The guy working there helped unload our trunk which we apreciated-we always seem to have old unworking electronic stuff and this is the place to take it so doesn't end up in the trash.

I've been accumulating worn out computers, printers, stereo equipment and stuff for years. If the item was functional, I would list it on Craigslist for free, just to keep it out of the landfill and to give someone else the chance to get some use out of it. But, if it's a hunk of junk, there's no point in listing it and getting someone's hopes up for a nice freebie. This stuff was junk. We found this place with a quick Google search. Open Tuesday 1-5pm and Saturday 8am-1pm, I thought they would be less busy on a Tuesday afternoon. There were people dropping off when we arrived and more showing up as we left. I violated rule #1 right away. You're supposed to stay in your car. My pile of junk was in the trunk, so I got out to open the trunk since my car has a key lock for the trunk lid. Thankfully, the fellow who came out let this violation slide. He actually was very friendly and we got along well. But, there was another problem. Some of my electronics weren't acceptable. He told me that he couldn't take my old garage stereo, complete with an 8-track tape player. I asked him why and he just shrugged his shoulders. But, if I moved that receiver, he would take the junk that was under it. He also took my old printer, but left the broken CD changer. So, I guess I have a couple of hunk of junk headed for the landfill.

I have called the company multiple times asking if we could be out of contract and done with their service so we can move onto a different more reasonable priced disposal company their response is we have to pay six months in advance to cancel, and that their contract automatically renews every three years. I do not recommend signing a contract with this company. There are plenty of better options.

Our `ohana's Maui Disposal experience started last year, when we discovered our 3 year old son had the huuuuugest love for garbage trucks. Below is an email I had written to the owner of Maui Disposal, please give it a read, its a wonderful feel good email: "Dear Mr. Clyde Kaneshiro, I just wanted to express my gratitude towards the kindness of one of your workers over at Maui Disposal. Raymond (we call him Uncle Happy) picks up the dumpster bins at Kaahumanu Church. My 3-year old son, Mauloa, absolutely LOVES garbage trucks and is always standing outside our house waiting for our Maui County rubbish pick ups on Tuesday and Friday, our neighbors County pick up on Mondays, and the churches Maui Disposal pick up on Thursdays. As soon as we see Raymond driving up Main Street in Wailuku, we can already see his big smile and see him waving at Mau. As a mother, it just melts my heart to see wonderful people who my son idolizes show such delightful feedback to these keiki. Mau always gets so excited and will talk about Uncle Happy all day. On Christmas Eve, I heard the Maui Disposal truck picking up the rubbish while I got ready for work. My son had already left for the day with my father in law so I was disappointed that he wasn't going to get to see Uncle Happy that day. I left the house and have to walk past the church to get to work and got to see Uncle Happy in the parking lot. I told him good morning and that my son would be so bummed that he missed him! Uncle Happy expressed his disappointment as well and said, "Oh no, where is he today!?" I told him my father in law is babysitting since my normal care giver is on vacation. Uncle Happy reached for something next to him and handed me a HUGE wrapped present with 3 little trucks AND a Maui Disposal dumpster bin attached to it! "We have a present for him! Can you please give it to him?" How thoughtful is that!? He probably doesn't know how much he just MADE Mau's Christmas!! I was just so overwhelmed at this unbelievably kind gesture. Uncle Happy (I learned that morning that his real name is Raymond!) already goes above and beyond by smiling and waving to Mau. We are already so grateful that he always has a BIG smile (which is how he got the name Uncle Happy!) when he says HI to Mau and we just appreciate so much how much it makes Mau's day. Mau was very excited to open his gift from Uncle Raymond and the Maui Disposal `Ohana on Christmas morning. His reaction was PRICELESS. I have never seen my son jump up and down in excitement as much as he did when he opened his gift and saw a new garbage truck! He has so many garbage trucks but not this one! It looked just like the Maui Disposal Truck he loves to see on Thursdays. I gotta say, Uncle Happy and the Maui Disposal team trumped Santa big time this Christmas! Thank you VERY much to Raymond. Thank you for being such a wonderful person, for keeping the spirit of Christmas alive, and for being a great reflection on Maui Disposal. We wish all of you the very best in the new year! May 2016 be filled with prosperity and success for the Maui Disposal `Ohana and Honolulu Disposal `Ohana. Happy Holidays!" Well fast forward to now, August 2016 and we love Uncle Raymond Lee even more. He has become a family friend and still makes time for my son every Thursday. AND now that my son Mauloa has started preschool, he even gets to see Uncle Raymond on Mondays at his school garbage day pickup!!! And Uncle Raymond makes Mau feel so happy when he yells out "HI MAULOA!!!" in front of all the kids. Mau's classmates all love Mondays too because of the interaction Uncle Happy has with them all. He beeps his horn and waves to them and it makes their day! Uncle Raymond's partners are all awesome, hardworking guys too! They are all friendly and always put a smile on Mau's face. Uncle Api, Uncle Kai, Uncle Alex, Mau knows all their names! Besides being such great guys, they bust their okole doing their job and Mau loves to watch them jump out of the truck and pull out the dumpster bins for Uncle Happy to dump into the rubbish truck. He is always amazed how easy Uncle Happy makes it look and wants to do both jobs when he gets older so you guys better keep some positions open for Mau! ;) OH and of course did I mention Holoholo Ka`a!?!?! Our FAVORITE event of the year! And to support Punana Leo O Maui, so awesome! The Maui Disposal line is always the longesssssttttttttttt one so we always make sure to hit you guys first! The guys you have working that event are so great with the keiki! Thank you again Maui Disposal for all you do for our beautiful island. Thank you for all your hard work, for keeping our island clean, and for bringing smiles to everyones faces. You guys are truly the best!!!!!

My childhood home was the location of my personal mission, season one, episode one. I figured it'd be easier to rent one of those huge dumpsters rather than hauling small loads to the dump ourselves. Jumped on Yelp, researched and made a decision to go with Waste Pro Hawaii. EXPERIENCE: The website wasn't too informative so I called in to a friendly, professional gal. She explained the fees and process accordingly. They offer roll offs in 15, 20 and 30 yard sizes (covered or uncovered), along with tipplers and dumpsters in varying sizes. You're allowed to keep the bin for as long as you like which was the selling point for me and why I chose them over Maui Disposal. While the haul-away fee for Maui Disposal was about $100 less, they force you to haul away the bin every 14 days or pay a fee. Forget that! We decided on an uncovered 30-yard roll off which ended up being the perfect size in the end. I called in to order it and they were able to deliver on the same day which was perfect as I had to personally hand over a down payment ($450 and change for the dumpster, deliver fee and tax) to the truck driver. The roll was huge and thought no way we'd fill it up but we did. It's shaped like a "U" with a huge swinging door on one end. I was concerned that there were no holes on the bottom for water drainage but even with the significant amount of rain we had it never ponded. We got rid of several cabinets, mattresses, bed frames, entertainment centers, junk and clutter! After about a month we called for the haul away in which they came the next day. A final bill was sent a few days later after our load was weighed. Here's the breakdown of our charges: $370.00 for the 30-yard roll off $62.50 delivery charge $114/ton Maui County landfill fee ($169.86 for 1.49 tons of our waste) $627.45 grand total OVERALL: Well worth the money. Why burden yourself with renting a U-Haul, making multiple trips to the dump with sweat equity and paying by the mileage?
