After being raised in Brooklyn and having the best pizza in the world the military has taken me everywhere and trying to find a good pizza place equivalent to what I'm used to here in Lakeland was difficult. However after ordering here Palace Pizza has hit it out the park for me. We had the Neapolitan pizza with pepperoni and tomatoes and it was delicious. The baked ziti reminded me of NY with lots of melting cheese and ricotta and delicious handmade meatballs. We also dined in and the meatball appetizer was superb. The veggie pizza was very good; it would have been even better if it had been hot. Maybe it was my bad for getting it to go. I mean, it was warm; it just wasn't burn my lips, give me a blister hot. Oh I didn't mention that? Yeah, I want my pizza and my coffee to almost scald me, burn the hair off my tongue, and it didn't do that, but HAVING SAID THAT, the taste of the veggie was spot on. I've never had eggplant on a pizza and that may be my new favorite thing. Ever. I'll give it a try again for sure. Maybe up this score from four to five stars then. The thin pizza was worth it, although the cheese was falling off the pie. We tried the garlic rolls full of butter and the garlic bread sticks and both were only warm and were either drenched in butter or had no taste at all. They were at both extremes. The knots are worth a treat every once in awhile they are covered in butter. All the Palace Pizza locations are worth eating at. My husband and I recently moved to this area. I actually found this place because we were looking up close pizza shops that had the best reviews. This one had the highest reviews so we decided to check it out and placed an order for delivery. That was about a month ago. Since then we order here a lot. The delivery drivers are always great and fast, it's a joy to have them deliver! We came to the restaurant for a sit down meal a few days ago and absolutely loved it! The environment, the food and service are all amazing. The pizza is amazing and as close to NY pizza as you're gonna get! The taste is the best I've had. The wings are cooked perfectly! Crunchy on the outside, light, fluffy and juicy on the inside. The garlic knots are to die for, crunchy and fluffy! Everyone we interacted with were nice and welcoming. We have always loved this place and have been getting food from here for over 14 years now. We have not used them in a little while because of our own personal situation however wanted to treat ourselves so we splurged last night and ordered some take out. They always had authentic Italian food and was delicious and the staff was friendly and professional. Unfortunately it appears they have changed. Our pick up order was not what we ordered and was not up to their normal high standards on quality. When I called to explain the situation they did not appear to care about the errors in the order or the quality of the food. We will not be going back until I hear they have returned to themselves. My second favorite pizza place in the area. The pies are really good, however they never seem to ring up my order the same and every time. I ask for a large I arrive to an extra large and a couple more dollars than I expected. It's really no big deal, but some people can't afford something they didn't ask for. Also, when you have an option to order online the in store price should match the online price which is the reason I started noticing the variances. Anyway, other than the small hiccup with a couple dollar variance on a few occasions the pizza is delicious. A little greasy but it's pizza so not really a deal breaker. The XL pizza is HUGE. I have no idea how this place consistently gets great reviews. Three years ago I bought 2 restaurant.com certificates. Used one then, pizza was not good. So bad in fact, that the other $15 certificate sat on my phone for 3 years. Tried it again. CANNED mushrooms? Breaded fried EGGPLANT on pizza? YUCK! The menu lists your choice of five items but they don't ask you and if want other things, chances are they don't have it (spinach, artichoke). Full garlic cloves, green pepper, onion, frozen broccoli bits, canned mushrooms, and fried eggplant is what comes on it. YUCK! I spent $40 (including the $15 certificate) on 2 pizzas and the meat lovers was only okay and the vegetarian was absolutely awful. Awful. At $20 for the vegetarian and only 2 pieces were eaten, those 2 because we had to try it. I have never been more disappointed than I was here. If this is "authentic" from anywhere, I never want to go there for pizza. It was all soggy, very little sauce and cheese, just not good. First, I must say this place has the best pizza by far, now with that said, I ordered a Calzone last week this time instead. I got the combination, just meatballs instead of pepperoni. It was made correctly and in the time specified. But...I paid $9.00+ for cooked pizza dough, and the garlic, butter and cheese topping was sparse on top, it would have help get the pizza dough down if it would have had more. I don't expect a overstuffed sloppy Calzone, but this was ridiculous. I have had several issues in the past, and it is always when the owners are not there, this also seemed to be the case this time too! Wow! Delicious NY style pizza! I'm a New Yorker and have had some amazing pizza! This taste just like NY pizza! I wish the place was a little bigger though. The inside dinning area is very small and with just a few families dinning in can make it feel very crowded! But they do have a couple of other locations in the area. A mark of true NY style pizza you can fold the pizza slice and it holds, exactly how Palace Pizza's pizza is. Pizza is very good by polk county standards. But it ends there. Their meals are very sub-standard. You can tell they sell frozen items. Meatballs are tasteless and tough and super small. $4 for five tiny meatballs in a sauce that tastes as its from a can. Barely any sauce in spaghetti. But spaghetti was well Boiled. What a rip off and disappointment. I've had chicken Parm, lasagna, baked ziti, and Alfredo. Same for all dishes. And the Alfredo is very obviously a canned sauce! Greasy, pasty, salty and repulsive. For these prices cooked food should be fresh and much better quality. I have seen them make the cannolis. The shells come in a box. The cannoli cream comes in prepackaged food service bags. None of it is fresh. All the friendly service in the world could not make up for the bad food. read more
