We checked into the Pacific Plaza Resort on Easter Sunday and checked on Wednesday (3 nights, April 9-12, 2023). We had booked 2 units (509 and 604). I my 2 boys and I stayed in 509 and my parents and sister stayed in 604. Each unit was a 1 bedroom condo with a couch that pulls out into a full sized bed (sheets and blanket are rolled up and kept in a garbage bag on the top shelf in the closet) in the living room and a full kitchen (pot, pan, plates and utensils for 4, also dish soap, sponge and dish drying rack, no dishwasher). Bathrooms include 4 bath towels, 2 hand and 2 face towels and also comes with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Location is great! It is located Pier Avenue (off of Hwy 1) and Air Park Dr in Oceano. It is directly across the street from the Oceano/Pismo State Beach Campground and Oceano Dunes Visitor's Center. We booked this place on Expedia, but you can book through various other hotel sites. It is a 5-7 minute walk to the Oceano beach and ATV rental facilities for the Oceano Sand Dunes, so if you are looking to play at the dunes, you can't beat this location! It is less than a 10 minute drive to downtown Pismo Beach and the Pismo Beach Pier. This resort is unique in that each unit is individually owned by someone (owners are only allowed to stay here for 88 days/year, no weekend or holidays, rent it out the rest of the time), so each unit is decorated differently and interior upkeep is done mainly by the owner as well. Therefore some units may be more remodeled or older than others. The on-site rental management office closes by 9pm, so if you are arriving later, then contact the office to make arrangements. Unit 509: located on the second floor and faces the parking lot and rental office. From the upstairs balcony, you can see the Elk's Lodge RV Parking and distantly behind would be the the Oceano Sand Dunes Beach, but it is blocked by the RV's and other buildings. Overall the interior is in decent condition, but the front door and jamb needs paint. The baseboards in the bathroom needs paint and caulking as the water tends to splash out after showering. The carpet in the bedroom is starting to wear and should be replaced soon. There are double sinks in the bathroom, so it makes getting ready in the morning routine and for bed easy. The first step of the stairs that leads up to the unit is a nailed price of wooden board versus concrete/stucco like the other steps. The best thing about this unit is the beach house theme decor which was very cute. The worst thing about this unit is that the wifi sucks inside and most of the time it doesn't work despite it showing 2-3 bars of signal. On the bed in the bedroom the wifi works a half the time, but nowhere else unless you are standing next to the front door or sitting outside in the balcony. Unit 604: located on the first floor facing Air Park Dr. Fortunately that road is not traveled on much so it is not noisy. This unit does not have any carpet, just laminate throughout. There is also only 1 sink in the bathroom and there are no towel holder for the hand towel. Upkeep in this unit is slightly better than the unit 509 that I was in, but the toilet flush lever did snap on the last night there (had a crack in it on arrival). The worst part of this room is that it is on the first floor, so you can hear the person walking around upstairs. The best part of this unit is that the wifi works great throughout the unit, so my kids wanted to spend more time in this unit while we're were there. Overall, this is a great place to stay due to the location, but also for the space and convenience of having a full kitchen. Not sure about during peak season, but for the time we went for Easter break for the kids, we paid less around $380 for 3 nights on 509 (basic condo) and around $418 for unit 604 (premium condo). I'm not really sure the difference between the basic and premium units as each one has its own plus and minuses. My pictures are from unit 509 that I stayed in. read more

I enjoyed staying here. It was like a home away from home. it had a full kitchen. The bedroom was separate from the front rooms. Also a nice little porch on the front with seating. check in was very easy. Everything was very clean no complaints at all it even had all the dishes and silverware in the kitchen, we would stay here again! We had room #407. read more

