Once you walk in you place your order a self order kiosk and take a seat as you wait for your food. I ordered a Patacon Especial which is Shredded chicken, fresh tomatoes, avocado, coleslaw and cheese on green plantains crostini and added a side of spicy salsa. The filling was savory not overtly salty or over sauced. The green plantains were perfectly fried to a crisp. Service was friendly and inviting. Authentically Venezuelan. Would definitely come again.

El Maíz is a hidden gem in Rome--hands down one of the best casual meals I've had here. If you're…read morecraving something different from Italian food, this place delivers big time. The arepas were absolutely . I tried the Reina Pepiada and the Sifrina, and both were incredible--fresh, flavorful, and packed generously. You can tell everything is made with care, and the food came out hot and fresh. What really stood out though was the hospitality. It's a family-owned spot, and Fabrizio (the son) was extremely kind, respectful, and welcoming. That kind of service makes a big difference. Simple place, real food, great people. I'll definitely be back.

Americans beware. This is simply not authentic Mexican food. It is Mexican inspired Italian food…read more We ordered the queso fundido as an appetizer, and it was very thick and hard to eat. The tortillas were flour, and warm but not cooked on a comal. The nachos de chili were a very strange combination of flavors and heaps of sour cream on it. Chili doesn't belong on Mexican nachos. I only ordered it thinking it was "chile con carne." The carnitas tacos were cooked in onions and very mushy which is not typical of crispy, fried carnitas. The service was rushed and the servers appeared stressed, perhaps in training. The place itself is cute and well decorated. Maybe this is good food for Italians, but for Americans who want Mexican food on vacation, I cannot recommend.

The ambiance was great as the played Latin American rock tunes from the 80s. Gave the place a real atmosphere home feel. We highly recommend Papas a La Huancaina, el civiche de pescado and the lomo saltado. So delicious! Can not be missed.
