I recently hired AdvantaClean of the West Side to perform mold remediation. The workers were…read morefriendly and diligent. They did well with the basement. There some very tough areas and they took their time to get it cleaned up. It was when they began the dining room that left me dazed. Part of the remediation was to remove plaster from walls where mold may have been growing behind the plaster. Almost all exterior walls were identified on the first and second floors. Given the condition of the house, I agreed. I thought I was hearing just plaster breaking up, but when I inspected the work they had done, I told them to stop. Beneath the plaster was tile block, which they had broken up and exposed the exterior brick walls of the house. If I had allowed them to continue, I couldn't have afforded to have the house put back together and would have lost the plaster crown molding. They made it clear they weren't familiar with this kind of wall construction. After I insisted, it was agreed no more walls would be broken up without my approval. It was left at "It's your house..." In my opinion, the mold was superficial in most of the first and second floors and was removed by scraping off the paint and sanitizing. I was okay with baseboards being removed and sanitized. It's the fact they felt compelled to continue with wall demolition on unfamiliar construction, starting in an area that had the least chance of having mold behind the walls. The company would do well to stick with newer homes where they are familiar with the construction methods and instruct their workers if they get into something unfamiliar, to stop and have it evaluated before continuing. Very costly lesson on my part. Just a quick update and some pictures. I had a general contractor look at the damage and he simply couldn't believe it. He said this is the supporting structure of the wall and it will be very costly to repair. You may want to look for another company if you have an older home.

Project completed in early spring and by December of 1st winter it was chipping, pitting and falling apart. This damage has gotten worse and goes all the way up and down the driveway. They did not level the work area (you can see it) and the apron was done very poorly as well. DO NOT HIRE. This is a family company and they are a disgrace through and through. Not to mention left the worst mess of concrete splashed onto my garage eves and the sides of my house. Plus, when he was restaining my cement patio also stained the side of my garage with it. The best part was that a fight nearly broke out on the pour day over not enough water in the truck. Which I have come to find out that is why my driveway looks like shit. The mixture was too dry which caused it to dry too quickly and be too brittle. I don't understand why you would continue to pour knowing the mixture was bad. Just a terrible person and company. I spent way too much money to be so disappointed. Also, they were supposed to remove old gate posts during the process because a new one was going in but they decided they couldn't get one of them out so they just re cemented it in with the new driveway. So then when the fence company came out they had to cut into my brand new driveway to remove the post. To place a new, larger post. Not their fault. Should have been removed with the driveway. Please do not hire Michael Saunders. This driveway was done in June 2023. Only 2.5 years old and I was meticulous about the care of it since I saved for a long time to replace my old one.

I was upset because I felt like this was a bait and switch since they knew I was in a bind, plus I didn't see how it was our fault that they didn't get their numbers correct. If our business misquoted our clients you better believe we would be eating that cost. However, we eventually negotiated to split the increase and he ensured me that all was well with our deadline. Two days before they are scheduled to install, four days before my deadline, they tell me that they can't get the carpet in time even though UPS offers NDA and Saturday delivery. They threw their distributor under the bus yet refused to let me contact them to see if I could get the carpet shipped direct through our UPS account. They were completely unwilling to work with me on installing another day and gave me no other options. I could tell that they didn't want to do the work due to their previous mistakes making the job less profitable for them. I understand that to a point, but as a I now have to explain to my boss why the carpet is not being replaced it's my ass on the line. Bottom Line: Shady business practices that will leave you in the lurch.
