I love history like this so I was super excited. I came here for the Tom Kelly Glass House. When you first walk up, there is a sign explaining the history of the house. Next to it, there is a sign in sheet so you can see where people have travelled from to checkout the house. I was amazed by how many people had recently been there! It's a short stop, just walk up and take a few pictures of the house. Look inside. Take in the history. I would definitely recommend adding this stop to your trip if you're passing through! Ohhh also, the Goldwell Museum is only a minute drive from the Tom Kelly Bottle House. Check out that place too and be respectful of the artwork!

Really interesting history here - Rhyolite was a gold rush town and is a perfect example of "Boom to Bust". One of the town's multi-story buildings cost $90,000 to build back in the early 1900's, so you can imagine how magnificent it must have been. Unfortunately, the town of Rhyolite only lasted 15 years before it was completely abandoned. I really liked viewing the buildings and reading the signs accompanying each one. The Tom Kelly bottle house was particularly fascinating. Wish it was open to go inside, but I did peek in the windows. Keep in mind that all of the buildings are fenced off s you can just view them from the outside, but Rhyolite is worth 5 stars as the buildings are mostly still standing and it is definitely a good stop while in the area.

I get it it's prison not supposed to be fun, but dam the families didn't do the crime. You don't have to treat us like trash because you hate your job. There website also sucks it stays broken, they will direct you to go online. Then when you tell them it's broke they want to say that's not true. This place is a joke.

This is an update to my original 2 star review because visiting has gone down hill, straight into…read morethe toilet. It's bad enough to visit at a prison where you have to follow a very particular set of rules, but to have staff that is downright disrespectful and takes pleasure in harassing visitors, takes things to a whole new level of shitty. Be forewarned that the visiting officers that are currently working check-in can be aggressive and downright rude. The clothing rules seem to have changed all of a sudden and they are really cracking down on any little clothing issue that they deem unacceptable. I've been humiliated, as have others, by the gatehouse guards over what I have been wearing(which is ridiculous because I dress very conservatively). In my 16 years years of visiting at other facilities around the state, I have never had any issues. Furthermore, there is one guard in particular who has zero public relations skills and literally screams at people when she gets flustered. "Higher management" doesn't seem to give a rat's ass about the abhorrent behavior and behaves in a similar, disrespectful fashion. When you're a public servant, you should not be treating free citizens like dirt. On top of all that, they still cannot seem to figure out an acceptable check-in routine as now they are allowing people who have visited the week before to sign up for the following week in advance, which means that if you don`t make prison visiting your life and do not go every week, more than likely you will be far down on the list come your visiting day. Ridiculous.