I am a local who has stayed here a few times. In the past the gal who worked here at the front desk was professional and kind. This time the new gal was gruff and unprofessional. Additionally, the place has really gone downhill since I was there last a year ago. It was filthy. The freezer hadn't been cleaned in a long time and had hair in it. The floors were filthy and there was a big spot in front of the refrigerator where someone had obviously spilled something. My feet stuck to the floor there. When I pointed this out to the front desk gal she said, oh they are all like that, it's stains. It was not stains. It needed to be cleaned. The bedspread had not been laundered. There are homeless people camping in front of the "resort" . They were noisy and arguing. There was a fan running in the bathroom that could not be turned off so I closed the door. When I woke up in the morning and went to use the bathroom I was locked out. There was no one there to unlock the door for me. Avoid this place and go to Pismo Lighthouse Suites! I have never been charged a deposit for my service animal but she charged me 100 deposit, ( unlawful ). I have called 3 times and left a message after the "deposit" posted toy account. I still have not received a return phone call. read more

Looking thru the photos from other guests we must have gotten lucky since our room was clean and well decorated. The unique thing about this place is how some of the units are outside of the compound. But location is overall safe. read more

Not impressed at all considering the prices. The studio was not very clean. A quick wipe to the bathroom counter and table was noticeable (I won't mention the microwave). Coffee choice was terrible, should not be called "coffee". The towels were well wormed and thin. Sorry, but I won't be returning; Very disappointed. Could not get a hold of anyone at the office to mention all of this. read more

Okay. This is not what I expected. When I walked in, its about the size of an apartment. I am not really a local of the bay area, but my family has been around here for several rooms. I got condo 307 for about $130 and I think that was a good deal. The living room has a smart tv, so you aren't stuck to cable. It is someone's vacation home, but it is cool to use for the price that it is. It has a full fridge unlike other places, and very fast internet. In the kitchen, the view is perfect. You can see the water from there. The neighbors arent noisy which is cool. You get your own pin, no need to check in at the office. You get a email from the hotel whenever its ready with your pin code and how to check in. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating. The room has a huge bed and a couch pullout. Also came with a DVD player, which I thought it was cool to have just in case, as there are two of them. The TV's have usable ports and original remotes which mean you can change your input to a TV box for example. Would come again. read more

I am extremely unhappy with your facility. I was told my room will have a bathtub that has jets. It does not. We went to the front desk but nobody was there. We called the number that was both in the email and on your front desk door and no answer, I could literally hear the phone ringing in there and my voice as I left a voicemail. Why even leave a number to call if you're not in house to answer it or even return the call. Next, the tv in our room is stuck on a basketball channel with no way to change the channel as the remote does not have an "exit" button like the tv tells you to push to be able to access anything other than the channel it's stuck on. The tv in the living room has random adds that keep popping up on the side of the screen durring whatever program we are watching and the volume goes from really quiet to ridiculously loud when it switches to commercials. To top it off, I was told about the jacuzzi when I confirmed my reservation. I was really still holding onto hope for that after realizing our room doesn't have a tub with jets like I was told upon reservation. We get to the jacuzzi and find it without lights on and ice cold. We turned the jets on and they run cold. I am so bummed out about this entire stay. We just got engaged and this was suppose to be a nice little break for us to get away for a night, and this room and property were a complete let down. Who can I talk to about this because we paid almost $200 for one night with conditions like a stated. At this point I wish we would have just stayed home. read more

This place is good yet bad. Customer service is downright doodoo. I was standing at the window, front desk is gossiping with a coworker, turns to look at me, and proceeds to keep gossiping. I had to knock on the window to get her attention, and she rudely acknowledged me finally. The rest of our interaction was not pleasant at all. Hard to get good customer service these days. Rooms were nice and well furnished. No complaints there. Overall, customer service is a part of the product you're selling. The room is why I'm giving 2 instead of 1 star. read more

Run from this place. From the outside it wasn't so bad. We had the worst night ever and no hotel staff to assist. If you have any need to communicate with the staff, they do not answer phones and the main line in the room doesn't function. They place a sign in the room to call the local police for any issues which is actually illegal per the police. I was double charged on my card and the staff management would not return my calls or refund my money. I would do your research before having to ever come close to this place. I won't even bother going into the lack of cleanliness details. read more

Outrages prices for old run down rooms. Charged me $516 per night!! WAY overpriced, nothing resort about this place. Never again.

