Recently took my 8 year old son for a haircut because he was overdue. We walked in and he got Silvia. Since I'm clueless to mens cuts I told her to go short on the sides. She asked me if I wanted a cut close to the skin and I said sure. I was very happy with the results of the skin fade she did. It was worth the extra cost. My 10 year old and I have been looking for a good barber that can do a low/mid fade and style his thick hair. We walked in and Zion worked on his hair, asked me what I was looking for then talked to my 10 year old and made him comfortable and asked what style he is going for. I got the worst haircut I think I've ever received at this place. There were three barbers, I can't speak on the other two but the one who cut my hair was an older women with black hair, wore glasses and sat at the far end. Not only did she use a zero when I told her a one on the sides, she also didn't fade my hair well in the slightest, PICKED EAR WAX OUT OF HER EAR and grabbed my head, she was extremely rough with my head and didnt blend my taper at all. If you want a good hair cut DO NOT go here. UPDATE: not only was this a horrible haircut as you can see from the photos but I also received a msg from the woman who cut my hair detailing excuses as to why my haircut was so horrible lol. I got my hair cut from Brook and she absolutely knows what she's doing. Her fades are top notch, she been cutting hair for ten years and takes her time to make sure every cut is good cause that's her name on that cut. Please know I am not saying this lightly. She is the third person to cut my hair in 22 years. I've had two other barbers in that time. I had to get my hair cut from someone new because my barber broke his leg and has been outta the game for about three months. I could not wait anymore and by the grace of the haircut/fade Gods I got Brook. She was awesome. If I ever need a backup again or my barber doesn't cut hair again I'll go to Brook for sure. read more

I'm usually at one end of the spectrum as far as my hair is concerned. On one end we've got the "no haircut at all, for months/years at a time", which I'm recently coming off of. The other would be the "number 1 guard short, needs maintenance almost weekly", which I can easily do at home. Well, I'm not feeling either of those looks recently, and I don't trust my own (or my wife's) skills enough to attempt a fade. Manhood barber shop opened recently not far from my home, next to the expanding (yet again!) Gyro House Mediterranean Grill. On a whim, I decided to stop in there a month or so ago and check it out. Very clean, comfortable shop with all new chairs, nice big TVs on the wall, etc. John cut my hair that day, and he was about the most affable barber I've ever visited. He did an *outstanding*, meticulous job on my hair. I was fairly blown away. It's obvious he's a perfectionist, and it shows. I was entirely pleased. They have all the typical, traditional barber shop offerings, including hot shave, trim, buzz; everything you'd expect. I think the name of the place is a bit goofy, but that's splitting hairs (HAH, see what I did there?!). As long as I keep the fade up, I will not hesitate to visit Manhood time and again. Pretty slick haircut I got here! They're still in their grand opening but I'm definitely coming back. I decided to randomly try them out since the normal place I go to is closed on the weekends. I was a bit nervous with this being a new place for me but I don't regret one bit of it. The barber gave me exactly what I wanted. My old barber got too popular and had a hard time getting in. Decided to try this place because it is close to my home. I've been to 7 or 8 places in the past year. All ranging from really bad to acceptable. None of which did they listen to what I wanted or even tried to ask. I Walked in and it is first come first serve. I had to wait about an hour and a half on a Saturday afternoon. Normally I wouldn't wait that long but I had a quiet afternoon. Only 1 barber was working. She apologized for the wait many times and said someone called in. The shop offers soda and beer while you wait. Very unpretentious unlike some of the other"men's shoppes" and half the price. I'm glad I waited. DIANE cut my hair and did my beard trim. She spent about 5 minutes asking about what I wanted and listened carefully. She didn't rush the job and gave me a meticulous cut! I just returned for my next cut and am just as impressed as last time. Hurray! I've finally found a great barber!!! There was another barber there today as well. I'm no prude but this guy (Michael?) needs a lesson in respect. When I told him I was from another state he instantly started posturing and puffing his chest out about how good of a barber he was and how much money he made with this and that and the other. I don't really care. I just wanted a haircut. It would be one thing if he stopped at some point, but this dude was down right incessant about his ability to do fades and generally flaunting about 'how good he was'. When not doing that, he was incredibly concerned with letting me know that he was a 'baller'. See above about my care in the matter. Been coming to this place for years, but don't think I'll be back. They don't do appointments, walk-ins only, and the barbers don't have consistent schedules so you never know who you're going to get. I called multiple times to make sure my barber was in so I could get my usual haircut ahead of a wedding. Each time they said they would get back to me when he was in, but they never did. I finally showed up and had someone else cut it, described what I wanted, and even showed a picture of me with the haircut so it would look the same. She didn't listen to me, messed up my haircut and then combed it over to the side, even though I wear it forward. Manny gives a good haircut, but since it's impossible to know when he'll be there, they don't do scheduling, and never get back to you, there isn't any way guarantee a haircut with him. I've never gone to a place where it's so hard to get your hair cut by the same person. Hoping to find a better barber in the area and won't be coming back. read more

