It's formulaic but yet something different for this area of Paddington where polished and renovated Queenslanders, sleek Range Rovers and Black Amexs might reign supreme. The coffee is strong and gets better with each sip. My burger is semantically challenged. It arrives on two slices of sourdough and my mind instantly thinks, "Sandwich not burger." Yet as I say: semantics. The beef patty is rustic and plays well with the addition of sauerkraut. As I sink further into the green velvet lounge and spend time watching the world go by on Kennedy Terrace I see the charm of Fox & Rabbit. Formula tweeness or not, this spot is kind of cool.

I can undoubtedly say that this was one of the best avo toasts I've had in a while, mainly because the amount of avocado I got was ridiculously heavenly and it didn't drain my bank account! We booked for 8:30 on a Saturday, and while it wasn't overly full when we arrived, a steady crowd did go through in our time there. The space is breezy and open, and our friends were able to wheel their pram up next to the table. The staff were all so kind and helpful. Our server was happy to fill a cup with hot water to warm a bottle, and they really put the mum at ease. There were several other families with children in high chairs, and it's nice to know there's a place I can bring my mum friends. Even though I had spent days looking over the menu, I panicked upon ordering, because there really were so many things I wanted to try. I opted for the build-your-own breakfast plate. I was a little disappointed with the corn fritters I chose, but having lived in the American south, I have really high fritter standards. I did get a nibble of that bacon ice cream, and I know what I'm ordering next time! The portion sizes are quite large, and it really felt like good value for money. We weren't entirely sure where to park, because it is in the ground level of some units, but there is a nearby parking lot for visitor parking with a short sidewalk around to the restaurant. When I first visited, it was their first week in business and since then they've settled into their cottage cafe. I was pleased to discover they're still pouring Supreme beans and my long iced black was the best accompaniment to a hot Spring day. There's an all day breakfast and a hearty lunch menu featuring items like beef brisket and plenty of vegetables! And, if you're only in the market for elevensies, check out the cake cabinet by the counter - lemon tea cake, raspberry friands - they're all there. I opted to order from the all day breakfast menu and honed straight in one the three cheese toast with buttered asparagus. Regardless of what time of day you're eating this it isn't a large meal - more of an ample snack. Lunch menu is pretty extensive. They serve classic cafe options. Sandwiches, toasties, wraps, fries, soups etc. They have a pretty extensive range of sweets as well. They usually have some kind of drink special on the board behind the counter. Like strawberry lemonade or sweet berry iced teas which I think is nice change from just your usual soft drink/juice/flavoured water you pick from the fridge. Stops me from getting a Tiro every time. The staff are quite friendly and the service is usually very fast. You don't have to wait long for your coffee or meals. You have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating and it is very open. It's a good space for families. Parking can be difficult as it is street only and there's a fair bit of construction around there at the moment. But it's free parking so you win some, you lose some. It's a great place to swing through for a quick take away coffee and sandwich. If you eat in the meals are alright, not the single greatest thing you'll ever eat. Expect your standard cafe fare and you shouldn't really walk away too disappointed.

The staff were also very attentive and cleared away plates as soon as we were done, always asking if we had enjoyed our courses. Essentially, I felt like I was being looked after, and it was nice. Merthyr Road is a really great and lively strip and Vue takes the cake in a really classy way. I recommend it for an intimate dinner with a fresh twist.
