This place is an Alladin's cave for all DIY'ers. Not saying I'm much of a DIY'er myself, but I do…read morelike buying my own materials and getting someone else to do the work.. And that requires looking for bargain stores such as this. The range of products on offer is quite generous both in quantity and economically. You've probably driven past this on Stockport road and dismissed it for its underwhelming front of house Aesthetic. (The big shop sign currently reads Ever..) But don't be fooled by appearances this place is misleadingly HUGE once you're inside. They sell everything from timber for your gardening needs to cheap bathroom units incase your bathtub collapses for whatever adventurous reason (using it as a stepping stool while tiling?) The service is what I come here for though. And I'm not talking about cheesy smiles and being asked about your health every two seconds. (Yes, for the umpteenth time, I'm ok really!!)It's very direct and to the point! So just tell them EXACTLY what you're dilemma is and they'll help you find the most innovative and cheapest way to solve your problem! The staff are DIY'ers which explains it all. This review is bring written on the go on my mobile so apologies for the lack of substantial body of text. So just take it from me and have a cheeky window shop if you're renovating in the near future! It's not that big a climb!

Upstairs is mainly a hardware store, and a fairly decent one at that. If you're looking for any DIY tools or materials then upstairs may well be worth a bit of a look. The quality of the materials is not always perfect but if you're willing to take a chance on something cheap you might end up with a bargain. Downstairs is a much more random selection of odds and ends, ranging from homeware and toiletries to framed dolphin pictures and 5-packs of cassette tapes for a pound. Even compared to other similar discount stores, Yu & Me is especially chaotic- there doesn't seem to be any sort of rhyme or reason to where things are stacked, and look out as you walk around, as certain product lines are often just left sat in the aisles where you will accidentally kick them. There's the occasional branded item in there but mostly it's obscure import brand stuff, so a lot of it is a gamble as to whether it will be any good or not. However, most things are just a pound so if you're in a gambling mood you can end up with a basket full of stuff. It's an almost mesmeric effect- you'll want to buy something, even if you don't think you do. You'll regret buying some of it maybe, but your wallet won't have taken too much of a hammering, so you'll forgive yourself

Whether this was how I saw my life at 32 I'm not sure but these things have to be done and I guess it's better to commit to these things and stop water from flying all over my bathroom floor every time I shower than to put up with it. This place has everything for the casual buyer, tradesman or commercial - bathrooms, kitchen, building supplies - you can check it out online before going to buy - not a bad place to start to get involved with DIY!

So, you're probably wondering what sort of person reviews a DIY shop well, hopefully I can answer…read morethat! For those of you not familiar with Wickes, they're firmly towards the trade end of the DIY spectrum; they'll help you out if you ask for a screwdriver for example, but might give you some funny looks if you ask for 'one of those with a cross on the end' instead of a Pozidrive. I went because they're also at the cheaper end for some stuff like timber - I was making some garden planters. Over all, I got everything I needed for much less than the closer Homebase and B&Q. It's well worth a look at Wickes if you're planning some odd jobs, you'll find some of the less common stuff here, and might save yourself some cash. Hopefully this answers the question - who reviews a DIY shop - someone who's after a bit of a bargain...