I have mixed feelings but overall, I would return. I paid $272. per night including taxes, which might've been averaged out since it included a Sunday night. My strongest recommendation is that you call to confirm your reservation and also clarify whether they show you have prepaid any of the reservation. You might have to leave a message, but they will return your call. These are apparently individually owned condos, and not a hotel. It was nice that the front desk called while I was traveling, to notify me there was a fire slowing one of the routes in. Unfortunately, I saw information on my email reservation showing the front desk closes at 10pm on Saturdays and somewhere else said 9pm, but the staff said she closes at 8pm. They will apparently leave keys in a lockbox if you call before they close. Our condo was on the 2nd floor, no elevator, so be prepared if you have to make a couple trips up and down. The condo was nicely furnished and the beds were super comfortable. The condo and linens were clean. The kitchen is very basic, so don't expect to cook complicated meals with the available implements, and unlike the air bnbs I've stayed at, there wasn't even salt and pepper in the cupboard. The fireplace was very welcome, as the evenings were chilly. It was nice that all the guest were good about observing quiet hours. Make sure you are parked in the lot before 9pm on the weekend, because every space was full, and the street parking was taken up by homeless in their RVs and cars ( I personally wouldn't walk around on the street at night, but the complex feels safe.) Also, don't count on doing laundry. There are only two washers and two dryers for the complex, and a lady doing laundry at 2pm said the housekeeper had been using one of the washers and dryers all day long. I had a 30 minute wait to wash one load and a 30 minute wait to dry. It closes at 6pm. The location is fantastic, and I liked the quiet. There were no major issues with our stay. I would bring a few things for the kitchen, next time. read more

Excellent 2 night stay at this quaint hotel right by the Oceano dunes (and just minutes from downtown Pismo Beach via car). Check in and check out was super easy and our room was nicely decorated. The bathroom was huge too! TV worked perfectly fine, which I don't always find at hotels. My only issue was that our room wasn't cleaned when we came back to the hotel the next night. Overall, very good deal compared to other hotels in the area. read more

This was my first time booking a hotel on my own, and Pacific Plaza made it very easy! I booked my stay for 1 night through Booking.com. The hotel made the check in and check out process super quick and efficient. I enjoyed having everything in the hotel labeled, such as the light switches so it made navigating the room better. We stayed in the deluxe queen suite with 4 people and it was perfect size! 2 queen beds, living room with a fireplace, and a mini kitchen. Also a convenient walk to the beach and dunes, a little liquor store and Old Juan's Cantina :) Will definitely be back for future stays!! read more

Wonderful stay and we will definitely return! The name leads one to think that this is a standard hotel. Far from the reality that each "room" is actually a managed condo. The two star rating should be replaced by a 4 star rating. Our condo (#608) was wonderfully decorated and like new in every way. Top of the line small appliances fill the clean and tidy kitchen with 4 burner gas stove/oven and 3/4 fridge/freezer. The living room with pull out bed sits near the gas fireplace. A flatscreen TV (w/DVD), coffee table and secretary desk makes for a welcoming space. This area is separated by a pocket door from the bedroom. A large king size bed with comfortable linens and a ton of pillows gave a restful sleep without any disturbances or outdoor noises. A high table with chairs sits next to the window and a smaller flat screen TV w/DVD sits on a dresser. Bathroom has open sink area and enclosed bath/shower and commode. Plenty of towels and small toiletries. Very clean and well cared for. So glad that we passed by the Pismo Beach hotels and stumbled upon this wonderful property after a sunset drive on the beach. We will certainly be back! Oh, by the way.... $89 for the night! (mid September) WOW!!! What an incredible deal! read more

