My pup and I strolled along the paths and took breaks at a couple of the many benches placed about to stop and enjoy the views. They have a nursery with some wonderful looking plants you can buy. There were a couple I wanted but wouldn't make the rest of my road trip. Parking and the park is free. They do accept donations and they also have volunteer opportunities. It display New Port Richey downtown watercolor. It shows the historic district of the downtown. The gallery is free to public. Today they are opened at 10 am. At 9:40 am we were picking through the window and the art gallery lady was kind enough to open the door for us and let us in. There are several artists display their master piece in this gallery. Every 1st Friday of the month, the gallery has the art show and reception start at 6 pm to 8 pm. Please check their calendar for their upcoming special program. The art gallery is also doing rental that you rent out for special function. You can cater the food from outside and bring to the gallery during the event. They have guest speaker, poetry, book reading sometime. The parking is easy on the street. The access is simple and you can walk to all downtown venue from there.

Many places have patios and there is a nice park along the Pithlascotchee River. The art exhibits have themes and it's neat to see the diverse styles. There are also some sculptures and jewelry. They also host student exhibits. If you are an artist you can have your work displayed for a small fee. This is a community gem. Enjoy. The employees and volunteers are always super friendly.

Literally, my only complaint is that the hours are weird and I'm never able to go! But it is run by volunteers, so again, no complaints. They simply ask for donations, but they won't deny you access if you don't have money. They are all friendly and they will answer and questions you have. Apparently it's open to the public. Be sure to check it out. The library area had quite a few old newspapers, but there were a lot that were torn or otherwise damaged. Not sure if that was from careless visitors or just the nature of dealing with old paper. They also have a fair amount of books relating to the area, which were neat to flip through. Most/all of the books available for sale up front are also available to read in this area. As best I could tell, books can't be 'checked out' or borrowed, so you'll want to bring your own notebook, portable scanner, etc. if you are doing research. There is also a cabinet of microfiche and a viewer for them, but I didn't have a chance to use them. I also didn't use the computer available, since most of the computer-based research I wanted to do, I could just do from my house. Their website (westpascohistoricalsociety.org) is hit-or-miss. While it does seem like they try to keep it update, it's just a very basic Wordpress blog and there isn't much substance to it. I've found their Facebook page (facebook.com/westpascohistoricalsociety/) to be much more beneficial. It's still not ideal, but I was able to find a few old maps that I hadn't run across elsewhere. I'm usually a bit picky about websites, but some historical societies don't even have one (or they do but it's never updated). I'm glad this one is at least trying. It's insane to me that they don't allow memberships over the website, though. If someone wants to join, renew their existing membership, or buy a membership for a family member, that should be as easy and convenient as possible. Though it's impossible to know how many people would've signed up for membership online but didn't because they wouldn't/couldn't go to the physical location and pay cash for it, I'm fairly confident it's at least a number greater than zero. Similarly, if someone wanted to buy a book available for purchase in person, that should be made simple and painless to do on the website, too. As you might have inferred from my above statements about membership, they currently do not accept debit/credit card payments at this location for anything. Given how seldom it is for people to carry cash around with them, I'm sure this limits the amount of memberships they get and gift shop sales they do.... which seems unfortunate. I'd love to see this place flourish. Hopefully they'll eventually find the right balance between appreciating history and keeping up with modern expectations of their (potential) customers.

Local theatre that has a great sound system and professional lighting. This is not a community…read moretheater group. It's a venue that brings in well-known acts for One Night Only shows. They get top notch acts from Las Vegas and the shows are the least expensive I have ever been to, yet some of the best. They also showcase Disney musicals for short runs. I highly recommend checking out Springstead Theatre if you enjoy live performances. It was super fun. The schedule is on their website.
