First class seats were just a couple of bucks more than the second class seats so we splurged and bought those. I was so angry at my husband because he was the reason we were late for our train, and his mistake ended up costing us 6 hours in Prague as well as $160 more, but this lounge helped ease the tensions because it was a quiet place to wait for the next train. This cute little lounge is modern and peaceful. You ride an elevator to get up to the lounge, which has big glass panels and sweeping views of the train station below. The gatekeeper woman was a bit gruff and unfriendly, but she checked our tickets and opened the door for us. Inside there are plenty of comfy, modern seats. You can read a local newspaper and enjoy a small spread of snacks (pickings are slim, think biscotti and small crackers) and bottled water, juices, canned sodas, and an espresso maker. There are huge screens that keep you updated on your trains so no worries about missing them. This is a nice little perk for those holding first class train tickets. We were in there with two other people, obvious businessmen who were working on their laptops.

It's mainly uninspired and more suited to a highway rest stop than to an inner city dinner place. Let me elaborate: a Gordon Bleu that is not juicy inside and that has not a crispy breading is just sad and disappointing. Tichy's ice cream dumplings which are delicious sitting on a thick layer of cheap jam is similarly disappointing. I am wiring this to hopefully inspire the owners, who undoubtedly love their restaurant, and can rightly be proud of running it, to level up their cuisine. We were seated inside immediately (our choice; the weather was certainly nice enough to enjoy an outside table), offered a beverage (we chose an Austrian Riesling; troken, or dry) and bottled water. After perusing the menu for but a few moments, we settled on Wiener schnitzel. We'd seen the huge portion served to other tables and decided to split one. Served with a side of German-style potato salad, it was plenty. I'd never had Wiener schnitzel before, though I knew some places sell a pork cutlet which they call Wiener schnitzel. Kanzleramt had both on the menu, so we knew we were getting the one made of veal and not some pretender to the title. Otherwise, though, I wasn't 100% sure what to expect. When it arrived, my wife and I doused our portions with fresh lemon juice, then cut into the tenderest, crispiest entree we could possibly imagine. Perhaps because of its location in a heavily touristed area, our server checked back more often than we've come to expect in Europe, where meals are much social events than the refueling stops in the U.S. and Canada. Still, we didn't feel rushed and were able to resume our wanderings promptly, well satisfied by our delightful sit-down lunch in the midst of Vienna's frenetic old town. And at the very reasonable price of €50 including tip. Highly recommended!

Chay fuera is not worth the effort.
