Kristen is very nice and personable. She loves her town and told me about the state park and the hot springs. They also have buffalo there and I saw a couple of deer too. I stayed in a dbl queen room with a wall separating the beds. Both beds were very hard and the pillows were flat. The bedspreads were the old fashioned polyester type and the blanket was also polyester. I woke in the middle of the night freezing. No warm air coming out of the heater. I used pillows to cover my legs. I woke at 6 and my room smelled bad sort of like cat pee. I decided to wash my face and brush my teeth and get dressed and left. I would k no it recommend this place but Kristen is super sweet. Stay at your own risk. read more

This was the best, friendliest staff I have encountered in a long time! I arrived late, with no reservation, a single female traveler with 2 dogs, and the owners were responsive, welcoming, and charming to interact with. They were helpful with things to do in town, where to eat, places to visit. I am SO HAPPY I ended up here. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and had the amenities I needed. Very clean rooms at a discount! I saw the owner (who checked me in) cleaning the rooms himself. I saw his hard work trying to make it as an owner-operator in competition with bigger chain motels. I was a little concerned at first, just judging by outward appearances (which can sometimes inform our choices). But once we saw the room itself, we knew we'd made the right choice. Don't let the paint job scare you off. This place is great! read more

This was a great little hotel. We arrived at about 10:30 and the office was closed, but there was a button to push after hours and the owner cheerfully came out and checked us in. Our room was very clean and newly remodeled. It had new everything (tile, carpet, bathroom fixtures, etc). It still smelled new in there. The room was very affordable as well. It was about 1/2 the price of the Days Inn down the street. I would definitely recommend the Paintbrush Inn. read more

We stayed at the Painbrush Inn for two days in July 2018 and LOVED it. We had the suite #21. It was clean with big room and a perfectly outfitted sit-in kitchen. The wifi was ultrafast, the fastest from all our hotel stays on this two week car trip vacation. The location is great as you have a supermarket across the street and it is not far from downtown where you can get vegan food (yes Tater Cowgirl could survive in Thermopolis) at the Thai Bangkok and the One-Eyed Buffalo Burger restaurant. The Dinosaur Museum and the hotsprings are only a few driving minutes away. The best of this Paintbrush Inn is the friendliness of the family who operates this hotel. We will book it again any time we are in the area. They also don't charge you an arm and a leg which is great for families. Wyoming rocks! Tourist brochures claim this property has "ADA" compliant and newly remodeled rooms. They just don't say which rooms, or when. The two rooms I saw were neither, and they were not restful. Beds comfortable, but that's all I can give a good review to. Found toothpick and lint on floor, trash and crud in pullout bed, and was concerned about lack of safety lock on door. Skip this one. If this is your only option in Thermopolis, go ahead to Cody, Worland or Riverton. read more

Don't believe clean rooms. The cleaning staff didn't make the bed, dishes in the kitchenette were dirty and used shampoo packets were left behind. They were kind enough to leave a note to let us know we had to make the futon but they didn't clean anything else. Carpet had stains and towels seemed mismatched and dirty. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here. For the price, you really get a good deal. We rolled in around 5 p.m. and they were able to get us into a 2 room hotel with 2 beds, a kitchen, couch, 2 TVs and a bathroom. Granted, the decor is outdated but in a small, remote town, this is to be expected. With a dog we paid $65. That's unheard of. Also the owners are so incredibly friendly and welcoming, you feel right at home. The Hot Springs State Park was relaxing and fun and the Dinosaur Museum was super interesting. Thermopolis is a hidden gem. read more

