What makes it even better is that this is truly a family affair. Mom and Dad are working the grill while the kids help take care of everything else. This isn't a fancy chain or some overhyped restaurant--it's the kind of small, family-run place you hope to stumble across and then can't wait to tell other people about. Places like this are what make exploring local restaurants so much fun. Great food, great people, and a genuine family atmosphere. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Let me first say the portions are great and the woman working the window was very nice. Unfortunately, I just was not impressed by the overall flavor of the tacos. Maybe it's just me, but these were very different from other taco joints I have frequented. Locally and out of town. The Biiria tacos had a texture and flavor more like a pot roast, the Al Pastor were probably the best out the bunch, but still just OK in my opinion. The chicken had a strange spice in it, I can't put my finger on what it was, but I didn't particularly like it. I didn't try the fried pork tacos personally.

There was a bright cilantro sauce, a spicy one that was pleasantly mild, and a mayo-ketchup blend that rounded things out nicely. The tacos were delicious and packed with flavor. They were also full tacos-they weren't stingy with the meat! Service was a standout too! Our waiter was warm and attentive throughout. We were excited to try the horchata, but they'd sold out by the time we ordered. I think it would be worth asking about early if you're set on trying it. The space itself is open and inviting, with a mix of bar seating and high-top tables. The food also came out pretty quickly.

I didn't see an alcohol menu so I took a chance and grabbed a bottle of wine to take along. It was busy enough on a Friday evening but not a full restaurant. Too busy for one server doing all front of house duties though. I don't think this restaurant or the last occupant have done anything to the interior space although there were less tables in the lower dining room. The menu is large but not descriptive. On a day when the server isn't getting slammed I get the feeling that he'd love to offer verbal descriptions but during our visit it was not going to happen. Anyway, on to the food which was all quite good. The sauces were the star for me. Birria empanadas (GF) were excellent. That Birria consommé was worth the entire trip! The carnitas tacos were flavorful with generous portions. The mofongo platter was huge. Needless to say, we have enough leftovers for another few meals. It's worth a visit.

On entering there were a small number of booths and some tables. It was lunch time and I expected the place to be hopping, but patronage was steady. We were brought the requisite complimentary salsa and chips. Both were acceptable with the salsa having a slight kick. We ordered an unsweet tea and a raspberry tea. They looked to come from a fountain dispenser but I found it nicely brewed and was offered a refill. The menu was extensive with a lengthy list of lunch specials. I asked to substitute a green chicken chili enchilada for a cheese enchilada and was refused. This is the sole reason for taking away a star. I ended up with 2 cheese enchiladas with a sweet green chili sauce. The rice and beans were both very nice. The enchiladas were tasty. The total for both meals and 2 teas with tax was, wait for it... $21! Yes, just $21 so I ended up tipping just over 30%. The tip went into a tip jar I guess they will split. We were attended by 3 servers, all very nice and attentive.
