The staff can be rude, indifferent, and sometimes unaccountable. Phone calls rarely get answered in real time. I've never had this experience with another clinic - if they can't answer, most will at least acknowledge you and put you hold. One time I even had to come in person because no one answered the phone, despite being on hold the whole time. When I walked in, there were no other patients in the lobby, so it's unclear why calls aren't answered. Again, there is a pattern of not answering the phone. I also have always found it odd and somewhat off putting that the front counter displays a sign suggesting the "most valuable gift" is promoting referrals to others. Very business forward... The last straw for us was having to wait two weeks for a tech appointment (for an injection) when our dog was itching a lot. They had no other options to help her feel comfortable in the meantime and didn't seem to care, so we ended up going to another vet who could see her the same week. We appreciate the care they gave our dog over the years, and we've always had a positive experience with Dr. Rabbi. Unfortunately, due to the drop in service and attentiveness, we will not be returning.

UPDATE: I want to…read moreclarify several inconsistencies in your response. You told us directly that you did not see what happened and that there were no cameras, which is why we were concerned and asking questions. In this public reply, you now provide specific details that were not communicated to us at the time. You also told us Oso had an amazing stay with no issues. We were never told he was "cranky" or had behavioral concerns, and we do not understand the reference to "his age," as Oso is a young dog. We have text messages showing no issues were reported. Communication was a major issue. We received no proactive updates, had to follow up multiple times, and the last time we heard from you privately was January 5th -- yet you are responding publicly here. You state you offered to cover vet costs, but also describe the refund as a generous gesture. If the refund was meant to resolve everything, that was never communicated. We followed up based on what we were told. You also did NOT check in about how my dog was doing, you only replied because I send you the vet bills. I have the messages here if you'd like me to add them. I was told by you that pressure had to be applied to Oso's eyes to release the other dog; ground beef was never mentioned at the time. We have vet notes and photos showing concerning head injuries that do not align with your explanation. Readers can review both responses and decide. Our review is based on documented texts, veterinary notes, photos, and repeated attempts to resolve this privately. We only asked how our dog was doing with other dogs because again, we had to double text you. It was an excuse to get your attention because we had to double text. The issue has always been lack of communication and transparency, not our dog's behavior. ---------- I normally don't write reviews like this, but I feel like people should know what happened during my dog's stay here. I wasn't told that my dog had been in a fight until about two hours before pick-up. No matter who started it, something that serious should've been communicated right away. If I had known, we could've picked him up immediately or made different plans. Hearing about it last minute, after almost a whole day had passed, just wasn't acceptable. When I arrived to pick him up, he was dirty, injured, and clearly not himself. He didn't look happy at all, and that was really hard to see. It wasn't just a quick scrape, he had multiple injuries that weren't fully explained to us. The owner only mentioned injuries to his paws. When I pointed out the injury to his testicles, he seemed shocked and had no idea it had happened. We were only told about his paws injury that happened while he was put in a cage and got stuck in the cage. That told me my dog wasn't fully checked after the fight and according to the owner he does not know how long he was stuck like that or how it even happened. Throughout his stay, I barely got any updates, just one and only after we double-texted. Before the stay, I sent a long email with important information about my dog's needs and it was never acknowledged. Communication overall was extremely poor. When we talked in person, he thanked me for keeping my composure and being nice about the situation. The truth is, I stayed calm because I didn't want to cause a scene on Christmas Eve but inside I was furious about what happened to our family member. Any dog owner would've felt the same way. To be fair, he did refund us for the boarding costs, and I appreciate that. But the core issue was the lack of communication and not being properly informed about what happened or all the injuries my dog came home with. Later, when I reached out regarding reimbursement for the vet bills and medication, I was told my tone felt intense and that he was dealing with a broken car window. I understand people have personal things going on, but that shouldn't be used to deflect responsibility or avoid responding when someone's pet was injured in their care. After reading other reviews, I realized my experience wasn't isolated. Several people mentioned unreported injuries, minimal updates, and hygiene concerns. It seems like a pattern, not just a one-time mistake. My dog might have enjoyed parts of his stay but none of that erases the fact that I was not notified immediately when something serious happened. I wasn't told the full extent of his injuries until I saw them myself, he wasn't checked thoroughly after the fight and the communication throughout the entire stay was far below what any pet owner should expect. No one wants to pick up their dog on Christmas Eve to find him dirty, hurt and clearly unhappy especially when no one bothered to call. I would include pictures of his injuries to show how serious this was but they are very triggering. Please take this seriously if you are considering boarding your dog here.

