Ever since Izzi was just a pup...I could easily tell when she was unhappy upon leaving with her where I took her to be groomed. Fortunately, it is obvious to me if she had been mis-treated. After several trial appointments, we found a wonderful, loving groomer in Florida - but now living in South Carolina, it took us a few times, but we found Jen's Ocean Drive Pet Grooming. Reasonable rates with excellent full service performed. The best part.... My Izzi is THRILLED when she sees Marissa. She shows me no signs of fear and she is absolutely beautiful when I pick her up. I can't say enough great things about their service. We have been going here for 1 year.

After I had received the message saying that she was ready to be picked up, I went to get her but nobody came out, I yelled "Excuse me" a couple of times and even opened the little gate and knocked on the door, The dogs started barking, and one of the ladies looked up ( because you can see through the door that the lady) She looked up and went about her business. The point is that none of those three ladies could answer me saying something like "we're coming, or we will be there surely with you " nothing, I got completely ignored. My husband called and explained the situation and the Ladie just laugh in the phone and said.... "Oh yeah" ...... what kinda of customer service is that!!

She was very understanding and even gave me directions over the phone. When I got there she was very accommodating. We told her Bella does NOT like getting groomed. She had her "comfort" medicine. She acknowledged and told us it would take about an hour and a half. When we came back Bella was excited to see us playing with other dogs and looked happy. Debbie said she was a "challenge" but would take her back anytime. I love the atmosphere at sandy paws and the fact that my pet is not caged up all day. Praise be!

After getting him home I noticed he had difficulty walking, he had clipper burns on his belly and he was bleeding. In addition, his inside ear area was not done and toe hair not cut. Before going I asked if I would be able to speak to the girl grooming my dog and was told yes. When…read moreI arrived, the owner said the groomer was her daughter and she had a long day, had to get something to eat so just let her know what I wanted done with my dog and she would relay it. I said cut about 1/2 off since winter is coming so she still has fur and cutout the 3 little mats if she can't comb them out. She asked if I wanted her tail kept long and I said YES. I came back in 2 1/2 hrs later for my 5 lb dog and my poor doggie was shaved to the bone with her tail and ears chopped short. The woman insisted that she was not shaved. There was no hair left on her that you could comb or grab. I call that shaved. I will never let anyone touch her again without meeting the actual groomer (which of course, I thought I was going to meet). Needless to say, neither of us were happy. Now she's shivering and ever since this, she is not eating like she used to. She used to wolf down her food; now she starts to eat, then backs up, plops her bottom down and looks around like something is scareing her. I don't know what they did, but there's something that is now inscribed in her little head that she can't seem to forget. It's infortunate that I had a bad experience because they were highly recommended.

Before we did that we went down and talked to Lisa the new owner and her husband Troy. They spent a good time just talking to us about the facility and Lisa's background and philosophy on dog boarding. She has an extensive background in dog behavior training. She also managed a shelter in upstate New York for over ten years (I believe). We then were taken on a walk through the facility. The dog runs were clean. The dogs that were in the runs had clean water. The outside area is amazing. The dogs have people to play with. Lisa is all about stimulation for the dogs. You really need to see the facility to appreciate it. When we went to pickup our boys appeared to be just fine. She spent extra time with one of our boys who is a bit timid around strangers and you can tell she took it as a personal challenge to get him to relax. We will be going back and have even talked about bringing our boys down for day stays a couple of times a week.
