Thank you Graham and staff at Pacific Pet Resort!!! I sent out an inquiry on Saturday morning for pet boarding near Oceanside for my dog while we were evacuated from our home in Thousand Oaks. Figuring we needed to get away from the smoke, we decided to drive out towards San Diego until the evacuation orders were lifted for our area. The owner, Graham called me to offer boarding for the next two nights at no charge to help us due to the fire. When we brought Sunny in that afternoon, they had already called our vet to verify his vaccinations and he was quickly checked in. The lady who checked him in advised that they would bathe him as well free of charge. I don't love this place because when first boarding here for the daycare they were not honest and forthcoming about how they don't let your dog stay in the open play area for the entire duration of their stay. If they had been transparent about this policy they would be receiving a higher rating. Upon picking my dogs up I noticed they weren't being brought in from the park portion but rather the boarding/runs portion. It took me inquiring about why this happens for them to tell me that dogs are periodically put in the boarding portion throughout their stay, for up to hours on end. I'm disappointed with this policy because I have a high energy dog that needs the all day exercise. Unfortunately it's the closest dog daycare to me so I'll continue to use their service when needed. read more

DANGER INCOMPETENT BUSINESS!! MANUEL SENT MY PUPPY HOME BLOODY AND MISSING CANINE TOOTH! I boarded my two Belgian Malinois puppy's with Oceanside Pet Hotel. Upon returning from my trip I picked up my dogs who HAVE boarded there before...they were so anxious they urinated and defecated all over the lobby, hotel attendant and myself. My male puppy was bleeding from his nose. His muzzle looked like a cheese grater had been run over it... I hope it will let me post pictures here but if not I will provide my personal email below to provide pictures to anyone interested in the truth. I put the puppy's in the car and went back in to have a word with staff. Manuel was not able to see me. His daughter told me she would have him call me, which he NEVER did. Until I had a bitch fit with staff! When I took a closer look at my puppy and his injury s ...i found him MISSING A CANINE TOOTH!! My puppy was less than a year old with beautiful white teeth. If you know the breed Belgian Malinois, teeth are pretty important factor . Not to mention that he couldn't even eat his mouth hurt so bad. When Manuel finally got back to me his attitude was flippant and casual.. he told me my other puppy was fine so he did something right! The staff has specific boarding instructions as previously noted during the last boarding session. I was never contacted about a problem or incident during their stay. When I called and checked in I was told they were fine. I took my puppy to the vet, he needed oral surgery to remove the root. 1500.00 vet bill. Plus boarding fee's. So basically I paid over $2,000 to have my dog abused. My phone calls ignored. And then my concerns treated as if this was no big deal. We will pursue this legally in court. Shame on you Manuel and your staff. My puppy's face is still not completely normal. He was a purebred. With the intention of breeding rights. We could have settled this. I'm not one of those girls nor is my husband that carry around little purse dogs. This isn't my first Malinois or Shepherd. I'm familiar temperament of this breed in particular. I'm also familiar with the fact that this breed with its physical capabilities and Furious loyalty to instinctually protect, loose teeth in combat or in the line of duty. My dog was doing neither of these. He was a puppy that I entrusted in the care of Oceanside Pet Hotel with current Specific Instructions. I attempted to for months now with absolutely no success or compassion whatsoever from Manuel or his staff. Manuel self-proclaimed dog trainer for Belgian Malinois, police and military K-9 units, has proven to us and our canine family that he cares a bit more about money than the well-being and Humane treatment of animals. read more

I needed some time before I wrote this review. Last week I dropped my dog for 5 nights/6 days. I was told on day 3 that she isnt eating, which I kind of expected so I was ok with that. But then I called for updates. When I would call for an update, I would get some very young girl on the phone. She never knew how my dog was doing. Every time i asked if she's eating, comfortable or taking her medication, the response was usually 'I think....' I had to ask for her to ask the kennel attendant but she wouldn't, she kept saying things along the lines of 'I'm sure that's what they did'. I was told they didnt even attempt to put her in group play because her breed is too dominant (she's mixed with pit bull). Really?!?! The first time I called to let them know I'm picking her up early, everything was arranged. I called a hour later (during business hours), I got their voicemail and no called me back. I called the next day and no one knew about the arrangement. It's been a 5 days since I picked her up and she has an upper respiratory infection and large wounds on her back legs. They look like she either dragged or was laying on really hot cement. I'm very upset and disappointed about the whole experience. read more

