Great concept but poorly executed. Average burgers, good fries and shakes, bad coffee.

But....your stuck in your hotel room vomiting and shitting yourself cause you stupidly decided to eat at Pancakes at the Rocks. The steak was rancid and smelt off, the brisket was tough....i shouldnt have to struggle sawing through it. The margarita was so strong, i couldnt finish it. Overall a terrible experience and one that has officially put me off all Pancakes on the Rocks restaurants. Save yourself a painful trip to the emergency department with food poisoning and avoid this place.

Don't ever let anyone tell you pancakes are only for breakfast. They are great for lunch too! Savoury all day breakfast pancakes and crepes on the menu but I went for sweet. I ordered the devils delight. I initially struggled choosing as I would find the topping I liked (chocolate) but it would come with chocolate pancakes as well. Too much chocolate, even for me. To my delight I was able to substitute chocolate for buttermilk at no extra cost. I believe it is $1.50 per pancake to substitute the other way. The pancakes were thick, warm, fluffy and had that unmistakable fresh pancake smell. Yes I did sniff them first to check. The topping of cream, chocolate ice cream, fresh strawberries and chocolate sauce was heaven! Plenty of sauce to eat with pancake and dip my strawberries. The service was fast and the menu is very well priced.

Does service even exist here?…read more I usually don't like to give bad reviews, but Pancake Manor definitely needs improvement. I came to Pancake Manor with a friend after needing to satisfy a long craving for some pancakes. The food is generally quite delicious, and the sides go well; however, the service leaves a lot to desire. We sat down and looked at the menu to make our choices. When we decided what we were going to order and the respective sides we wanted we struggled in getting anyone to come over and serve us. It wasn't a busy day, the restaurant only had about a third capacity, we weren't sitting in an ambiguous spot (right across from the main drinks area), nor was there a lack of staff. Staff just couldn't notice us. Staff would walk by and my friend would gesture for service but nothing happened. Eventually, we questioned whether table service existed and my friend then went to the payment counter to place an order. A staff member then came to take our order. The food came out quickly and, with the exception to the garlic bread (which wasn't as crisp as I hoped to to be), was delicious. Unfortunately, that is the only nice thing I can really say. The staff forgot our drinks order and I had to go up to the counter to remind them of our drinks. Furthermore, when we asked for water we were told we needed to get it ourselves (no problem with that). The person who I was with went to the places were glasses were kept to pour water but there was nothing there. We didn't raise anything to the store because we didn't want to make a fuss. Eventually after a good 15 minutes someone managed to notice that glasses were missing/yet to be cleaned and replaced the supply. The next problem was that after filling one glass there wasn't enough water.... After that, we didn't need anymore "service" and the meal was okay. It's a shame that what could have been a lovely meal could easily be spoiled by the poor service. I might visit again, but I won't hold expectations too high for now.

Following the performances at Ashintosh Coffeehouse I, a fundraiser for the Ashintosh Foundation,…read morethe band and friends headed out to the city to grab some late night at Pancake Manor! I don't know if it's worth getting excited over, as my last experience here wasn't all that great... but it is the only place around open till late! I had the waffles with ice cream last time, and was not at all impressed. What they call Belgian waffles are a very thin waffle of inferior texture - and the blueberries I had with them were quite disappointing. I also had the basket of chips (5.5) last time, which was decent, but not great, as they weren't crispy on the outside, and a bit soggy on the inside. This time around, I was craving something salty, so I decided on the hash browns (6.5). They were burnt on both sides - which is usually a sign of a nice crunchy texture - but in this case, it meant an impressively hard to handle slab of potato. When I mean impressive, I mean it was hard to break apart, hard to pick up with a fork, and just unpleasant in general. I didn't know one could mess up hashed browns so terribly, but I suppose a place that opens 24 hours in Brisbane is one of a kind, and doesn't need to serve good food...

For those of you who have never had any of these before, imagine a thick pikelet sandwich with your choice of filling inside. It's toasted, it's hot, the batter is pretty much the same as what you would have if you ordered a crepe... you need to try one. I recommend the custard filled one, the green tea filled one, the chocolate one, the brioche like twists aren't the best, but you should try them anyway. You could easily snack on 3-4 they are so small. The one with peanuts is nice too... they have a million options to choose from so go crazy! If you're feeling a bit adventurous, they also sell cold buck wheat noodle packs... it's something that's very popular in china and asia... it's cold buck wheat noodles with cucumber and some garnish on the sides, with a vinegarette type sauce over the top. It's very appetizing... I haven't tried them here, but they're conveniently packed in the little display unit on the counter.

Clearly, I didn't do enough because a year later, the Garden City franchise shut down and I now have to go to Sunnybank Plaza for my hot cakes. It's well worth the trip though. These sweet battered cakes are piping hot thick pancakes with a variety of fillings inside. I like the taro, red bean or green tea although they do have more adventurous flavours such as coconut and corn. One pancake cost less than $1 and is the perfect afternoon snack. Personally, I think the price is a little cheap given they are actually pretty filling and tasty to boot.

I had bacon, hash browns and an egg, while she had an Aussie Sunrise: One egg, bacon & ham, 2 pancakes, banana and pineapple (not pictured). My plate was hearty, and the hash browns were well done the way I like them. Nonetheless, the food tasted just okay. I didn't finish my food. I ate one of her pancakes and it was rubbery. Regarding the ambiance, its whimsical here. I think it used to be a church. Unfortunately, table was pretty sticky. The service was friendly but leisurely. You have to get your own water, the waitress didn't check on us, and you pay up front. All in all, a cheaper experience vs bfast at Felix for Goodness. However, the latter has much better food and service.

The fruit they have to go with pancakes are in syrups/sweetened, and I asked whether I could just have fresh bananas -- and they were able to do that for me, which I appreciated. As others have written, they're understaffed so it does take a while to get served once being seated pretty immediately. But the server was very nice. I'll say, though, and this might be because of all the wood in the former church, it was just a little -- what's a good word? -- grungy? Grimy? Sticky? It wasn't filthy, but it just felt like I was eating in a college bar from the 1980s the morning after a kegger dance party. So decor/ambience, I'd go to no stars -- but for pancakes I'd give 'em 4 stars.
