September 6, 2026 - Beatty, NV…read more We stopped in Beatty, NV, for an overnight stay on our road trip and had some time to explore, so I looked for something nearby. Rhyolite was only about 15 minutes away, so off we went. Additionally, Tom Kelly's Bottle House and the Goldwell Open Air Museum are along the way, so we got three interesting stops for the price of one. Rhyolite is a glimpse into Nevada's mining-town past. Most of the town has faded into crumbling walls and scattered ruins, but signs throughout the site explain what once stood there, often paired with old photos showing the buildings in their heyday. Seeing those images alongside the remains really helps you picture the bustling town that once occupied this now-quiet stretch of desert. The train depot is the highlight, as it's the most intact building and gives you the best feel for Rhyolite as it once was. Then there's the wonderfully quirky Bottle House, built from thousands of bottles, followed by the Goldwell Open Air Museum and its larger-than-life desert sculptures. Both were unexpected--and fun--additions to the outing. What started as a quick side trip turned into a memorable afternoon of ghost-town ruins, quirky history, and desert art. If you're staying in Beatty, Rhyolite is definitely worth the short drive!

I love history like this so I was super excited. I came here for the Tom Kelly Glass House. When you first walk up, there is a sign explaining the history of the house. Next to it, there is a sign in sheet so you can see where people have travelled from to checkout the house. I was amazed by how many people had recently been there! It's a short stop, just walk up and take a few pictures of the house. Look inside. Take in the history. I would definitely recommend adding this stop to your trip if you're passing through! Ohhh also, the Goldwell Museum is only a minute drive from the Tom Kelly Bottle House. Check out that place too and be respectful of the artwork!

I repect the job its not a easy one but when the officers are rude, it doesnt make it any easier for anyone. Its not a good feeling to be searched or even in this place, but I will continue to visit my family regardless if they believe they shouldnt get visits or not. I really like the dentist I see. She and the assistants make me feel comfortable and they seem non judgemental. I have the nastiest teeth for a 32 year old. Tsk tsk on me. The substance abuse counselor, Mr. Felix was such a breath of fresh air. He went at my pace and we set realistic goals for my road to recovery. I will always choose their services over anyone else's except I'm in a program which means I have to see my program's psychiatrist only. Very good people and professional :)

To find this hidden gem, take I-15 to Zzyx Road in the Southeastern direction (the wrong side of the highway deadends after about 1/4 mile, so don't worry). Keep driving, even when the pavement briefly ends after 4 miles or so. You'll see a weird Gilligans Island-style oasis creep up over the horizon. And bam, you're there! Try to go during the cooler months -- it can get up to 130F in the summer. All those abandoned buildings are a dream for photogs!