After speaking with someone on the phone i decided I would give them a shot and brought my puppy in for temperament testing. When i got there they told me my dog, an american staffordshire aka "pit bull" would not be allowed to play with the other dogs because "pit bulls are unpredictable." STUPIDEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD! All animals are somewhat unpredictable and i am fully aware of our societys general pit bull ignorance but if you have a business providing services for animals, get some education. Bad owners are the problem for this beautiful breed, not the dog itself. Absolutely terrible business practice! After leaving their esthetically run down facility we took my "unpredictable" pit bull to the nearby dog park where she played perfectly with all the dogs, as she always has. The only incident we had was as we were leaving we had to pass the small dog play area where a small dog charged the fence and barked ferociously at my dog. My dog completely ignored it! That's typical pit bull behavior.....morons! Luckily there is a beautiful facility around the corner that will be getting my business....and the pleasure of taking care of my beautiful baby. read more

We've been taking our English Bulldog Hank here for years, for both overnight boarding and doggy daycare. He LOVES it. When I'm dropping him off, he always gets so excited and runs right in, and always comes home happy and worn out at the end of the day. The staff is so friendly and helpful, and you can tell they are all animal lovers. They are really quick to point out any times he's exhibited "off" behavior, or once when they noticed he had a strange bump on his paw (not caused there, I had already seen it). Reading through some of the other reviews, I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum... I'm REALLY glad Oceanside Pet Hotel does temperament testing and won't allow aggressive breeds. I love all dogs, and people have the choice to own whatever breed they want to, but that doesn't mean I want to be worried about a stranger's aggressive dog roaming around with my dog all day long. Just my opinion, but if you choose to own that type of dog, you should be prepared that some establishments won't allow aggressive breeds. The base price for boarding is fairly reasonable, but I tend to elect all sorts of extras that up the cost a bit, like all day group play and picture updates sent while he's staying there (which is AWESOME). It's totally worth it for the peace of mind that he's in good hands. read more

My husband and I were moving to Oceanside from Japan and needed a kennel for our two dogs, one a very anxious/fearful pit bull mix and our pretty easy-going Am. bulldog mix. After reading reviews on Yelp and speaking with them on the phone, we booked our dogs in for two weeks while we got settled in California. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our concerns over our "children" when checking in. What sold them 100% for me was that our super nervous guy, who has been known to bite when scared and meeting new people, ran right up to them and was very comfortable. If he is happy, all is ok in our world. Each time we went to visit or take them our for a walk, they both came out with wagging tails and big smiles. They were well behaved for all the staff members (even the guys, which is unheard of for them) and were not scared to go back when their walk was over. The staff would come out with a story about one of them that just reassured they were getting all the attention I wanted them to have. I would not hesitate to recommend Oceanside Pet Hotel to anyone in need of a kennel for their furry family member. read more

4.5 stars would have been a perfect rating. I was very nervous to leave my kitten somewhere, but both ladies I met were very welcoming and reassuring. The facility is clean and smells good. I had Nala there for 6 hours and when I brought her home, boy was she tired! I'm not sure if Nala was drained from the stress of being away from home for the first time or from the nice ladies playing with her. All in all, it's very affordable and my baby is safe with a clean bill of health so I would recommend this place. read more

I'd never left her with anyone besides family before, so I was nervous but had hear good things about this place from people at the dog park in Carlsbad. The staff was very friendly and sweet to my dog, who was very nervous. We paid extra to have some play time on the first day and then to put her put in the daycare group on the second day because she's young and energetic. When we picked her up, she was very happy to see us, and VERY tired. She was tired for days. It was GREAT. You could tell she had been well taken care of. I dropped her off this morning for daycare and she happily went in. I called to check on her like a crazy pet owner, and they happily checked on her for me and let me know she was doing well. Anthony is the best. We have been taking our weimy here for about 3.5 years for doggy daycare and occasional boarding and he is always such a happy boy. He literally jumps out of the car and runs inside as fast as he can. All the staff know him and love him. The only complaint I would have is about feeding when he gets boarded. We always send his grain free Salmon meal with him in perfect portion for his stay length and we always get food back. So either he isn't being fed twice a day or they aren't feeding him his food. Please feed the dogs the food they are sent with, for some it can result in large vet bills. Other than that I cannot say a single bad word. Again, Anthony should run the place, he is the best! read more

