Esquite corn, Elote in a cup!
    Lace F.

Today was a bitterly cold day so naturally we took our kids out for ice cream. I had heard about this little shop that had some unique offerings in addition to your usual suspects and we were not at all disappointed! They had a wide array of Hershey's ice cream flavors to choose from and for the baby I went with a small cup of banana pudding which was plenty enough for the two of us to share for less than $2. For my big girl, she got a medium with half pistachio and half cotton candy and she quite enjoyed. I believe her cup was under $3. My husband and I being a tad more adventurous, I chose the chocoflan and he chose the esquite, basically Elote corn in a cup! So much easier and neater to eat with all the same flavors. My chocoflan was consumed on a rapid rotation of each person demanding yet another bite because it was so delicious- I would absolutely get that again, maybe two so I actually get my whole slice, and try the regular flan as well! He also chose the diablitos drink in mango- a blend of mango juice with chiles and topped with fresh mango with a straw just coated to the gills in chili powder. I found it too spicy because I am a wimp, he found it super interesting and delicious. We sat in the car to eat and watched other people come and go and compiled our list for our next visit. Are we the only people who actively plan our future meals while eating one? I hope not.. They have a really cool looking walking nacho kind of thing with various chips, beautiful and impressive towers of fruits, lots of vibrant and colorful drinks... I seriously considered a trip back inside before we drove away but I decided to restrain myself until next time, and there will certainly be a next time! This is the wonderful kind of unique shop that really needs our community support right now- special and memorable, high quality and extremely affordable. Everything we had came to a very reasonable $17!

Ethnic. Legit. Awesome. That's how I would describe this little spot off Clemmonsville Rd. I got the esquites and diablitos with mango. Authentic flavor of elote corn minus the mess of eating it off the cob. Diablitos did need a bit extra mixing, but nice mix of chili lime seasoning with mango fruit cut up and a chili lime mango gummy wrapped around the straw for good measure. Delightful! My wife got the flan chocolate cake which was absolutely delicious, and she is not usually a big fan of flan. I think now she understands though! The kids both got ice creams that tasted excellent quality as well. All that for $17 with tax! Friendly people in there too, makes you feel extra good about supporting local on top of it all! Only thing to note is the parking lot is tiny and can be a bit sketchy getting out, so be careful so you don't spill your treats all over the car!

Excellent experience. I don't speak much Spanish but this place was very accessible and friendly! My son loves his watermelon fruit bar--it was HUGE and only cost $1. We also found a real watermelon seed in the fruit bar--how authentic is that? I got a vanilla bar dipped in chocolate with coconut shavings for $1.75--really good. Would l to try the other menu items that include more fresh fruit (there were a ton of options!) We'll be back. Also, convenient: transactions were handled on a Square register with easy options for receipts.

If you are looking for the flavor swirl, the machine is broken. Tried to call and see if it was working again but got hung up on twice.

Housed in a former Coca-Cola bottling plant, Grandpa Joe's pays homage to the site's history through its red and black décor. The menu offers salads, floats, and soft serve though pizza is the star attraction. It is served by the rectangular slab (about $8 per). Order at the counter, grab a number for your table, and wait for the oven to work its magic. For our first visit, my wife and I split a trio of slabs -- an Italian sausage, a mushroom, and a tomato and burrata -- with a side of marinara. All three were excellent. The focaccia crusts were crispy while still retaining airiness. From melty mozzarella to savory, fennel-forward sausage, Grandpa Joe's uses high-quality ingredients. The marinara was good: bright, fresh, and just a bit sweet. The mushroom slab came topped with arugula and shaved parmesan. Despite seeming like a gimmick (pizza? Salad? Why not both?), it proved an effective combination: the arugula's bitterness played well with the mushrooms' earthy flavors. There will be a certain type of pizza connoisseur for whom anything that isn't New York style is, by definition, fraudulent. For those with horizons broad enough to enjoy a thicker crust, Grandpa Joe's is the best of that kind that I've found in the Triad.

Their current soft serve flavor is raspberry and it's so good! The service is always friendly and fast. We usually have our dogs with us so we've never eaten inside before. This time, we sat upstairs and it was a great spot. Being upstairs helped block out some of the noise as they got busier which made for a really nice, relaxing meal.
