We felt lucky with our first,…read morewho was a recommendation, but when he moved out of state we were faced with the daunting task of interviewing contractors and soliciting recommendations on Facebook and Nextdoor. We found one but then went through a painful kitchen renovation and house extension with someone who nickel'd and dimed us on the smallest things, gave the bare minimum of support, and provided sub-par work in the end. I'm still bothered by the crooked kitchen entry that's off center and unexplained creakiness in one corner of the room. In the middle of our kitchen reno, our friend had just finished a garage conversion with Joseph and was raving about his quality work and attention to detail. With our latest phase we had an idea of what we wanted and called Joseph to discuss the project. Through his experience building multi million dollar homes and countless renovations he listened to what we were thinking but then provided a few alternatives that ended up working better for our house (and budget) in the long run. We ended up splitting a large bathroom into two bathrooms, which enabled us to convert two bedrooms into master bedrooms that we see so often in new builds. In addition we closed a rarely used dining room and converted it into an office/spare bedroom. All Joseph's suggestions really aimed to maximize the use of our house while keeping a good flow. Of course he could've just done what we asked and taken our money, but what anyone really wants is a partner that looks out for your best interest because he really cares about each project and each client. We went from a 3 bedroom 3 bath to a 4 bedroom 4 bath using our current space and it was so well done that my sister commented that she couldn't even tell that it wasn't this way in the first place. Joseph's sub-contractors are all amazing and friendly people who all aim to provide the best work possible. He has a great relationship with all the people from which we needed extra work and you can tell that they made themselves especially available because of their relationship with him. Joseph was at our home almost every day to make sure everything was progressing to his high standards and he was extremely responsive when we needed to talk to him. Joseph is also one of the most honest people I've worked with and you can tell he truly cares about each and every client. After the Eaton Fire, heavy winds and rain had blown away and damaged shingles on our roof. Water began leaking into one of our bedrooms and left water spots on the dining room ceiling. What could have been a nightmare repair project turned into a smooth and reassuring process thanks to the team at FHS Construction. From the start, the crew was thorough in their inspection and diagnosis. They quickly identified the source of the leak and checked for hidden damage in the roof and ceilings. To prevent more water from coming in, they put up a temporary cover right away until the full repair could begin. The roof repair itself was handled professionally from top to bottom. Damaged shingles and underlayment were removed and replaced, everything was thoroughly inspected and sealed tightly to prevent future problems. Inside the bedroom, they removed water-damaged drywall and insulation, treated and cleaned areas affected by moisture and mold, and ensured the space was completely dried out before restoring it. When the remediation was complete, they patched everything up with new drywall, fresh paint, trim work and new carpet so the room looked as good as new. The same attention was given to the dining area ceiling where water spots had formed. The crew was consistently punctual--showing up on time every morning--and respectful of our home. We are seriously happy with the results. The roof is secure, the bedroom looks brand new, and the whole experience was far less stressful than we expected given the circumstances.