Super inconvenienced by their lack of communication. Previously took my dog to 24 hour dog daycare, due to moving attempted to take him here. Called ahead of time to discuss drop off and boarding for next month- all set bring him in Wednesday for daycare. Came in and suddenly am told they won't accept him until 8am... which is when I have to be at work for a 12 hour shift so obviously not waiting. VERY disappointed by this. They should really retrain individuals who work in the office and answer phones for clarification - or figure out how to literally copy a piece of paper to show vaccines. Such a friendly and knowledgeable staff! I went to eval my doggo for the two week camp and they were nothing but helpful and patient. They answered all of my texts from their personal numbers. We ended up choosing a different training facility only because of the ability to make payments rather than dropping 2k (minus the down payment) at once. If I had unlimited monies, I'd give them my business for sure! Their service dog program is AMAZING, but I can't afford that either. Service dogs aren't cheap, I know, but finding somewhere with payment options was very helpful for my situation. Their grooming is GREAT. Highly recommend. Took Bronson there a couple months ago and they are SO HONEST that it blows my mind. I had never had him groomed, nor any of my pets groomed for that matter, so I had no idea what I was doing. Asked them to do all the standard stuff and his nails because I figured that's what I needed to do, but when I picked him up, the guy at the front went over all of the things that they did with him and told me that his nails were totally fine. He said they buffed Bronson's nails but didn't charge because it didn't need to be trimmed or anything. I wouldn't have known the difference...they could've charged me for like nose cleaning and I wouldn't have known if it was a real thing or not. I gave them my homemade treats to give to B since he's super sensitive, and I'm happy that they checked if it was ok to have other treats. I appreciate the honesty and their great customer service. I will be going back for dog sitting, grooming, or anything of the sort when I need it. read more

This place has changed our home life for the better! I rescued a 8 week old pit bull a year ago and made a commitment that I would never ever give up a pet. Honey, our dog, is the sweetest and most loving dog I've ever met but she's a little crazy and hyper and doesn't understand social cues from other dogs. By 7 months old She was unmanageable when I would come home from work and I just didn't know what to do. This dog made me cry all the time... until Julie trained her. Now she is just as sweet and loving and hyper but she is the best listener ever! She stayed for four weeks which was so hard not to see her for that long but it was the best decision I ever made! We dropped our boys off for the weekend this past weekend. We have a German shepherd and a pit mix! We chose the basic pack, because they were only going to be there for three nights. We added on a nail trim for both dogs. We ended up coming back a night early. The staff was very friendly and made sure they were ready early. We got refunded for the time we didn't use. When we got home I noticed my boys smelled like urine, pretty strongly. I wrestled with whether I'd call or not and eventually decided to call and ask why. I expected them to smell like dogs, but not like pee. When I called in the morning and expressed my concerns, Anthony, one of the managers helped me. He was SO accommodating and apologetic. He told me even with the basic packs, which do not include baths, if they notice a smell they bath them for free anyways. So, he was concerned as to why my dogs smelled so bad. He also reassured me they strive to stay very clean. That was one of the concerns I brought up. My boys are crate trained and don't dedicate where they sleep unless they're neglected. It made me question him on whether or not they walked them properly, or cleaned them in a timely manner if there was an accident. He reassured me this is NOT how they run their business and told me to bring them both in for free baths. When I dropped them off he immediately said he could smell them. He told me to enjoy my day and let them take care of them. My husband went to pick them up and said he was so nice upon pick up (Anthony). I got home from work and my boys smelled the best they ever have from a grooming! Really happy they took the time to make sure my boys were taken care of and to make sure I was satisfied. It was my first time boarding so the whole ordeal concerned me and made me question whether I'd do it again. The staff listened to my needs and sent me regular reports along with pictures and videos of how my "boy" Bodie was progressing. It was tough to be away from him that long but the results were well worth the investment and time apart. Julie was our trainer and she was amazing! I highly recommend her for your dog's training needs. Bodie made a forever friend in her :) The facility is always clean and well organized with well designed outdoor training areas for the dogs. I met the owner of Oceanside Pet Hotel (Manuel Villanueva) in 1996 when I took my Golden Retriever puppy to him for one-on-one basic obedience training. Their training program was excellent; within a few sessions and with lots of practice on our own, we were able to join the older dogs for intermediate/advance group obedience training. I was taught easy to follow, common sense methods for training my pup. Later, we joined the San Diego County Search and Rescue Team; we volunteered with the SAR team on the K9 unit. My dog was trained to work off leash and use her nose to locate any human within a given search area. Manuel's skills and knowledge as a dog trainer were key to our success. Fast forward almost 20 years later and I work as a police K9 handler. My German Shepherd partner is a dual purpose dog trained in patrol/protection as well as tracking and explosives detection. Manuel recently evaluated my dog and gave me several tips for improving the performance of my current partner and future K9s I'll work with. I no longer live in San Diego County, but do visit on occasion and would gladly utilize Oceanside Pet Hotel and Fon-Jon Pet Care Center in San Diego (same ownership) as I completely trust them with my dog and my police department's dog as the K9 is their property until she retires when I'll adopt her. Since thousands of dollars and time are invested in my police K9 partner, I have to be extra careful about who I leave her with for care when I have to board her. Fon-Jon and Oceanside Pet Hotel both have provided great service and excellent, professional training for decades. read more

