What a wonderful place to spend an afternoon! I've been a longtime paint-your-own pottery devotee, and this is one of the best I've ever seen. It's a fantastically open and airy space with tons of tables. The staff is so friendly and helpful - I was greeted so warmly right when I walked in. One of the hardest things was picking what to paint! They have an amazing selection - adorable little animals, ring dishes, spoon holders, platters, big gnomes, snowmen, Christmas trees, Halloween trinkets, mugs, and so much more! There is definitely something for every price point. I picked out my piece - a large gnome - and then enjoyed taking my time to paint. That was the second hardest part! So many great colors to choose from. I'm very excited to see my finished gnome when I go back to pick him up. Walk-ins are welcome, and couples and families poured in the whole time I was there. There were also a few small party groups, too. Truly a wonderful pottery painting experience, and I can't wait to go back for another afternoon excursion. read more

The place is amazing. My wife took me here for my birthday weekend and we love it. Atmosphere: Great When you walk in you can feel how artsy this place is. They have a lot of stuff to paint from plates to dishes to marvel super heroes. The employees turned music on once we got started which created a nice atmosphere. Paint shop is very colorful and I love it. Customer Service: Amazing The customer service is amazing. You could tell that they had smiles on their faces through their mask. They are very friendly and made me want to come back. They answered all of our questions and made us feel welcome. What I painted: Spider-Man Container In the pictures you'll see I painted a Spider-Man Container. This took me about 2 hours to paint and I loved every minute doing it. The most of the time came from the top of the container trying to figure out how I was going to paint it and the number of coats that I was going to paint it. I'm no Picasso but I feel like I did a good job lol. Price: I don't know how much it cost because my wife paid for it for my birthday! All in all we enjoyed it allot. read more

I heard about this place from a friend and she highly recommended going to check it out - I am so glad I did! You do not need a reservation to walk in and paint. They have a huge selection of pottery to choose from and they offer all kinds of different price points. Once you pick your piece - you have unlimited access to all the colors of paints and brushes. You can also take your time to paint your piece. We spent about 2 hours here to paint 3 pieces (I'll also attach pictures). Once you are done, they will take your piece and glaze/fire it for you. You can pick up your pottery a week later. ALSO! If you go on Sunday or Thursday, it is 1/2 off ($4) their studio fee (the price of them glazing your pottery). I've been coming here with my kids, who are now adults, for years. I still have things my kids painted 20 years ago. It's always been a fun and enjoyable until my most recent visit. We recently brought my 3-year-old granddaughter on a Saturday and wow was it an experience. If you're looking for a relaxing place to try out your painting skills this isn't the place. The tables are very close together and nearly impossible to navigate through especially when occupied. The noise level is equivalent to Chuck E Cheese, the atmosphere is chaotic and the background music, which should be enjoyable, just adds to the mayhem. They also host children's birthday parties in the same area used by other customers which adds to the noise and chaos. There is no seating for the parents attending the kids' parties which leaves them standing/blocking access to one of two stations customers have to choose paints and get necessary supplies. And to top it off there is one single restroom to accommodate the 50+ people there that afternoon. It appears that the quantity of customers you can squeeze in has taken priority over the experience you provide. Painting should be a relaxing experience, and I should be able to easily converse with the people at my table There should be a separate area for children's parties, so customers aren't forced to use one supply station or hear kids celebrating at these parties. The tables need to be arranged so there is space for people to walk with feeling like their navigating a rat maze. read more

My wife and I stopped in here after dinner on a Saturday night to do some painting. She loves this place she gets all kinds of materials and things painted here all the time. This is my first time being in this establishment. Walk in it's brightly lit they have a lot of things you can select and paint from and do. Ladies they were very helpful and nice. They had nice painting selections that you could do so I got me a chili bowl and I painted up red and black and going to write daddy's chili bowl on it. My wife got salt and pepper shakers and she cardamom up nice and neat and then you leave them at the place they fired up in there kiln And we come get it next week and I'll look and see what it looks like then but this is a pretty cool store for sure little on the expensive side for me but I'm cheap read more

