This school has been the absolute worst experience for me and my friends. In this school failing is expected due to it being very hard to find good teachers. Some English teachers don't even speak English here! the disciplinary staff are SOOOOO useful because they just stand in the halls blowing their whistles and personally i have very sensitive ears so they are HARASSING me. If you have a fear of roaches and bugs dont go here. There are so many health code violations and the bathrooms are usually all broken. This school is always missing teachers so if you come here expecting to learn you might want to choose another school. TBH i am talking about the middle and high school campus the elementary is average. Also the students are terribly ghetto and rude but the AMAZING (Im being sarcastic) diseplenary staff do nothing about it, probably because they are all chopped cheese . This is a really incapable and terrible school for children. The staff there is constantly telling the kids to shut up, be quiet, or threaten them with something. The kids get extra points when if they walk in the hall with one arm across their chest and the other covering their mouth while walking single file. I've spoken to the staff many times over from the counselor, assistant principal and principal, teachers and nothing ever changes. Lots of False promises and fake apologies. It benefits them if you as a parent don't come feel comfortable approaching them. They keep things quiet about what's going on in school. The only way you'll know is if you have a relationship with your child where you dig about how their day actually went. When my child was going there in his second year there were kids bullying/attacking other kids in the restroom. Lifting them up off the ground in unfair condition of 3 kids to 1. Kicking in the doors to the stalls they were using and just acting out. This would happen weekly. I as assured they'd put people to rove the hall way and they didn't for weeks. There's was one week where I didn't hear anything happened because my kid saw someone in the hall. My kid was apart of 4 different encounters in the bathroom. He would tell the teachers and they wouldn't even communicate it to the principal or look into it. One day I was talking to the principal Jason Wade and a small child walked in between us talking and he told him that there were kids bullying him and others in the bathroom. He points at me and says "oh it's the same thing you're talking about". I let him know that the school is not capable of protecting and allowi children to feel safe so they can learn. Kids are taught to be quiet and stay still and not to interrupt so that the teachers can teach the curriculum. If the kids do interrupt they are ridiculed and threatened. Points taken away, colors changed and dropped, threatened parent phone calls. Etc. When they're in the cafeteria having lunch they have staff on a microphone yelling at kids to be quiet and continuing the threats. They're not allowed to talk during lunch. When they take their 20 min break they're not allowed to talk to other kids in other classes. So if they have a sibling or friend that happens to be there at the same time it's frowned upon for them to talk to other classes. I mentioned to Principal Wade that maybe there's so much restraint out on these kids and that's why they want to act out so much when they're hidden in the bathroom beating up other kids. His solutions were hollow. Nothing worked. The staff didn't support each other. Everyone agrees with you that you're right but change nothing. I removed my kid from this school. The more you speak the more you realize that you're not the only one going through it. read more

I went to this school from 5th-middle of 8th im telling you I do not recommend this school at all. Before I get into anythin, when I moved schools, this school didn't even send over ALL of my forms and paperwork so I think that already speaks a lot. But education, some teachers are good and actually care but a lot of them don'. They don't get payed enough to care I guess (teachers words not mine). The school doesn't care about students mental health or what they even do because over 50% of them are on drugs. Like if you drug tested them it would come back positive And the food is not it all. I got food poisoning from here twice and a lot of stuff they sell at that school as way too overpriced. I feel like I'm explaining stuff all over the place. But also this school gets lots of threats which again, they pretend to care but they really don't. And the staff sees what they want to see. all imma say about that. Also I don't recommend sending your middle schooler here because 1, they don't get much to do highschool gets everything, and 2, the students are rude, on drugs, overall ghetto like they have no home training. Lots of roaches, ants etc as well. Very unorganized and wait until last minute to announce thing. I'm probably missing a lot of stuff since I haven't been here since November of 2024. But I truly don't recommend this school at all it'll destroy your kids mental health and they most likely won't do good academically. Mind you I went to this school long enough so I would truly take a student's word over a staff memher because they sugar coat everything. I have currently been attending Gateway Charter School for 5 years. To be completely honest, there could be some things i'd change about this school. For starters, the school lunch. When I tell you this food is DIABOLICAL, I'm serious. There have been about 20 students that I know that have gotten terribly sick from the school food. The milk is spoiled sometimes, and when you tell the cafe staff, they don't care. There have been times where patties are uncooked in the middle. It isn't horrible, but it could use improvement. Second, the customer service or front desk. When you dial the school number to ask for concerns, they don't even answer when they are well able to. Again, not horrible, but you'll be on hold for a while If you have the energy to keep trying to contact them. Lastly, the behavioral and discipline staff. If your child is being bullied or harassed by a student, don't expect them to do much but give the perpetrator a slap on the back. If a child gets in a fight with another, even if your child isn't the one at fault, its likely a suspension will be on both records. In all they seriously don't give two over here. To be honest I would not send my kid here, the lunches are so bad, one year they gave students moldy milk that expired 4 months prior. Another time after a hurricane they told all parents that students could return to school. then at 10pm when everyone should be asleep that posted on their website that students could not return to school, many students went to return to school just to find out that it was closed. I was enrolled in this high school for 4 years and most of my experiences were terrible. This is especially true regarding management, which is unorganized and unprofessional. If you are sending your children to this school I guarantee you they will be disrespected by staff. The only good thing about the school is the few teachers that actually care about their students, but you can find that somewhere else. No high academic value or programs where the school stands out. This school will make your children mediocre at best, and will not provide the support to take them to the next level. The problems and annoyances with this school will continue pass graduation. They were not able to provide exam scores needed for college credit, and will not respond to calls regarding background checks if you decide to apply for a job. Outstanding school and quality of education. Staff is very dedicated. School is modern, comfortable and well equipped. My Son graduated from Gateway Charter this year and was amazed by the numbers of honor students and students receiving full scholarships. Probably 60% of the entire graduating class of some 150 students, impressive. I would rate the entire Gateway Charter School system at or above most expensive private institutions as I have personally dealt both and would most highly recommend without reservation to any parent. Athletic teams are also most definitely on the rise with some recent new hires. read more

Gateway Charter High School doesn't even deserve 1 star. I attend the high school part, and it is by far the worst school out there. If you ever think about putting your child in this school I highly recommend you don't. Your child will be miserable from the disrespectful students. And the staff is terrible. They don't care about your child at all. If you call the office for a question, they will not answer the phone. My mother left 10 voicemails before having to just go in the school herself.
