Well, as a fan of all things Mexican and speaking the language, I loved the name. But I wasn't interested in their juices; it was pictures of their smoothie bowls that whet my appetite. We ordered two Chocolate Butter Fudge Smoothie Bowls and chose the large ($18) over the smaller one ($16). And that was a big mistake, literally, because it was h.u.g.e! It was overflowing with so many ingredients (see the menu picture for all of them) we tried in vain to push them back into the cup with many, mostly seeds, sacrificing themselves to the sidewalk below us. However, the flavours were a pleasure on the palette and so densely packed into the container that we only made it halfway through before we popped a lid on them and headed quickly home to refrigerate the leftovers for later. Madre Mia is run by an expatriate Southern Californian named George who's Hispanic (hence the name), super friendly and energetic and turning out some very tasty and sensational smoothie bowls. Next time, knowing what we do now, we'll downsize to the smaller version. Or fast for 48 hours beforehand because that extra $2 for more is a temptation that's hard to ignore.

It's entirely possible we came here 5 weekends in a row! So it's fair to say this is definitely going on the list of favourite brunch places. Consistently: the food is delicious, the coffee is good (they do BOWLS!), the staff are lovely and efficient, the place is big enough that you can usually easily get a table, and there is plenty of street parking around. And it's less than a 10 minute drive from our house. Bonus. They have a range of breakfast & lunch items on the weekend - sweet, savoury, and hearty smoothies or juices - and they are open til 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays, which I like because it means you can come in for a proper lunch instead of just a very late breakfast (sometimes it's just difficult to get out of the house before midday on a Sunday, you know?). They will also try to accommodate any specific dietary requirements, some are marked on the menu but if you can't see it then just ask and they'll work something out if they can. I came here with my mother on one occasion and she was happy, despite her ever-expanding range of food intolerances, so that's quite an achievement. Word of warning though - the Famish'd breakfast (basically the equivalent of a 'big breakfast' anywhere) is GIGANTIC. Order it only if you're prepared to be in a food coma for the rest of the afternoon.

They were busy that day as they were celebrating their 3rd year anniversary since opening, so there was a big line you had to wait in before being served, but the lady at the counter didn't have any knowledge about their other products that were selling. I quickly asked and pretty much got a "I don't know, I'm not sure." Plus a hurry up vibe. So I was just picking a drink and other food not knowing it's contents without properly looking because it was far away from the counter...once I picked out my drink and came back to the counter, my donuts were just pushed to the side and the lady just started serving the next customer, didn't say thank you or bye, didn't offer to print my invoice, so I was awkwardly picking up my items in the middle of them whilst the next person was ordering :| hoping it's just a one off because their donuts are great.

I wanted to with something a bit healthier so I got the Two & Five Juice which is a nice little concoction of orange, apple, carrot, celery and beets. The fruits and vegetables blended together nicely to form a guiltless sweet dessert after a fairly heavy meal. The girl at the counter even asked whether I wanted it over ice! That's a pretty good service considering those pesky cubes of solid water take up so much precious cup space (note* I went ice-less). My girlfriend got a berry smoothie though for the life of me right now I cannot remember which. It tasted pretty good and had a sizable quantity of your typical basic berries. The yogurt mixed well with the other ingredients and came out nicely blended with no traces of chunky ice or otherwise solid material. The service is quick and efficient. Even though there were about 5 people in front of us, we got our drinks shortly after we ordered. They have quite a few blenders and juicing machines working nonstop so we were able to walk away quite satisfied.
