Which is a shame as this is actually a gret little store. It is not at the scope of the big chains such as B&Q, it's more of the sort of last minute purchases that you need quickly such as fittings, screws, lightbulbs etc. (and the prices fairly reflect that). There is a cutting room upstairs when needed and the staff are both knowledgable and friendly. Just wish I could change that map!

Parking around there can be a bit…read moreof a nightmare but if you are passing and can stop, have a look in, you never know what you'll find. Upstairs is mainly a hardware store, and a fairly decent one at that. If you're looking for any DIY tools or materials then upstairs may well be worth a bit of a look. The quality of the materials is not always perfect but if you're willing to take a chance on something cheap you might end up with a bargain. Downstairs is a much more random selection of odds and ends, ranging from homeware and toiletries to framed dolphin pictures and 5-packs of cassette tapes for a pound. Even compared to other similar discount stores, Yu & Me is especially chaotic- there doesn't seem to be any sort of rhyme or reason to where things are stacked, and look out as you walk around, as certain product lines are often just left sat in the aisles where you will accidentally kick them. There's the occasional branded item in there but mostly it's obscure import brand stuff, so a lot of it is a gamble as to whether it will be any good or not. However, most things are just a pound so if you're in a gambling mood you can end up with a basket full of stuff. It's an almost mesmeric effect- you'll want to buy something, even if you don't think you do. You'll regret buying some of it maybe, but your wallet won't have taken too much of a hammering, so you'll forgive yourself

Old fashioned hardware stores are a rare thing these days when you consider that between the big…read morechains like B&Q and Homebase and the more traditional builders merchants, the DIY market must be fairly well catered for. Unusual then that Sale has two of them! Situated (rather inconveniently for anyone other than those visiting on foot!) right on the main road through Sale, this store occupies a space that is crammed with as wide a variety of stock as you could imagine, from lightbulbs to timber, step ladders to hammers. I only called in there for an energy saving lightbulb, but even then was greeted with a dazzling array of items that fell into this category... rather surprisingly they also seemed to still have a few 100 watt lightbulbs and as such had fashioned for themselves a bit of a black market for the things! Anyway, I digress. The staff were friendly, the range of stock was impressive and the prices pretty reasonable. The location is a bit of a negative since for anything requiring a car to pick it up (which I don't think is that unusual for DIY items), you have to negotiate a tortuous one way system to be able to park outside it, and then you have to 'Pay and Display' which is an un-necessary expense. Still, you can easily walk there from Sale town centre so I don't suppose it is a disaster. 3 stars, due to its location.

I've been given items half price because they hadn't stocked products with my intended budget (in the case of a garden spade). If you just want a tiny pack of screws then you'll have their attention as though you were spending hundreds in there. The outside of the shop clearly gives away the type of wares they deal in here, but once inside you in those special tardis like places, chock full to the brim with thousands of products. If you're tacking a bit of DIY yourself (and some of the more trickier tasks) then they''ll unreservedly provide you with advice on what to buy and indeed how best to get on with it. Try that in the large DIY out of town sheds and if you: a) find an assistant b) find someone who knows what they're talking about and can be bothered to give advice then count yourself lucky. I rarely go the latter places any more Walsh's pretty much stocks everything from electrical tools to ladders and sandpaper to work wear. The website is very extensive also. Next time, if you live in the area and are off to B & Q, try here first. If they don't stock certain items they they're are other similar businesses in the area that do (builders merchants as an example).
