I had two root canals done here -- one by Dr. Maroon and the other by her associate. I experienced pain for months after both procedures. Dr. Maroon referred me to a specialist, but they didn't accept my insurance, so I went to an endodontist who did. He told me that both root canals had not been done correctly. As a result, I had to have a retreatment and an apicoectomy on one of them. Dr. Maroon refunded me for the original root canal and crown, but I had to pay $2,300 out-of-pocket for the additional procedures. read more

My intention was to receive a general cleaning & dental check-up limited to what is covered by my dental insurance plan. However, during my visit, a consultant spoke with me and presented a document to sign, which I did without fully understanding its contents due to the language barrier. Unfortunately, I did not realize that I had agreed to a procedure costing over $6,000. I was immediately charged half of that amount on the same day. I believe this was a mistake on my part for signing without adequate comprehension, but I also feel that the situation was not handled with proper sensitivity or transparency. For new patients, the dentist should prioritize performing only a basic cleaning & examination unless further treatment is clearly explained and consented to. My experience with Pacific Dental Grp. left me feeling taken advantage of. I believe a charge of $6,000 is excessive & inappropriate. I showed up today and I have an HMO dental coverage and I get cleanings covered and x-rays covered and deep cleaning covered as well. All they did was just polish me and do x-rays and say I was done. They were trying to charge me for $75 then I said that was ridiculous so I left. Then I called my insurance company and they said at the most they should ever charge you for a co-pay for deep cleaning is $30 so now reading all these reviews. I definitely understand why they have bad reviews. Also, for someone who is terrified of the dentist, they definitely don't care about that or the quality of care. I went to Pacific dental. I had two teeth I went to Pacific dental. I had two teeth missing at the bottom. I ended up with a bridge and they shave down all of my teeth for the bridge. missing at the bottom. I ended up with a bridge and they shave down my teeth and covered six of them with the bridge when I should've just gotten a partial at the bottom with two teeth. However, so they made my bottom teeth, very uncomfortable with the bridge is so stiff you can't taste can't chew so I went back and she tried to it out, but you can't even out of bridge. She took the drill and tried to drill the teeth and now it left it feel like sandpaper and is very very uncomfortable. I asked him if they could take the bridge out and they would not take it out, so now I'm stuck with this bridge and it feels like something stuffed in your teeth to where you can really eat so I would not ever ever recommend anyone to Pacific dental if they make a mistake they're not going to fix it. They're maroon doesn't really address anything that's really wrong with her dentist office. She is the owner, I had such a bad experience there. I complain to my insurance company. She ended up refunding me some money, but I'm still stuck with this problem. I would not recommend anyone go to Pacific dental, but if you want to go and take that wrist if something goes wrong, they will not fix it, they do not want to speak the truth and that's all I was doing is speaking the truth and they didn't resolve anything refunding the money didn't resolve this bridge issue and now I'm still trying to find a doctor to remove the bridge but they ruined my teeth. I have had plenty of experiences with dental care and treatment from a few dental offices as well as working in the medical field and I have to say my experience with Pacific Dental has been by far the BEST. The staff are always so welcoming from the moment you walk into the office to checking out. I had such a great experience with my care and treatment. I had a root canal in the past that did not go so well with another dental office/dentist that left me a bit worried. So when I found out I needed another root canal on another tooth I became really stressed because of the last experience. But I had nothing to worry about because this experience was by far a very POSITIVE one. I was experiencing a lot of pain with my tooth. Dr. Maroon took the time to be very clear and explain the options I had. My tooth ended up being cracked which was why I had so much pain. The last resort was an extraction in which I ended up needing due to how deep the crack was. Dr. Maroon tried everything to save the tooth but because of how the crack was it had to be extracted. The dentist office completely refunded my money for the root canal, without questions because the tooth could not be saved. I had some difficulties getting numb which was another worry of mine as well as the experiences I had in the past with other dentists. No not here, the dentist walked me thru each step and ensured that I had nothing to worry about. It went so well because of the care and effort that was taken to making sure I was pain free and most of all comfortable. Dr. Maroon took the time to call to see how I was doing . You don't find that now a days in dental offices. To be honest, most are out to just make money but I have had nothing but the BEST experience with Pacific Dental. There is literally nothing to critique here as this would be the only place I would go too, to get my dental care. My daughter, husband and sister in law also go to Pacific Dental and they also have had nothing but positive experiences. I got an infection on my wisdom tooth so I went in to get it extracted. Long story short as soon as the anesthetic wore off I was in severe pain. The next day I was in so much pain I knew something was wrong but decided to wait a bit longer to see if maybe I was exaggerating... Wrong! So so wrong! I called to make an appointment a couple days later since the pain just got worse. It was so bad I could not open my mouth to talk, eat and barely drink anything. Worst pain I have ever felt in my mouth ever. I was in tears that whole first week since the removal. When I went in to get checked again she told me it looked like sores and it was probably a virus. I had a feeling she was wrong so I made an appointment with my old dentist and got checked the next day. Well lo and behold my old dentist finds I have perforations in my mouth. Two of the worst were on my cheek (next to where the wisdom tooth was) and on the inner gum part of where the wisdom tooth was. The perforation was so bad he said I had exposed BONE. He said it was probably from the tools she used for the removal. Long story short, it took 4-5 weeks for it to totally heal. The severe pain lasted 1.5 weeks and then still some pain past the second week (so much crying!). The part that angers me the most is that she lied to me when I asked to get check the second time and she told me it was a virus. I cannot believe she didn't realize she had caused the perforations. I mean they were literally right there where the tooth was! I don't remember her name but she was not the main dentist. $450 for a botched tooth removal. I am not one to write negative reviews and that is why it took me months to sum up the courage to write this. I am so not confrontational. But if this will help someone make an informed decision then I am here to share what happened to me. Anyway if you are still planning on going there please be careful! And never be afraid to get a second opinion when it comes to your health! read more

