Absolutely delicious. Must go. Wait staff is nice, we were the only non-locals there, prices were very reasonable, and both the coffee and chilaquilles were salivatingly good. This was my first time getting food because you can't take your dog inside, I get its a small place but it's a great place for this Foody. I ordered takeout because I had my dog again. I had the chili rellenos plate. $120 peso's about $7.30 USD. Very large portion, great pintos. Both the rice and beans were more than I've ever had. Two large chilies. Great cheese and melted. We were continuing our journey throughout the area, and we decided to come here for brunch on Friday. Luckily we arrived right at around 11:30am and they were still serving breakfast. This restaurant is one of the most unique in this area, and it's uniquely decorated throughout the restaurant. Even better on Friday there was a musician near the entrance playing his guitar and singing some romantic Mexican tune. It's a rather small space and we were fortunate enough to be seated near the front. We both decided on some breakfast food, and I went fir the omlett which consisted of jamon and queso. My wife decided on juevos Mexicanos which has become one of her favorite dishes since we arrived in the country. We also both got two sides if hot cakes, and she ordered a cafe Americano while I got the choko milk to drink. We both also ordered bottled waters to drink with our meal. 3 of us went for lunch. Staff was friendly. Menu was not all in English but staff helped out with that. I got the Mexican platter with no steak. Chile relleno with cheese enchiladas with beans and salad. Yum! Cheese didn't melt well but it's a Mexican Panella cheese. All for $60 Pesos! My friend got the chicken mole with salad and tortillas and raved about it not stop. It was a light colored mole but thick and it was a ridiculous amount for $60 pesos. Steak was the usual grey tough slivers but ok. Chili relleno was watery with unmelted cheese, the exterior though was as it should be. The cheese enchilada was unmelted. The beans watery, the rice was oddly tasteless and watery. Had horchata as my beverage and it was also watery and tasteless. The tortillas were doughy and somewhat tasteless. My friends in Ajijic recommended this place for good food and inexpensive prices. We loved it and went back several times during our stay. They are open for breakfast and lunch and busy. You may have to wait for a table, but it's worth it. The menu is easy to figure out even in Spanish. We all know what tacos are after all. The lemonade is fabulous! Located right off the plaza to the west. This was a small cafe with traditional mexican food. We ate there for breakfest. My wife enjoyed the chilaquiles and I the special omelette with queso, onions and bell peppers with a side of refried beans. I guess if you were to ask me what I enjoyed the most, I would have to say the coffee which was accented with a bit of cinnamon and served in a tradition clay type cup. Buen provecho! read more

Wonderful authentic Mexican. Menu is in Spanish, but waitstaff helps. Order the burrito al pastor for a real treat. This is a local place and everyone was ordering soup (95 degrees is not soup weather for me) and we will try. Tacos terrific, chili rellonos perfectly breaded. We love this place. read more

I used to go here regularly and found the food tasty and inexpensive. Last time I was there I ordered a Chile relleno plate and ended up chewing on an about a 12 inch hair in my mouth. Very disgusting, the worst thing is that when I brought it to the attention of the staff, they reacted as if it was not a very big deal. I'm not going to miss them. read more

I had lunch at Chile Verde today. It's small and pretty hot but the servers do a great job and the food was delicious. I ordered chicken fajitas that came with a side of rice and frijoles The chicken was all white breast meat grilled to perfection. I also had a coke light. The bill was 75 pesos = $4.99!!!!! One of the true and authentic Mexican restaurants in Ajijic. Prices are modest and the food is great. It can get really crowded but it's worth the wait. Look for their daily specials. English isn't their strong suit but you'll manage. Friendly staff. I don't often rate anything five stars but this restaurant really excels for what it is, a little, genuine Mexican cafe located on one side of the plaza principal. It's not a place to celebrate your 25th wedding anniversary but it's a great place to have a very decent breakfast and/or lunch at a very decent price. Portions are good.
