So we booked a table and decided to give it a whirl on a Monday night. The tasting menu was five courses for £25 (£45 with wine pairings). The other half was a bit dubious about the prices, and thought it just couldn't be good given the prices on the menu. Well, we get in and decide to start with a Bellini (which turned out to be strawberry and VERY tasty). We got the tasting menu with wine pairings. The first course was sweet and sour pig cheeks with udon noodles. It was absolutely brilliant. Everything was tasty, and we were pleasantly surprised. The next course was a mackerel fillet with a smoked mackerel potato cake. The third course was a hake fillet with crab bisque and a crab and ginger wonton. Amazing. Absolutely amazing. The fish was cooked well, the bisque was rich and creamy, and the wonton was crispy and delicious. The fourth course was chicken wrapped in spinach and parma ham with sweet potato tagliatelle and chorizo. I expected this course to be dry and overcooked (because it's so easy to do that with chicken), but instead it was perfectly cooked and everything was magnificent. One of the better chicken dishes I've had in awhile. Finally we had a deconstructed cheesecake with strawberries and strawberry sorbet. Very good! The wine was also good, but the pairings didn't necessarily make sense (but for £45 for the tasting and wine pairings, I'm not really complaining that much). We decided to end the evening by ordering cheese and port. The cheeses were great. We were honestly shocked and surprised at how amazing the meal turned out. The other half even commented to the waitress that the food was great, and that he was surprised that the tasting menu wasn't more expensive. When we're back in the area, I'm sure we'll go back in. There were things on the menu that looked amazing that we didn't get to try because they weren't on the tasting menu. I can't recommend this place enough. If you're in Falmouth, you should definitely go here.

I ordered the stake filet (£24) pretty pricy, and an okay stake, I got very little chips. When I asked for ketchup the waiter gave me the ketchup cup she gave another person from my party and gave me a spoon and says to get some before she gave it back to him. I also witnessed for the first time a waiter drink the leftovers of the wine glass she got from another table. All in all it felt like a regular restaurant trying too hard to be an expensive one. It want bad, but too pricy thus only three stars.

Fish and Chips is a staple in British cuisine. I've always heard that the coast is the place to go…read morefor Fish and Chips. I've also heard that the North does it best (although the one time I had it up there, I wasn't that impressed). A friend told me that if I was in Cornwall, I should go to Rick Stein's restaurant because he does his fish and chips in the traditional style which is fried in beef drippings. So on our trip to Falmouth, I thought that we were going to have to drive out to his restaurant in order to try these fish and chips I've heard so much about. Luckily, Rick Stein has opened a place in Falmouth so it was easy to go and try. They don't take reservations, but we walked in around 7:00 pm on a Saturday night, and while it was busy, it wasn't full so we managed to get a seat at the window. I ordered crab salad as a starter and the other half ordered salt and pepper prawns. We both ordered cod and chips. He raved about his the flavor of his prawns, and my crab was incredibly tasty. Then came the fish and chips. For something deep fried in beef drippings the batter was light and crisp. The fish was incredibly tasty, and the homemade tartare sauce was so amazing we had to order some extra! The wine list was a bit lacking, but we found a nice Petit Chablis to have with our fish. This is by far the best fish and chips I've had to date. If you're ever in the area (or you're in the Padstow area where his other restaurants are), I highly recommend having the fish and chips!

The atmosphere and service are great and there is a peekaboo view of the harbour from all the seats. The food was great, but my son can't stop raving about the fish and chips he got from the chippie at the harbour in Mevagissey.