We were in town as I needed to go to Mentor training at Grizzly Academy in San Luis Obispo. Prices seemed high in San Luis Obispo for President's Day Weekend. I chose to take a gamble on Hotwire ..... it said: by the beach, Condo, Laundry facilities, 2 stars, $87 a night x2 nights + tax/fee of $27.47 = $201.47 First of all ....this place isn't 2 stars ...it's higher. The place was great. Clean non smoking 1 bedroom suite. Small kitchen & dining, living room with gas fireplace & convertible sofa. A pocket door separates the living space from the bedroom. They had 2 small TVs (not flat screen). The living room had a VCR/DVD combo & the bedroom had a DVD player. We weren't there to watch TV so it wasn't a big deal. We did have an incident occur. The manager was so kind and gracious that I'm not even going to mention it. Bring your swimsuit for the spa (I forgot mine). Here is what was weird ....... No ice. No ice machine and the ice maker in our room #409 wasn't hooked up. We just stuck the drinks in the fridge.. they were cold enough. They no longer serve continental breakfast. That was fine by us because the portions at Old Juan's Cantina were huge. I bought the shrimp fajitas. I had enough leftovers to make my husband and I a shrimp breakfast burrito. Yummy. ;-D This place is located 1 big block away from one of the coolest beaches in California. It is the only State Beach that you are allowed to drive your car on the beach ($5). We plan to return and take advantage of the beach, the cars, ATVs and horseback riding. The location is just great! Nearby there is Pier liquor. Also ....... the Pismo Beach Prime Outlets are just off the freeway off-ramp on 333 Five Cities Drive. As Arnold Schwarzenegger would say...."I'll be back!" read more

What a hidden gem. Definitely staying again in the future. The suites are totally worth it. The decor totally sets the mood. Super convenient location. Liquor store across the street. A quick walk to a beach and also a restaurant by the light. You can heart the ocean in the room even with windows and door closed. Not crowded at all, such a quiet location and attractions like the Monarch butterfly cove are a quick 10 min drive. 2nd floor suites have a private patio. Can't wait to go back. read more

Not happy. I booked a night, but didn't notice that their cancellation policy was SO MUCH DIFFERENT than other hotels where I couldn't cancel the day before. NOT FLEXIBLE! Then, when I tried calling and CALLING to see if I could switch the date, NOBODY PICKED UP THE PHONE. It's the FIRST TIME EVER where I've called a hotel and they didn't pick up (I left a message) and they called me back after 9am the next day. I'm going to dispute the charge because I don't want to stay at a hotel where they don't answer the phone when I call. What if I have a concern that's not an emergency????? Absolutely not ok! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL !!! read more

Don't waste your money. Location is fabulous, but that's about it. Problems getting an itemized bill, no day to day service, kitchen is BARELY stocked-not even salt and pepper, no instructions for ANYTHING, couldn't get either TV's to work, nobody answered the office phone to get help, lamps all unplugged, shower head calcified with a dribble of water, sofa bed? OMG, not foam, SPRINGS,worst ever, King size in bedroom actually pretty good. $75 a night...pushing it. $250? You're kidding me. The room itself was doing the best it could within the actual resort. No posted times for daily closures of amenities; if you are going to cut off access to the grills and spa well before 10pm please have the decency to post this "policy". I'd have been better off booking an actual hotel room or pitching a tent across the street. There are better places to stay in this beautiful area. read more

Some might think it's outdated or old, but I think it has a nice beach feel to it. It's literally right down the street from the Sand Dunes too! The place reminded me of a mini beach cottage or a small air bnb rather than a hotel. The room had a mini kitchen, living room, and a HUGE BED! The living room had a nice flat screen tv and the bed room had a regular older box tv. Everything was very clean and stocked. There were dvds and game boards in the living room cabinets and the kitchen had utensils and basic kitchen supplies! For under $100/night, I highly recommend this place if you plan to be around Pismo, SLO, or Avila area. read more

