This is our go-to place to take our Shiba, Scout to get groomed. The staff is so incredibly friendly here, and Scout never wants to leave this place when we come pick her up. She always leaves this place with an adorable little bandana and smelling so fresh and clean. I made the mistake of taking Scout to Petsmart before we started coming here, and not only did we get stuck with different groomers, but they weren't able to clip her nails. I just feel that if I'm going to a groomers, they should be able to clip her nails... not to mention the perfume sprayed is overbearing. I should also note that we took Scout Petsmart at least three times to get a proper assessment and of the 2/3 times they were unable to trim her nails. I did some research and took Scout to Pampered Pooch and despite us moving on the other side of SA, we still make the far drive over because that's how much we love coming here. Kate is so, so wonderful and always excitedly greets Scout when she comes here. Her nails are always nicely grind, and she's clean, trimmed and perfect! I took my furry wookie poodle Cookie there today... after not being groomed professionally in 8 weeks, Cookie was a hot mess. It takes time to find a regular groomer -- and we wanted to take our time and find the right one. I think we found her! We were greeted by warm and friendly people and I was happy to see that she had so many examples of poodles she had groomed and she actually had one on the table that she was grooming. It's been awhile since I've been a dog owner. A little over a year ago, an 80 pound 5 year old male pittie (that's pit bull awesomeness) needed a new home. I don't know what came over me but I just had to make him part of my life. Well, recently one of us had been developing a funky odor. Since I took a bath, I figured it might be him or my current love of eating steamed broccoli. Well, I'm not giving up that vegetable either so I decided he might be the source (it's a 50/50 call). I gave Kate's Pampered Pooch a ring and set up an appointment for this past Saturday. Pampered Pooch has no problem with large dogs and they did a great job on my buddy Rex. The odor was gone and he was so happy from his bath. Both he and I had our heads leaning out over different rolled down windows of my beater pickup truck as we headed back to where we started. Driving on the freeway, mouths open and tongues hanging out. We were a spectacle. I followed Kate's advice and washed his bedding so he won't pick up any odors from the blanket he's fond of sleeping on regularly. I'm so glad I brought him to Pampered Pooch! read more

Not your typical groomer review: I have a mixed terrier rescue with 3 legs. Those of you who had the pleasure of meeting Jackjack know that he is the boss. Period. Well for the first time in his 5 years of life he got shorn, groomed and smoothed head to tail. I really hesitate with giving with this place 2 stars. We've been here a few times now, and the cuts and service are definitely 5 stars. However, the last time I was there, I noticed that the groomers left a dog on the table to get a phone call. I'm a big proponent of safety and worry that one day it could be my own dog left on the table, and an accident could happen. The owner shaved my Yorkie to the point that his genitals are raw from razor burn. If you love your animal don't let him endure this type of cruelty. She did this once before but I decided to try and give the small business a second chance. I reminded her of my past concern and told her that he needed to look like a Yorkie. She reassured me that she would not repeat her past actions. Later when I arrived, she said" Oh I am so sorry! I have been so busy that I forgot and shaved him!" To do this to an animal is cruel especially at this time of year. Her mind was not on the welfare of my dog! There is no excuse for this type of maltreatment especially when you do it twice and call it a mistake. He looks like a chihuahua instead of a yorkie- she even shaved his ears. Don't follow directions very well. The intake person was very nice and seemed interested in getting done what I requested. Even heard her retell my instructions to another employee. When I stopped in thirty minutes after he was supposed to be ready, I was met with no eye contact and the curt news that he wasn't done yet and to give them another 45 minutes to an hour (It shouldn't take 4 hours to bathe and groom a 17 lb. dog..). Gave my dog a pretty bad haircut and surely didn't do what I asked. I paid (and tipped 20%!!) before I got him home and really looked at him. Also, he's been acting weird ever since he got back. I'm not alleging animal abuse but he never acted like this after getting groomed before. Won't be going back. read more

