I've been there many times before and if you asked me previously what rating this place deserved, it'd be five stars across the board. Today I come with a warning. Their food is fantastic which one would want for the high prices they charge. However you better hope there isn't a mistake with your order or you didn't take any of them back for any reason.
I ordered a cocktail from the menu and found it was nothing like how I last had it. I know this because the garnish had changed and the ingredients have changed slightly. (now the name doesn't make sense, but that's beside the point) I wasn't a fan of the new version so I took it back and asked for the new ingredient removed. The revised version still wasn't to my liking, but I decided that it wasn't worth pushing further so I accepted being charged for the one cocktail. I didn't want their effort to go to waste.
Normally in this situation, a bar or a restaurant would charge for only the one drink, but that doesn't seem to be in Pacinos' policy judging by the disdain I got when I corrected the owner at the counter. She thinks that because they had to redo that one drink that I shouldn't order from their cocktail menu anymore 'because it's expensive to make these drinks' as she put it. Then why do you serve them if having one go to waste is too much of a financial strain on your business? Better yet, why as the customer should I care? If I really wanted to push, I'd not pay for the drink I barely touched. However I wanted you and your staff to at least get something for your trouble and this is the thanks I get?
That wasn't the only mistake. Only one Lemon Lime and Bitters drink was ordered, but it was written as two. Easy mistake to make and any other establishment would correct the issue with a smile. Not here apparently. The grumbling and push done to me and my fellow company over who was right or wrong was appalling.
I can not believe that this is the same woman who many many years ago offered me something to read when I waited alone. Her hospitality alone was what kept me coming back during the days they were located next to take-out joints and hardly anyone turned up. Now? She seems more bitter than the drink that was ordered. I'm not sure if it was a bad night or what, but the charm has gone and I don't see myself wanting to be subjected to that judgemental tone anymore.
Also don't bother thinking that booking for a table early will get you a good table. Other places will mark one table with a 'reserved' label, but that's not the case here. They scrambled to fit my group despite us booking in the middle of the day for a 7:00PM dinner seating.
If you do decide to go, pray that they don't mess up your order. Otherwise you're in for a bad time. They should count their lucky stars that there isn't better dining in this town otherwise they'd be in big trouble. read more