Wanted to post an update to my original review. We stayed at Pacific Plaza Hotel last year, and have booked again for later this year. Thanks again to the friendly staff. Keep up the great work! It's appreciated. :) read more

The room we stayed in was 202, it was through Air BnB not the actual hotel. The room was gorgeous and well decorated; props to the owners for that. Horrible. We had our room reserved for 6 months. Confirmed a month before and a few days before. Got here to the hotel and they let the current guest extend their stay. No phone call or anything. We had the room confirmed with a credit card. No manager on duty and the girl at the front desk said I just work here. Horrible service and horrible reservation system. Stay somewhere else. Update... Don't come on here with fake apology's to make yourself look better. This has happened two times now. We contacted manager and was basically told too bad. Nobody cares so save your fake apology. read more

Stayed here for 2 nights. Love the kitchen, open floor plan, and fireplace. Had a huge California king but it was so uncomfortable. I had spring indentations in my hips from sleeping on that bed. At least put a mattress pad or something on top. It killed my mood for the rest of the trip because my back was killing me. Slept on the couch the second night but it wasn't much better. At least I didn't feel the springs in my back all night. read more

We spent about a week here after a tree smashed our house during a storm. Lots to love about this place. It's quiet (room 610), has a kitchen with dishes and basic cookware, TVs and DVD players in living room and bedroom, but the cable for the DVD player in the bedroom must be bad--movies showed up in black and white. Cool Roku TV in living room plays netflix, amazon prime and other options, as well as regular "antenna/cable" channels. Pictures posted from other reviews are accurate. Our condo faced the side street where the little airport is and was really pleasant. Concerns: terribly uncomfortable king size bed. This really must be upgraded, so 1 star off for that. Absolutely horrible wifi. Spotty service, can't load normal webpages like news, facebook, and I couldn't send emails with attachments (no, it's not my computer, because it works at home and at places with free wifi like Starbucks). Really bugged about this because we ended up using our mobile data and went over our plan limits, so another star off for that. Also, there is an open laundry room that I suspect homeless people (or people who are camping nearby) are using: this facility should be a keyed entry for guests only. The location of this place is cool: there is a park nearby with the Oceano lagoon meandering through, the new Nature Center across the street, the famous dunes where you can drive on the beach are just down the street. Great grub at Old Juan's Cantina and a liquor store are in the vicinity (always a must when your house has been rendered uninhabitable). Ultimately, the place is good, but could be great. :D read more

My only complaint is that the coffee here is absolute trash. Also the rooms could use updating and better cleaning. Everything else was amazing the suite was so nice and bed comfortable. Ideal location! Right by the dunes. One of my favorite places read more

Do not book on their website! They were all booked and still charged my card for the amount of a room and this was a month ago! I'm still trying to get my money back. I've contacted my bank. No one at this establishment has even been of assistance to try and resolve this. All they said to me was I'm sorry but we're booked and we don't show a reservation for you. I've called and left messages as well as emails. I've yet to hear back. Again this was in June! read more

It's graduation weekend at Cal Poly SLO and there's no room for rent in SLO. What do you do? Try the next city over with open rooms! Luckily for some of us, Pacific Plaza Resort had a room available. We were thinking it was just a hotel room, no big deal. But we were pleasantly surprised to see it be more like a 1 bedroom apartment! There's a California King in the bedroom with a single sink leading into the bathroom (toilet/shower/tub). We also had a full kitchen (albeit small) with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishes/utensils. Pretty cool! If we wanted to make cup ramen, we totally could. Or reheat leftovers from dinner, which we totally did, after doing a quick nighttime trek to the beach. The beach is within walking distance but it's cooler just to drive onto the beach. That alone just thrilled some of us in the car. We've never driven on the beach before and now we are craving to go atv'ing there. The place is great for the price and what you get. Yes, it's totally chintzy and dated but as a last minute booking for a graduation at the biggest university in a 15 mile radius, it's great! Now, time to plan our next trip to Pismo Beach! read more