Shower didn't work so the rude manager let us use the shower of another dirty room and that one didn't work either. She suggested we shower at the hot springs. My girlfriend and I stayed at the paintbrush in for one night. We were in a hurry the next day to leave and forgot a couple items in the room. One of which was a portable cell phone charger. I called them by 3:00 the next day. The lady sounded like she knew exactly what I was talking about and said she would call me back. I called later that evening to see about the charger I left. She was very angry and told me a ton of people have been in and out of that room and she had no idea what I was talking about. I truly believe they stole it. And the fact that she said a ton of people have been in and out of the room since we stayed there ( left that morning) makes sense since the place had a cheap feel to it and felt dirty. ONE STAR...ONLY BECAUSE THREE IS NOT A NEGATIVE RED STAR! We stayed here in the newer portion during a cold snap; we stayed because of the price and the room was acceptable; albeit the heater failed 1/2-dozen times during the night; we were told that we needed to get up and unplug the unit so it would reset. BIG MISTAKE, we tried it a second time: the desk clerk was very kind to offer us a package price but then she told us that we needed to leave her a big tip and chuckled; would have though she was joking if she had not repeated herself several times. Am I wrong in thinking that tips are customarily left gratuitously to commend the quality of a room, and/or service provided? SHOULD HAVE BEEN A WARNING SIGNAL! Needed a kitchenette and opted to accept Room #28 for the larger size refrigerator; the size of the frig affected my better judgement! After checking in discovered the refrigerator is filthy and need of a deep, deep, DEEP spring cleaning; it was a health hazard so I cleaned the hazard zone! Desk clerk alleged that carpets were shampooed last month; the carpet looks dirty because: IT IS DIRTY! There is loose dirt on the floor in the bathroom, and scum in the corners of the shower stall; declined to use these facilities for our entire stay. Drawers containing eating utensils are filthy; the can opener w/blue handle has black grunge CAKED on the cutting wheel; went to the store and bought my own; knives, forks and spoons bought new ones too! Upon checking in we turned on the provided room microwave, the TV and plugged in a laptop; breaker tripped because it was overloaded. I called the desk clerk; she informed me how the electrical was not up to code so they had it worked on by a contractor that did not do a very good job; (what do you think I might be thinking?) Being a former member of the IBEW Local 769; (outside electricians), I wonder if there may be danger of electrical overload and GREAT potential for fire! The breaker tripped a 2nd time before a smaller microwave was brought to our room. The 2nd time the breaker tripped I called and was told by whoever answered the phone that they were trying to use the toilet; OMG-TMI! A smaller microwave was brought but the desk clerk informed me that it had been in storage for a long time and might be dirty. Guess what; It was not dirty, it was FILTHY; had to clean it before using! I emptied the trash can prior to housekeeping showing up and discovered filth in the trash can that must have been there for months! YUK! Woke up sick to my stomach, nauseous with a sharp pungent odor in our room stinging my nose. I am a trained FIRE FIGHTER; signals and alarms were sounding inside me; so I began putting pieces of the puzzle (clues) together. What I discovered is a gas hot water heater in what appears to be a former closet; there is a hole 'literally chopped/hacked' in the bathroom door to allow ventilation for the GAS water heater covered by a sign on the makeshift cover/flap says, "Please leave open, water heater needs air". There is also a note on the bathroom window, "Thank you for leaving the window open a crack." A note on the frig door requiring us to leave a tip for ice! I bought my own ice! Two more nights with flashbacks of the "Bates Motel" I went directly to the hardware in town to purchase a "CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR/ALARM" put it in the bathroom and close the door! The people at the Hardware asked where I was staying; to protect their anonymity I will not say which one or what their comments were. This place is no bargain; I could not be paid to stay there again; no tip will be left here! recommend that travelers consider the health risks; "STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK!" You might ask, why on earth did I stay another night? Answer: I had $300.00 food delivery coming here on two separate days; when the final shipment arrived I got the hell out of dodge! BTW...I spent $50.00 on a Carbon Monoxide Detector to make sure my wife and I would wake up in the morning! I refuse to use any of the cooking items in this room for fear that I might get dysentery. Take it to the bank I took 30-pictures in the event this YELP is challenged! My next conscious thought is; WHERE ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH IS THE FIRE MARSHALL? read more

This place is a dump and no bargain at all. We spent $100 for a dirty room with no hot water. The woman at the desk suggested we wait awhile and try again for the hot water. Sure, no problem, after traveling all day with two exhausted and filthy children who just want to get to bed... We moved to another room with hot water but a refrigerator that wouldn't work. I will be asking for some sort of a refund in the morning. Don't stay here!!! read more

To call this place a dump is over-rating it. We stayed in a Room 28 like one of the other reviewers & it was disgusting, although at least they had cleaned the fridge. However, when we checked the room, the cadets were filthy, nothing had been vacuumed, the coffee pot was half full from the previous occupants, and there was URINE ON THE TOILET SEAT!!! .When we complained, they finally cleaned the coffee pot (rinsed not washed!) & gave us some BS story about a new cleaner who used a different product (her own urine???) on the toilet. We then went to hang up our clothes & found the closet was full with carpet shampoo equipment &a high chair, so the room we paid for was being used as a storage room!! Didn't bother complaining as we didn't want another BS story, just wanted to get the night over since we prepaid on Expedia (at a $30 premium to their usual rate). Also found out at midnight that you're 100 feet from a freight train line & all the noise that goes with that when you're trying to sleep. Worst nights sleep I've ever had & couldn't get out of there fast enough. Will do my Yelp check next time I'm in the area & DEFINITELY avoid this place. Would be better off sleeping in our car than spend an exorbitant $90 on this dump. Drive right past & don't EVER give this place a chance to take your money. The owners should feel ashamed of themselves for the quality of what they offer to unknowing guests & then charging an outrageous price for a dump. Easily the WORST place we have ever stayed. One star only because you can't give any lower & I wanted to warn EVERYONE to avoid this place like the plague!!!! read more
