The door was open and the chef was in the dining room. It is early but ypu come and be my guests! He said. It was a sunny afternoon and he set up a table for us on the sidewalk. Thank you Restaurant Zina for a memorable meal.

It was fresh with crispy bacon bits but also some fancy little fish roe. Yum! A perfect start to the meal. Our second starter was the beef tartan - also nice. I almost forgot what I had decided for main as I was so wrapped up in my delicious entree experience. My main was probably a sweet potato tart with haloumi. The sweet potato was mixed with sweet spices. My friend and I could not quite pick the spice and the chef couldn't tell me the blend. All I can say is it was delicious. We had a nice fresh white wine to accompany our meal. We were too full to have dessert on this occasion but I did get a take away dessert another time which was an amazing white chocolate mousse with a poached white peach. This was delightful. I was guttered this time to be too full to dessert again.

We were seated at the same time as the two tables next to us. They were done with their desserts by the time we got our main dishes. We waited for just over an hour, which is slow even by European standards. Even without the long wait, food was just so-so. Not horrible, but I wouldn't recommend this place if you are visiting Amsterdam.

I noticed the price of this dish (6.50 EU) to be more expensive than your typical krocket, so I was thinking this dish would be something different or really good! What I got was really 2 krockets on top of bread with mustard and a small side salad....it wasn't a problem at all...and for that price it was fine. The food was delicious! My dad got a fish sandwich (macreal) w/ a beer. Service was fine and the food for the price was worth it. Definitely a nice place w/ a corner location; great for people watching!

We ordered 3 dishes and shared: Italian burger, rib eye, and pasta with prawns. The waiter was extremely nice and helped translate everything in English for us since the menus are in Dutch. The portions were big! The Italian burger was juicy and had tons of flavor. The rib eye was enormous and good quality but it needed salt which we added ourselves. The highlight was the pasta. It had tons of shrimp, fresh greens, and the sauce was light and aromatic (amazing olive oil). I definitely recommend coming here while visiting Utrecht. Prices are also very reasonable (we spent under 70 euros for 3 people).

Many, many years ago, back in the UK I used to listen to a radio DJ called John Peel. While…read morelistening to him, I heard a song for the first time from a little known American artist called Prince. I was hooked, and bought an album (Dirty Minds and then 1999) and when later Prince became famous, I could smugly say to my friends "I knew about him long before you did." Which brings me to the subject of today's review. La Vina, who like Prince back in the day are not as famous as they deserve to be. The first time I visited La Vina, I was surprised by how friendly and helpful the staff working there were. I was also impressed by the price quality ratio which was very good indeed. Three years later, I'm pleased to say that La Vina has not only maintained the quality of its service and food but has even improved. If you're the kind of person that has to sit on a terrace even if it's minus 11 outside, then you'll love La Vina as they have a nice terrace, which catches the sun on the rare days it shows up in the Netherlands. Incredibly, they can serve you drinks efficiently without the usual, well worn excuse of "it's very busy on the terrace today, so that's why it takes longer." If you're a wine lover, they have a spectacular wine list, and I recommend taking one of their flights of wine. The food remains tasty and offers great value for money, and the actual ambience and interior of the place is like the Shallow Man, very chic indeed. ;) Whether you're looking to impress the denim pants off a Dutch date, hold a business dinner or tell your other half that she needs to take her Ugg boots and move out. La Vina is the perfect place. Stylish, great food and a wine list that will bring tears of joy to your eyes. A hidden gem in the Maasstraat that's well worth a visit.