We had never heard of this place, but it was a recommended place when looking for things to do in Louisville. Well, I second that recommendation! We got there an hour after opening. There were a few customers there already, but there was plenty of space. One of the workers showed us the ropes and that was very helpful. You have to choose which pottery pieces you wanted to paint. So, we picked out the pieces we wanted to paint and chose our table. Once we chose our table, we were shown the paint wall to pick out our paint colors. We were given brushes and we were on our own at that point. We had a good time! It was fun, peaceful and very therapeutic. Such a nice atmosphere and the owner was very nice!! We have to pick up our pieces in a week, after they are glazed and heated! I can't wait to see the ooutcome! We will definitely be back to paint more pieces! read more

I remember visiting Paint Spot as a kid for birthday parties. I always had a good time then but took about a 15-year hiatus because you know... growing up and stuff. But not too long ago, my early thirties friend group were trying to decide what to do for our girls' day and we had the brilliant idea to go back. While the one hour birthday parties of my youth have now evolved into I kid you not up to 6-hour paint sessions with a group of adults, we have the best time. We've never felt rushed by the staff. The prices are totally reasonable considering it's an all-day affair, and you get to take home your custom piece of beautiful art in a week after it's glazed and your colors are brought to life. I also appreciate just how many options there are to paint. As a not fully committed but almost there minimalist, I look for function over trinket. Paint Spot to the rescue! The stage was set for a great night: wine, painting, and kicking off the end of a friend's single freedom as the other bridesmaids and I gathered to celebrate the upcoming nuptials. We all met at the painting place with smocks, snacks, and sips to share, only to be told by that place's staff that the whole thing would be called off due to one of the bridesmaids not yet being 21. No matter if we didn't drink any alcohol or open a bottle, it was ixnay on having anyone under the legal age on the premises. All eyes turned to the bride who was unnerveingly calm. We then looked to the Maid of Honor to see what magic she could create to save the night -- a quick call to Paint Spot assurred that they had free space and we were on our way there with our platters of snacks and minus the libations. The staff at Paint Spot was amazing at turning lemons to lemonade. They quickly cleared off a back party table in the back, helped us choose our items to paint and explained the painting process to all of us amateurs. We alternated dipping brushes into splotches of paint and hands into the snacks we'd brought while we worked on our masterpieces. 2 hours, 3 coats of paint, and several "whoopsies" later, we all had painted something we could be happy with and ready to throw into the kiln for pick-up a week later. For your party - no matter how short in advance you plan it - I'd recommend spending some time and money at Paint Spot for great memories and a fun and useful trinket for your home. And walk-ins are welcome. You can go as a stress-reliever or with a group. No need for a reservation on most days. For kids, there are multiple summer classes available on the website. There are also certain days of the week when the studio fee is half off. So check the website for that. The studio fee is $4. Super affordable. The biggest expense is the pottery you pick out. You have choices ranging from vases, bowls, mugs and platters to animals and Disney characters. Most pieces range from $15-$45. There are instructors there for light guidance and explaining how to utilize paint colors, stamps, etc. But mostly you're on your own and free to be creative with your piece! Painting pottery is one of my favorite hobbies, so I am here at least once a month! Very large studio with many choices of pottery to choose from. The staff will explain how it all works for your first time, from pricing of the pieces, the paint and how to get the color you want, and help if you need ideas or need to fix a mess up. They have many supplies to chooses from to make your forever memorable piece, to keep or give as a gift. There are many finished pieces displayed around the studio to get idea's from also. They offer summer classes for kids, they have a calendar with deals throughout each week, parties for groups/kids, individual or family painting, and monthly classes. I personally love to join the monthly paint class to learn different and new techniques. They have a piece that you will all do together as a class, pre chosen by the instructor. She walks you step by step through painting the piece. It is a 3 hour class usually the second Friday of the month. Great deal for the pieces you paint also!. The prices are a bit insane. I was going to let it go initially. We got two hand sized pieces and were INITIALLY priced out at $66. The real kicker was being given a tip option, while the worker that ran through instruction in 1 min, barely greate or talked outside of that, watched over the kiosk as I had to pick. I was forced to tip $10 (15%) to someone who barely even interacted with me and literally didn't even work the entire time. $10 as a tip for a paint it YOURSELF pottery place. My total was $78. Wth. I was going to brush off the already high priced pieces, the $8 per person sitting fee, but being forced to tip too for someone who didn't even do anything??? I work in the service industry and with that same system, I always step away the second it pops up. read more

