weren't quite what I would hope for as an Argentinian, the restaurant was busy, lively, and clearly appreciated by its customers.
Would I recommend it? Yes! Especially if you're in Ajijic looking for a comfortable place to enjoy a drink, good service, and Argentinian-style food. Just keep in mind that my standards for empanadas may be a little unfairly high. After all, some things are hard to beat when they remind you of home!