I went here for the first time today for a haircut. I haven't had a haircut in, well, several months, and suffice it to say my hair and beard were pretty wild. I have attached before and after photos, but the "before" photo was taken quite a while before I went there so my hair was notably longer and wilder. Brooke put me in her chair and got to work cutting my hair and trimming my beard. I have to say that she put more time and effort into making sure it was just right than anyone ever has in my life. Today, after a morning visit to the coffee shop, I stopped in to get my hair cut. I was greeted by a wonderful lady named Brook who was cutting another gentlemen's hair. After three minutes or so, my haircut was under way. Brook did an amazing job. Every step of the way she was making sure my hair was exactly the way I wanted it. The best part was because my hair isn't the easiest to work with, she told me mid way through we were going to adjust from the original cut we talked about, and it turned out much better than I imagined it could be. I am 100% going back to see Brook. If you want a great conversationalist who knows her craft, I highly recommend you give this place a go. read more

Just moved to the area and found the barbershop through Yelp. Diane cut my hair. She was a bit rough, but she did a great cut and made great suggestions for the cut. Thank you, Diane! I am only giving a 4 out of 5 because the Yelp site says they accept card payments, but google says they are CASH ONLY (found out after the fact) and they let you know they only accept cash...after your haircut. Please fix this discrepancy. Fortunately, there is an ATM in the shop where you can withdraw cash...it's just a minor inconvenience. Bring cash! read more

The shop is nice but I got a really bad cut at this place. Asked for a 1-fade with a trim on top, and a bald taper on the sideburns and neck, and it was a disaster. The barber took the bald taper all around my ears as opposed to just on my sideburns - which is a technical mistake - but then to boot he didn't fade it up well at all. Requested that he blend it better before I got out of the chair, and he proceeded to just make the "bald" part of the taper even balder (he took out an electric beard trimmer to do this) - instead of blending it up into the rest of my hair. The blend ended up looking worse / the contrast more stark. The rest of the cut was equally gnarly. The number of different clippers he used, the amount he alternated between them in the same spot, his comb use, etc. - it felt like he didn't know how to do the cut. Before he shaved my neck with a straight edge, I asked him if the blade was new. I normally don't ask this, but given how bad the haircut was and how he delivered it, I wanted to check. He said, "Oh yes, it's clean," and then about a minute later, after putting the shaving cream on me, he said, "If it's concerning to you, I'll put a new one on." That implies to me the initial blade wasn't new, and was being re-used. I do not work for the health department, but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to put a new blade on each time. It's what I want, anyway, for health and safety reasons. Finally, when he put the shaving cream on my neck and around my sideburns prior to the straight-edge shave, he used a brush (like a badger-hair brush, the kind you use to apply shaving cream to your face with when you give yourself a wet shave), dipped in a bowl that held the shaving cream. This would be fine if it were just me, but if he is using that brush on multiple people throughout the day (which it appears he is), that can't be up to sanitary requirements. Every barber I've ever been to has used his fingers to put the shaving cream on my neck. Overall, really bad cut and the barber didn't seem to know what he was doing. He was a nice guy and the shop itself was clean, however. read more

Today could have ended with a botched haircut. I had just received a haircut from a notable salon in The Pearl that did not live up to my expectations. I had recalled seeing an advertisement in The Clipper for a new barber shop near my house. The phrase on the advertisement "We fix stupid cuts" came to mind. "What the hell, how much worse could my hair get." 30min later, I'm sitting in the seat of a master. From the moment the neck tissue and barber cape were placed on me, I knew I was in good hands. John gave me one of the most meticulous and thorough "repair" cuts I've ever received. I would argue that my cut with John took longer than my full haircut in The Pearl. Superb attention to detail, inviting/clean atmosphere, and classic barber shop experience. Highly recommend this barber shop. read more

Had my hair cut by a guy who looks like Robert Knepper and breath that smells of cigarettes. He displayed no self-confidence and implicitly limited his skill level to the capability of the clippers, both huge turn offs. Left with an asymmetric haircut that I know will have to be touched up elsewhere in two weeks. I've seen the owner offer other Yelpers a redo. I've come in a couple of times now and there is no consistency in the quality of the cuts. I've had some really good cuts from some of the guys but they don't seem to last in staying. Every time I come in, someone has quit. I've heard complaints about management but disregard it as disgruntled employees but one wonders... This last time I walked out with a uneven fade and hairs longer then another. Side burns uneven. Straight razor burn all over. Not to mention the dudes machine kept acting up. I was sure I was going to walk out with bald spots. Lucky I did not but the overall I think he was new, took 2hrs to cut... It's a great concept and I like it and want to love it but no consistency in the quality of the cut.
