She came back in record time with my long black and a bottle of water randed with the company's name and logo. I was pretty sure I heard her say it was 'complimentary' but was reticent at first to crack the lid, not knowing what sort of charge I might incur. The coffee was quite good -- complex and flavoursome without bitterness -- but it was making me a little thirsty for some palate-cleansing H20, so I opened the bottle. On paying I cleared the matter up. Turns out the water is free, but the coffee was $4, which kind of makes the deal seem a little less good value to me.

My husband ordered the salt and pepper calamari ($22). It didn't take long for our meals to arrive and we eagerly tucked in. Good food, not amazing, but nice. Probably a little overpriced, but I guess that is how they afford to treat their customers with free beers - so I'm not complaining.

I had avocado on toast with poached eggs, and enjoyed my meal - the eggs were runny (though slightly overdone) and the avocado was pretty fresh. The toast was pretty hard though and the coffee wasn't the best, but it was a decent enough meal. My sister didn't quite agree, as her fruit plate came with the grapes still on the stalk, and with parsley sprinkled all over the fruit(?!). Little touches like fresh pepper rather than the powdered variety would have been great, but hey it's a café not a restaurant. The real draw to this place, though, is the view. The food is not spectacular, but I can hardly imaging a better location for a stunning breakfast just 20 minutes outside of a city. For this reason alone, I would definitely return to the Kuta Café, and highly recommend it to both tourists and Brisbane residents alike.

It's got outdoor seating and indoor seating as well as a gift shop, but I recommend the outdoor seating. The view is just magnificent. It's the place to grab your drink and have your snack if you've hiked up the mountain from Chapel Hill... it's a good 30-45 minute trek and you may even bump into people horseback riding. Great little spot, more for morning and night people, the lunch isn't the greatest, but the nachos aren't too bad at all.

Our server was happy to fill a cup with hot water to warm a bottle, and they really put the mum at ease. There were several other families with children in high chairs, and it's nice to know there's a place I can bring my mum friends. Even though I had spent days looking over the menu, I panicked upon ordering, because there really were so many things I wanted to try. I opted for the build-your-own breakfast plate. I was a little disappointed with the corn fritters I chose, but having lived in the American south, I have really high fritter standards. I did get a nibble of that bacon ice cream, and I know what I'm ordering next time! The portion sizes are quite large, and it really felt like good value for money. We weren't entirely sure where to park, because it is in the ground level of some units, but there is a nearby parking lot for visitor parking with a short sidewalk around to the restaurant. Steve keeps a limited range of home-made sweets in store, like muffins and biscuits, but the real focus here is on coffee, not food. They also have a really good variety on the menu including baguettes and sandwiches plus I was really temped by their breakfast menu... must come back for breakfast one day soon. They are a little far, I can walk to at least 3 coffee places from where I work and unfortunately I would have to drive to get to Mila. No problem, possibly they might just become my weekend cafe of choice instead.

Win-win, yes? Well, no. Unfortunately I had consistently bad coffee experiences here. I returned and returned, but it never got any better. When the milk wasn't burnt, the coffee was bitter. The hot chocolate or mocha power just tasted bland. Nobody has time for bad coffee. However the tiny chocolates in the display cabinet were delicious (you'd hope so, given the name of the cafe!), but just not enough to make up for the bad coffee.
