I went to this school from 5th-middle of 8th im telling you I do not recommend this school at all…read more Before I get into anythin, when I moved schools, this school didn't even send over ALL of my forms and paperwork so I think that already speaks a lot. But education, some teachers are good and actually care but a lot of them don'. They don't get payed enough to care I guess (teachers words not mine). The school doesn't care about students mental health or what they even do because over 50% of them are on drugs. Like if you drug tested them it would come back positive And the food is not it all. I got food poisoning from here twice and a lot of stuff they sell at that school as way too overpriced. I feel like I'm explaining stuff all over the place. But also this school gets lots of threats which again, they pretend to care but they really don't. And the staff sees what they want to see. all imma say about that. Also I don't recommend sending your middle schooler here because 1, they don't get much to do highschool gets everything, and 2, the students are rude, on drugs, overall ghetto like they have no home training. Lots of roaches, ants etc as well. Very unorganized and wait until last minute to announce thing. I'm probably missing a lot of stuff since I haven't been here since November of 2024. But I truly don't recommend this school at all it'll destroy your kids mental health and they most likely won't do good academically. Mind you I went to this school long enough so I would truly take a student's word over a staff memher because they sugar coat everything. Public schools are so much better than this bum, money hungry, unorganize, ghetto charter school. -Former Student

A Parent's Review of Gateway Charter Elementary School: Failure to Protect a Student with…read moreDisabilities and Honor 504 Accommodations As a parent, I am deeply disappointed and concerned with how Gateway Charter Elementary School has handled the bullying, safety, and educational accommodations involving my daughter. Every child deserves to feel safe, protected, respected, and supported at school. Unfortunately, my daughter's experience has left me questioning whether this school is taking its responsibility to protect students with disabilities seriously. My daughter was threatened by another student who used the exact words, "I'm going to kill you." Despite the seriousness of this threat, the response appeared to be little more than a slap on the wrist. Meanwhile, my daughter was the one who had to be picked up from school because she shut down emotionally. I was initially contacted and told only that my child was shutting down and needed to be picked up. I was not given a clear explanation of what had happened until I arrived at the school. As a parent, I find it unacceptable that I was not fully informed of the incident when my daughter's safety and emotional well-being were involved. The impact of this situation has extended well beyond the school day. My daughter has been attending therapy, and during a recent session, she spent approximately two hours expressing herself and discussing her experiences. She identified around 15 individuals she considers bullies, including her own teacher. This should raise serious concerns about the school environment and whether my daughter feels safe, supported, and heard by the adults responsible for her care. I am especially disturbed by an incident involving Ms. Maik, who reportedly watched another student shove my daughter and responded by saying, "Maybe if you weren't walking slow, it wouldn't have happened." Rather than addressing the physical aggression and supporting the child who was targeted, this response placed the blame on my daughter. No child should be made to feel responsible for another student's decision to shove or mistreat them. What makes this situation even more troubling is that my daughter has epilepsy and a 504 Plan intended to address her individual needs. I am extremely concerned about the school's handling of her accommodations, particularly the apparent reluctance to provide tutoring to a student with a documented disability and established accommodations. I expect the school to take its obligations seriously and to explain how its decisions align with her 504 Plan and applicable disability protections. My daughter should not have to suffer emotionally, be threatened, or experience physical aggression before the adults responsible for her education take action. She should not have to shut down before her distress is recognized. And she should never be made to feel that her disability, the way she moves, or her need for support makes her responsible for how others treat her. I am asking the school to take these concerns seriously, investigate the reported incidents, review how my daughter's 504 accommodations are being implemented, and establish a clear plan to protect her from further bullying and retaliation. I also expect professional and timely communication with me as her parent whenever a serious safety incident occurs. This is not simply a disagreement about school discipline. It is about student safety, accountability, disability accommodations, and the responsibility educators have to protect children in their care. Every child deserves to feel safe at school. Every child with a disability deserves equal access to educational support. And every parent deserves to trust that the school entrusted with their child's well-being will take their concerns seriously. I hope the school administration takes meaningful action before another child has to experience what my daughter has experienced.