It's so painful to have to write this review. I took my assistance animal to Kate for 2 years with no complaints. Kate took on an assistant and I am almost sure she is the one that hurt my baby. I took her in for her regular grooming and when I picked her up she seemed very nervous and scared. Very unusual, she was usually happy and feeling good. When I got her home I noticed that she evidently had not been bathed. She had on her little bandanna, but had an awful smell, as if she had anal gland material all over her. She seemed to have problems eating, too. I opened her mouth and her 2 front bottom teeth were loose and falling out. She did not have dental disease, so I knew it wasn't that. That lead to one conclusion, whoever groomed her somehow loosened her teeth. I am on a very limited income, so there is no way I can afford to take her to a doggie dentist. What hurts the most is that I took her there. I am to blame for whatever awful experience she had to endure. She has a very, very sweet nature and is a small dog. She is a registered, trained service dog and wakes me if I stop breathing or have an abnormal breathing pattern at night. I am so blessed to have her and am sure she has saved my life many times. So, Kate, I hope you no longer have that assistant groomer at your salon. I am so sorry that we cannot return. I can no longer brag about how wonderful your salon is to family and friends. read more

Went here based on the reviews and was disappointed. My pooch came out with patches and a hair cut that looks like I could have done it. On top of that I over heard a worker on the phone saying they don't believe in rabies shots and doesn't require them. Now waiting for my pooches hair to grow out so I can take him to a better groomer. Don't waste your money here. read more

Pampered Pooch is way out of the way for me to drive to, but its totally worth it. I just moved from Austin the dog friendliest city full of a plethura of groomers so I was wary to try one here in SA but Pampered Pooch is where its at for my sweet little boy Zeppelin, a furry black maltipoo. He's a wiggler and frankly isn't a big fan of the grooming process. However, the groomer played with him before and got him feeling comfortable. I told her exactly how I wanted him to look and wasn't disappointed like I had been in the past at other grooming salons that I paid high dollar and received less than stellar service. Pampered Pooch is affordable $35 for my pup which didn't break the bank however gave my baby the pampering he deserved. When I picked him up, he was running around and playing with the other dogs and the groomers. Love this place! read more

This review is long overdue. I typically don't yelp unless I have a really good, or really bad, experience. I've been taking my 2 year old, 13-pound, male shih tzu, Tex, to the Pampered Pooch the past 1.5 years. Staff: Kate and the other lady (same one the past 1.5 years, so she is experienced) are wonderful. They consistently know how to style Tex's hair and the drop off/pick up is expedient. I always receive a phone call/voicemail when Tex is ready to be picked up. Quality/Skill: Tex is not a docile pup and he is not shy about expressing it. Despite that, Kate is able to handle/groom Tex in a way that I could only dream of. He is fully bathed, smelling delicious, trimmed (with those cute mitten paw style) and she magically somehow is also able to trim all around his eyes and nose (for a smush face dog this is hard!). I typically ask for the "teddy bear" look and Kate is able to cut his hair like this consistently. I have never seen a nick/cut on Tex after he comes back from Kate. Equipment: Clearly, Kate and her staff have the correct equipment to properly groom pets. They have specific pet grooming tables with the extending arms, which include a loop leash to keep your pet centered on the table. Avoids any dogs flying off the tables! Every time I have come in to pick up Tex and Kate/staff are working on another dog, they remove the dog from the table and place the dog in a kennel. This is very important because this avoids unnecessary accidents! Location: Centrally located off Huebner Road in a shopping center. Now there is a pet supply store right next door, so you may be able to run other pet errands at the same time. The store is clean, organized and spacious. Price: For full bath, cut, nail trim, anal glands expressed I think it's ~$50, but I always leave a handsome tip, so I typically walk out paying about $65. For the quality, convenience and assurance that my dog is treated well I think this price is very fair. Last Note: I saw a review from someone upset that the dog was shaved down quite a bit. Just keep in mind, that any groomer can certainly comb and comb and comb through knots and matts, but this is really not comfortable for your dog. Having a shih tzu, if I go too long between haircuts, his hair is bound to get matted. Rather than put him through the discomfort of the dematting, I'd prefer his hair just be cut short. This is easily avoided by me taking him in more frequently, so really it's my own fault! Will update this review with pics of Tex looking freshy freshy since he's at the Pampered Pooch today! read more

I"ve been to a few groomers here in San Antonio. Some were great, but the groomers were horrible with customer service. Here at Kate's Pampered Pooch - they do a great job with grooming my 2 Coton de Tulears. I've never been disappointed in the services I've paid for - which is actually very reasonably priced here. Kate is always very friendly and helpful. Only downsides to this place: they close right at 5 so I have to make adjustments with my work schedule, but it's not a big deal. It's hard to get in touch with her on the phone since they're only open I think from 7 - 5? and i think it's just her and one other groomer so if they're both busy, no one answers the phones. read more