This is one of my FAVORITE PLACES. I've been coming for years and the staff is always super friendly and willing to help. Each of my pieces are beautiful made and the paint is always super high quality. Before COVID, of course, my mom and I were able to take in food and eat while we painted which was super nice. I have been to this place a total of 2 times. The first time I painted a pot for my grandmother for Mother's Day. The second time I recently painted a plate for my father in law for Father's Day. I have had a great experience both times with workers who are extra friendly and welcoming. It was easy to navigate and paint my items. Left to be fired it's ready a week later. I've been to this location over the years and consistently have a great experience. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a large variety of things to chose from to paint that would keep the interest of any age. Most recently we took our (almost) 3 year old, she enjoyed picking out her paint colors and painting her pottery. My husband and I also enjoyed painting alongside her. Once you are done they keep your pottery to glaze it and you can pick it up in a week. Although this isn't cheap it's a fun indoor activity to do when it's hot out. Plus it leaves you with functional objects, fun keepsakes or a great gift. read more

When I lived up north there were a number of places like this and I always had a great time. The Paint Spot is ridiculously expensive. Every item I picked out was between $27-$39 and that's on top of the $8 sitting fee. I wasn't choosing particularly large or intricate items. Like I said, I've been to places like this before. I guess it's because I had always gone to small mom and pop kind of studios. I'd much rather support an enterprise like that and not waste my money. I don't think I was being unreasonable. At other places I made a cookie jar that cost about $30, which is reasonable because it's a large item with 2 seperate pieces. A large serving bowl would be more like $22 and the sitting fees are generally about $4. This place just wasn't worth the money. read more

I bought a Groupon some time back for the Paint Spot. This is a place where you glaze your own bisque pottery. They have everything from garden gnomes to large platters. I called ahead to ask if it was by appointment or just drop in and I was told to just come in whenever I liked and they'd get me started. I got there last night (4/27/11) around 7 pm and the place was packed. I was asked to take my time selecting a piece while a work space was found for me. A few minutes later a lovely woman directed me to a counter with a stool. After I got settled in she came by to give me my orientation. She very clearly explained the process of layering the glazes and how to work from light colors to dark. She showed me where all the supplies were and left me to create my masterpiece. I selected a large square charger ($29.00) and went to pick my glazes. I got to looking around the studio and noticed a shelf about 12 feet up that went around most of the room. It held all manner of decorated plates, bowls, vases, platters, canisters etc. One bowl caught me eye, it had the most extraordinary sort of dark turquoise glaze with grey speckles. The woman who had helped me get started stopped by to check on me and I asked if the glazes were mixable since I didn't see a sample tile that looked like the same color on the bowl. She said she thought it was a special glaze that they didn't usually have. Then the owner walked by and we were introduced and I started saying how beautiful I thought the bowl was and how could I achieve a similiar result. She (the owner) climbed up on the counter and got the bowl down for me to have a closer look. It was stunning!. The grey speckles were actually like small black explosions of color with tiny bits of yellow mixed in, and where they were made dimples in the darker glaze. I was so smitten with the color and texture, that the owner offered to special order the glaze if I thought I would make more pieces. I said I would commit to a dinner service! We chatted a bit longer, exchanged business cards and she left for the evening. I finished my charger and went to pay. After my Groupon was discounted I paid around $13.00. There is always an $8.00 studio fee but if you don't feel your piece is complete, you can take it with you and bring it back to work on it some more without having to pay that fee again. I had an absolutely wonderful time at the Paint Spot and look forward to seeing my charger after it is fired. And then I'm starting on my new dinner service... read more