I have full medical insurance through work and ended up paying $542 out-of-pocket for "cavities" that they could not point out all-of-them to me on the x-rays and I was suckered by the cute girls that worked here. In my previous 3 years before coming to San Diego, I had never had a cavity. Scam? Definitely. Perhaps I agreed too fast when the one girl said $110 for my 2 cavities... then the doctor came back and said I had 11 cavities and it would cost $542... Probably did it because I told them that I was switching employers and my dental insurance was going to end soon so they appealed to my fear at the time. Just imagine how much they made from my insurance company if my out-of-pocket was $542... Oh well, first time I've been scammed but also the last time. Update: OMG my friend just saw Dr. Manijeh Hosseini-Maroon and the same thing happened to him! We were talking at lunch and he told me about a weird dental experience and we compared notes and they wanted $600 out of pocket from him too when he usually never gets cavities and the girl mumbles while she explains where the cavities are just like when I went. read more

What a scam. We went because of a coupon for cleaning and x rays. They rushed us thru the process and told me I had 4 cavities for $610 and my husband lots of work for a total of $8282.00. We sat on this for 4 months and decided to go to our normal dentist for cleaning and x rays. We didn't tell our dentist about what happened. Well, I don't have any cavities and my husband only needed two procedures instead of the whole page of work Pacific Dental said that he needed. Total from our dentist for his work is $2410. First time in the dental office they were really polite but second time around they sold you pretty much everything you don't need and waiting for you to get in the chair and told you that your insurance doesn't cover certain things when in fact they do, I was very disappointed on how they treated me and did not let me know what they were doing before they tried to charge me. They did this to my son when he went in as well, very unacceptable and they they are taking people for granted for their money. I do not recommend going to this Dental Group whatsoever, trust me they may be great the first time but afterwords they will provide services that you do not need and charge you for them. read more

I have been coming to see Dr. Manijeh Hosseini-Maroon since I was 20 years old. She is amazing. I refer people to her and her husband John P. Maroon when I hear that someone is looking for a new dentist. Nancy and Alma both work in the front office and are both equally great as well. My whole family comes here for all of their dental needs and when I call for anything I get a Mayberry kind of feel. You know take you back in time when people actually cared about you as a person and not just as business. I am asked about my parents and/ or friends and I know that they are asking not out of politeness but because they genuinely care. The Chula Vista office is very clean and there are TVs in the waiting area and in front of the dental chairs. Before any procedure is performed someone will go over the cost and what your insurance will and will not cover. I never have to worry about leaving and getting a 'surprise' charge. Dr. Maroon is very gentle and efficient and there is usually not a wait. If I need to see her same day Nancy and Alma do their best to work me in. There was a brief time that I was unemployed and didn't have insurance and Dr. Maroon heard from one of my parents that I was having tooth pain. She scheduled a visit for me to find out what the problem was and waived the fee. I just had to pay her when I started working and she gave me a really good discount. I had a tooth cleaning today and can say that I love going to the dentist. I leave with lots of goodies and feel like I just hung out with some old friends catching up. They do have a new office off of Balboa but I have not yet tried that one yet. Also she is great with children. read more

I now have gone to this dental office for 18 years! They are still serving up 100% of FABULOUS each and every time I go. I read a few of the negative comments here and immediately wondered if there was some kind of displaced disappointment in themselves and their dental hygiene, instead of throwing shade on the dental office and staff? Dr. Maroon and her staff are committed to helping (it is not all up to the dentist - one must take care of her/his own mouth, too) out in every way possible. Of course I do not like having to spend $800 or so on crowns, but then, this is part of dentistry. I get my bleaching trays and syringes here, I have had Invisalign, and my regular cleaning every six months. The front desk, which consists of Alma, Myrna, and Yalisha (sp?) are professional and kind. They go above and beyond ANY other dental office I know. I hear about a lot of dentist in my profession and none are as exemplary as Dr. Maroon and her staff. If you are fortunate enough to have Cynthia over see your teeth when Dr. Maroon is out, you will feel as if you hit the jack pot! No kidding. Whenever you read something that is so negative, slanderous, and angry, perhaps think about the situation and choose to give something your own opinion.