We have stayed here several times but this time was not good. Bed horrible and A.C. did not work. It also did not feel clean. Apparrently the rooms are seperately owned so some are nicer than others so I was a little dissapointed read more

I'm giving 2 stars only because it didn't seem clean. Felt filthy, to go into a place to stay & feel like everything is dirty is not a good feeling. I tried to give this place a chance, looked really nice & cozy from the pictures & made it seem like it was a big place to stay. I was also under the impression that is what a squeaky clean place but it wasn't. I booked two rooms for my family & I. My room's tv remote had rubber band around it. Like we spend this much money, & you can't get a new remote ? Or order a part for the remote ? That's definitely not a good look. Wanted me make coffee, I opened it up where we add water... looked inside & it was dried coffee & dust inside. I'm a coffee drinker & that was going to be the first thing to do in the am. Brew up some good hot coffee but had to wait to get to a breakfast place to drink my coffee. As for the customer service. I don't want to say it was bad, but I didn't feel it was all that good. The lady would talk over me, wouldn't let me finish talking either lol I was getting a little irritated by that. She tells me to initial the paper that was given to me saying I understand & agree to the terms or rules. And she only expected me to read only that part Next to my initials. Above it was a paragraph & grid. I was trying to read that as well, & she seemed bothered with it. Rudely interrupted me & told me don't worry about it to just read the bottom & sign my initials........... I'm sorry but any paper I'm signing and leaving my initials I will be reading the whole page. I had to lie to her & tell her I wasn't reading the top half of the paper. I don't know what the issue was but it was like I was being rushed. I don't like to get rushed, especially where I put my money in. I wasn't there no more than 5 min. I got 2 rooms & arrived there at 3pm, only 1 room is ready. I do understand that check in at 4pm. But I asked if the other room was ready & she said "no, I mean check in is at 4pm" she said it with sarcasm & attitude. Like I was just asking no need to get smart. There was another issue with this lady over the phone but I'm not going to get into that.... WOULD I COME HERE AGAIN? DEFINITELY NOT! WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE? DEFINITELY NOT! It needs an upgrade bad... smells moldy Just all around very disappointed. Bread was in the mini oven from who knows when with bread crumbs .... just disgusted overall, I'm sorry. read more

I'm a fan. Normally, I camp out on the beach, but I have a 4 month old baby who I find wasn't quite ready for the loud 4 wheelers at night. I find this hotel very convenient, especially if you don't plan on camping out at Oceano Dunes which is about 5 minutes away walking distance. The room I've booked had full amenities: a full size kitchen, living room with a pull out bed couch & flat screen TV, and one large bedroom with a king size bed. I'm very anal when it comes to cleanliness, and I find this hotel super clean. I plan to use Pacific Plaza Resort again in the near future... read more

Furniture may be dated and amenities rudimentary, however this place sure beats sleeping on the ground or in a trailer on Pismo Beach. For me, at least. Because I don't do camping or anything that remotely requires the use of public restroom with no light and no flush button on the toilets. I'm spoiled like that. I fully blame my parents. So, Pacific Plaza Resort is a gem. The little room that we stayed at, with the massive heat bulbs in the bathroom was indeed a nice place to come back to after a day of ATV-ing and subjecting your skin to the ruthless sun (not without SPF-50!). I checked my burnt-as-a-toast self out in the mirror, wondered for a few seconds if the constant sun exposure is going to take its toll on my skin soon, shrugged the thought off, and jump in the hot shower. read more

This place was simple but had everything we needed. It's not glamorous, but it's clean and had a full kitchen for cooking that gorgeous Central Coast produce. I had seen the beautiful fruits and veggies at the SLO Farmers Market and I couldn't buy them because there was no kitchen in the hotel. But here I was able to cook all these beautiful things for a fabulous California breakfast. And just a short walk away is the Oceano dunes which is a pretty miraculous thing.
