I'm in Maryland but he doesn't have any family nearby so I am the next best thing. I didn't know how to go about looking for someone. I called a couple of home care agencies but they were expensive and was not sure what we were getting for $25 to $27 an hour. When i looked online there were many different ways to go and I was a bit overwhelmed. So I went on Yelp which i periodically due for restaurants and such. I was surprised that LeanOnWe jumped at me. The reviews were strong and they were varied. At first I didn't realize that they were any different than the home care agencies. Then i realized that they weren't an agency but just a way for me to connect with someone that my uncle would end up hiring. Very clever. Since my uncle would be hiring the caregivers, it was meaningfully less expensive but would give us everything we were looking for. So I called up and told LeanOnWe what my uncle was dealing with, where he lives, and what he was looking for. They sent bios of 5 people who fit the bill, my uncle and i spoke to two of them on the phone and decided to hire one of them. It worked out great. What a creative way for us to manage this process. We would have been stuck otherwise. So far the woman we chose has been working for about three weeks and all is working well. It is nice knowing that if she can't make it we can always go back to LeanOnWe and find someone else. A happy customer

The caregiver constantly manipulates the family against each other in order to get his way. Every time I try to replace him the agency interferes and ignores my requests even though I am the one hired them and I am the one who pays the caregiver who I dislike immensely. I should not have to be a situation where I am forced to keep a caregiver that I dislike. They don't return my phone calls and they ignore my requests to get a different caregiver. Instead of working with me to replace this caregiver who has created an extremely toxic environment, the agency will go behind my back and reach out to another family member who has very little to do with the caregiving, is easily manipulated and it results in arguments about replacing the caregiver. I don't want a caregiver who is only in it for the money and who does not have patients wellbeing in mind. I constantly have to step in and make sure the patient is being cared for. I should be allowed to replace a caregiver that I have no trust in. The caregiver should not be in charge and the agency should not be in charge. Thay have made a difficult situation even more difficult by pitting family members against each other. I dislike them immensely. Be careful

With that being said: my experience with VNS was absolutely discouraging for our health care system/provider. My father came home for (home hospice) on a Thursday afternoon. The assessment nurse was kind: however I say this respectfully..I couldn't understand what she was saying because she had a heavy accent. She went over his medication and assessed his body, took pictures of wounds etc. she did not do vitals or anything. (I don't know if that was a requirement) We were not provided with any medicine or supplies. Not even a little starter kit until something came in the mail. Friday My dad was having labored breathing. I called the 212-609-1920 and they advised me to give him some morphine. Ummmm with what you guys don't give us anything. NO INSTRUCTIONS. NOTHING. I had to call 911 - he was unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital on Friday afternoon and passed away early Saturday morning. My recommendation: DON' T USE THIS SERVICE!!!!! I am going all the way to the top with this complaint. I won't rest until I get proper ethical change with the company. It won't be about money. This is about PRINCIPLE.

When the owner, Ann, called she was just as unfriendly as the nameless entity that represents her business. Ann told me, quite rudely, after i laid out that i wanted someone to come to my grandmothers home 3 days a week for 4 hours a day, That the time i needed someone to watch my grandmother was not worth it to the caretakers and if i couldnt bump the time up to at least 6 hours a day no one would take the job and it would be a 'revolving door of caretakers'. I understand what she was saying, but she reduced my elderly grandmother, that i care deeply about, to a job and a job that isnt worth it to the people she chose to surround herself with and represent her brand. I cannot figure out how am i supposed to trust Ann enough to have someone she chose watch my grandmother, largely unsupervised, when she cant even get it together enough to sound slightly kind at all over the phone. Speaking to her offended me, made me feel like i was imposing on her, and also like my grandmother was too burdensome for Ms. Ann without a larger payout. Not feelings that made my heart smile about handing thousands of dollars to her. If Evergreen choice's over the phone service is so unfriendly and brusque i cant imagine their caretakers are much kinder. Not the sort of people i would want looking after my freaking grandmother. Whatever entity on behalf of evergreen choice answered their phone needs to be retrained and Ann needs to take a hard look at her branding strategy. The way to get people to pay you is NOT to tell them that the person they care about isnt worth it or lucrative enough for you. Meanie.