I absolutely love bringing my pups here!! The hours for daycare to drop off and pick up are by far better than any other daycares and they are also cheaper. Sydnee takes such great care of my pups and gives me updates on how they are doing if I ask. Anytime they need a bath or nail trim, I can just call and have it done while I'm at work. My oldest pup is usually shy and scared of people, but as soon as we pull in she goes crazy and has to say Hi to everyone. She already knows the drill on where to go and basically drags the employees to the play yard. It makes me so happy that my pups are excited to go to daycare! I highly recommend Oceanside Pet Hotel. They take such great care of all of my animals. I especially love how worn out she is when I pick her up. I can tell she was running around and playing all day because she would sleep through the night and not want to wake up in the morning. Today was the first day my 14 week pup went to daycare. We thought we got a french bulldog puppy but it turned out to be a 100 pound mastiff. We were very overwhelmed by this huge strong beast. But we love him. Perry our trainer worked wonders with Winston. When we brought him to Perry he would not go to the vet or dog daycare anywhere. Perry taught him to go to the vet and now he loves Pacific Pet Resort. Someone would have to hold his leash while I was preparing dinner or he would put his nose on the stove. Last week he stayed in his "place" voluntarily while I prepared hamburgers. He patiently waited for the family to eat dinner first and then he got his burger as a reward for his patience. Perry also gave us techniques to reduce barking both at home and in the car. Winston is a much calmer dog now and proud of his accomplishments. We are still taking lessons but every week he gets easier to manage. I've been bringing my Belgian Malinois since he was 3 months old and has known the staff since. He comes home with little to no energy most times and other times, needs assistance getting out of our car. I was skeptic and scared at first to allow my pup to be cared by people he and I didn't know. He grew familiar and loves it there now that he has been going there often. Iroh is now one and still comes home tired just like when he was 3 months old. Safe to say that, this daycare updates the pet parents of any changes I.e. vomiting, limping, etc.basically anything out of the norm. So far, Iroh loves it and comes home happy! read more

I am frustrated writing this review because I thought I loved taking my dog here. She always seems happy to go and fine when we pick her up and they do the BEST grooming job ever! Where this review takes a turn for the worse is for the last time we boarded there. A shorter stay than usual for our pup, but she just started some medication and I was nervous about boarding her when she needed medication. They assured me administering meds was no problem and made me feel comfortable about boarding her. Unfortunately, when I picked her up, the pill bottle had a lot more pills in it than what should have been left. They clearly did not give her the required meds and I now do not feel comfortable taking her there ever again! read more

This place is awful!!! We boarded our pooch there last December and when we went to pick him up he had Kennel Cough! They brought him out to us and he was hacking away and NOT ONE employee was like "hey by the way your dog is sick." I asked if he'd had this cough for a while and they said that someone noticed it "a day or two ago" which really means 3 or 4 days ago. I wanted to given them the benefit of the doubt because it had been raining it had been cold. But in february we boarded him again and once again he was sick. And again NO ONE thought it was a good idea to share this information. I would NEVER bring my boy here again!!! read more

We have gotten 3 of our dogs trained here & because of their amazing customer service & connections with our dogs we board our dogs here whenever we go out of town as well. Every single time we come in to the front office, we are greeted with smiles & with a genuine "how have you been?" Anthony & Julie are our personal favorites. They always make sure our dog is happy & well accommodated. We rescued a pit bull that was a bait dog in a fighting organization, she was very hard to handle at first & we are extreme helicopter parents with her, PPR is the only place we have ever felt comfortable leaving her at & trusting that they know exactly how to handle her. Great place, i had my dog trained here in january, i was given a free dog day care to see how my dog would react after training but they never told me how he reacted and if ot would be better to keep bringing him over. Other than that i had the most wonderful experience here with my dachshund of 1 yr. Im not good with dogs so when my mom got me one i freaked out and didnt know what to do with him. Now we are both happily walking almost everyday without him barking at other dogs or trying to run away from me. Definitely would recommend! read more