Shame on you Wag Hotel!…read more I scheduled boarding for my dog Hans at your facility back on 1/28 in preparation for a trip to Japan on May 3 - 8, which you accepted on 1/31. However, when we arrived at your facility on May 2nd, the day before my flight to Japan, your front desk staff informed me that Hans' 5/2 - 5/8 boarding was being denied due to him having a heart murmur condition. Even though I've been a loyal customer to you for over 10 years; and that Hans' heart murmur condition had already been noted in your system since 2024; and given that my flight to Japan was less than 24 hours away; and given the fact that your facility waited until I was at the checkin desk in order to inform me of Hans' boarding denial; I was still told that there was nothing that your facility could do and that it was simply following company policy. Luckily for me, I demanded to speak with a manager who then took it upon himself to assist me in finding another facility that would board Hans at the very last minute. So kudos to that manager. However, you should know that he had to make several calls going down your "other recommended facilities" list in order to find a facility that was willing to board Hans on such short notice even with him having a preexisting heart murmur condition. So again, kudos to that manager. So unfortunately, this is how our relationship ends after I've been a loyal customer to you for over 10 years. Policy aside, not only should I have been notified far in advance to my May 2nd boarding schedule, but that I should have also been given an accommodation due to the last minute nature of your notification. It was simply amazing to me to hear both your Manager, and your front desk staff all admit that a notification error had, in fact, been made by your boarding authorization unit, but due to company policy there was nothing that could be done and that Hans would simply have to boarded elsewhere. Obviously, both my years of customer loyalty and the fact that your authorization unit had made a horrendous mistake, made absolutely no difference whatsoever in my situation. So goodbye, and again shame on you Wag Hotel!

For years my dog was there five days a week as I commuted into the City, and I always knew she was safe and happy there. Really the best facility for boarding dogs. M.A.B.

Update following the owner (Suzanne)'s response:…read more I appreciate the business taking the time to respond. I want to clarify a few points for transparency and for prospective customers considering Happy Hound. My concern was never the existence of a first-day assessment fee, but the value delivered. I have used dog daycares across NYC, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco and have never encountered one that charges more than a standard daycare day for a first-day evaluation. In many cases, the first day is complimentary. That context shaped my expectations going in. When I called to book, the 3:00pm time slot was the only option presented to me by Happy Hound. At no point during booking--or after the tour--was it communicated that the daycare credit would apply the same way regardless of whether my dog attended for a full day or only a couple of hours. Without that clarity, it is entirely reasonable for a new customer to assume that paying for a full day would result in receiving a full day of care. That is where the communication breakdown occurred. I am not disputing the sequence of events shared in the owner's reply. My concern is with the policy itself--specifically, requiring payment for a full day of daycare while not delivering a full day of service when scheduling limitations come from the business. The outcome was that I paid for care my dog did not receive. A prorated refund for the unused portion of that day would have been a reasonable, customer-oriented resolution. Sharing this simply so other prospective customers understand how the onboarding process and policies work in practice.

She always runs right in when we drop her off and we can tell she has a lot of fun when we watch her on the webcam. Her latest stay was 2.5 weeks and while she was exhausted when we picked her up from playing so much she is very healthy and happy. In situations where our travel plans have delayed us in picking her up, they have always been incredibly kind and understanding. We started adding walks to her long stays so she gets some individual outside time in addition to all day inside playtime. I have nothing but good things to report about the Barkmont and they make being a dog owner in the Bay so much easier. I also think they are just really good people, I heard they now partner with local pet rescues to give their foster dogs some socialization and love. Makes us feel good supporting them. At the other facility, Ollie for the first time displayed separation anxiety. The first time he did so, I thought he was just a bit nervous. The second time he had that look in his eyes that said, "do not leave me." Recently, we returned to the Barkmont. There was and continues to be a completely different response from Ollie. HE CANNOT WAIT TO GET IN THE DOOR AT THE BARKMONT. He absolutely loves the staff - professionals who are all very loving, kind and tender with the dogs. I should add that Ollie is somewhat of a higher maintenance dog - a 2-year-old 80 lb Samoyed who is an attention hound. I really like that the Barkmont has cameras so that you can log into to see how your fur baby is doing during a stay. The dogs are constantly monitored by staff who are in the various rooms - to ensure that no one gets out of line. Alot of additional services - meals, walks, bath etc. Kirk and Amanda - the owners both love dogs. They have provided in my opinion the VERY BEST DAYCARE FACILITY in the Bay Area.

While I spent a lot of money, I was happy to know that my dog finally got some treatment for his arthritis. Due to my schedule, they scheduled me for his monthly Librela shot at the Pacific location. I got a call today (on the day of his appointment) saying that I need a record of his vaccinations before he can get his second dosage of Liberla shot. During the first visit, they never once mentioned that I need to submit his record of vaccinations, as I don't have them. They said that according to CA law, they can't give him his Librela shot without the rabies booster, which is understandable, but I wish they would have told me that even prior to sedating him, giving him X-rays and his first dosage of Librela. Since my dog desperately needs his Librela shot today, I asked if they could comped the $37 rabies shot. They said "no". I spent $1800 on the first vet visit and his monthly Librela shot is $180. I would have never done that if I would have known about their requirements and terrible customer service. The reception stood firm on their $37 rabies shot requirement, never apologized or even empathized with my frustration. It's ridiculous how fast they take our money, then make rules and refuse to compromise because they know that our pets need the car. Very disappointing.
